Petrol over £1.50 per litre That’s nearly £7 a gallon in old money.
Wonder if Moggy is keen to return to that imperial unit?

Got my sums wrong on the previous page. Percentages threw me off: our costs have doubled, so a 100% increase. Just as well my poxy shares in a green energy tracker have spiked thanks to recent events…

Diesel jumped up back in about October last year I think so I've adjusted to paying around £1.50.
Would certainly prefer to be paying under £1.20 like a year ago.

The issue with Greece is nothing works, even simple things like regular running water in the tourist resorts and islands, power cuts etc. Then there is the corruption, bureaucracy with everything taking an age and the general acceptance that if you are an outsider with a bit of cash then you are seen as fair game. On top of that there are expats everywhere and it’s hard to not be lumped in with them.
My wife is Greek and bizarrely this seemed to make dealing with stuff out there harder rather than easier. We built a house out there which was a disaster with illegalities that turned out to be crooked lawyers, civil engineer the whole works - ended up dragged through the courts with a prison sentence now hanging over our rogue builder rather than me as I was found innocent. Even though, we won’t get compensation and the local attitude is to shrug and not care. Best off out of it now, but the money it cost us would have bought a nice house outright back here in the uk.

We just got our estimates through - double, basically. We can afford it but fucking hell, £170 a month for gas and electric. Ridiculous.

So I spent all month trying to keep a lid on costs and the bill was still nearly £200 a month. With the price cap rises, this month's usage will see it go up by another £100. Motherfuckers.

Was your email address given out in a mass mail? I’d just checked that in the site posted and it came back all clear. I always leave a fontgeak tab open and go forwards and backwards refreshing on latest so maybe I messed up somehow. Dunno

I hadn't realised rail fares hadn't gone up yet. They always do in January. A boss at my company wants a large part of my team to have a big meet up once a month in a neutral location - which means people from the south and north convening in the midlands.
I cannot see that happening as she hopes.
How any firm can blindly keep calling for staff to come to the office, though. They'll learn quickly.

Sounds like one of those ideas that would be trialled and dropped as soon as the manager got hundreds of pounds in travel expenses to sign off and justify.

Yeah, no way I'd be doing that without putting it through expenses. If it takes more time than your regular commute I'd also be making a point of leaving home at the same time I usually do/leaving early.
What a load of bollocks!

Taking of expenses I put a £500 claim in for various travel etc and it was rejected as I have no receipt for the £4.80 I spent contactless on the tube
Seems the company policy is to make it as difficult as possible so you end up paying yourself

I'd be tempted in that situation to offer not to travel any more until it's paid.

I had a similar experience at a former employer and now always just buy a travel card so that I can easily get a receipt.

I've been lucky in the past and never had an expenses claim rejected. If I didn't get a receipt for whatever reason (contactless usually) I'd just open the transaction details on online banking and screenshot that.
I used to have to approve expenses for my team members before passing to payroll. One of them was for a meal while working late. Receipt was quite clearly a home delivery meal for two people ordered in his girlfriend's name. Was a bit on the cheeky side, but fuck it. If you're giving up your evening to work and upsetting your home life, I'm not about to be the one to deny that claim. Thankfully payroll didn't question it!

It's the same in Italy. My parents had a villa in Tuscany for years (before they swapped it for one in the south of France) and nothing ever worked. The power went off any time the weather threatened to be vaguely inclement, roads were dug up and left unfinished, so you just had to hope they came back etc. Local carabinieri were bent as fuck.
