Also, by switching to plant milk you're putting cows out of work. Fuck them and their farts.

Definitely not one of the middle class elites, though. When's your cleaner in? Oh trust me, it was talked about but fuck that. Only doing "communal areas". THE BATHROOM IS A COMMUNAL AREA YOU FUCKSTICK.

So diesel is the same price as petrol now. When's it going to become cheaper? Weeks, months?

No I use environmentally friendly petrol. I'm just one of those people who looks at prices at every single petrol station I drive past.
My colleague couldn't tell you what the prices are, he never checks, just goes to the same place every time and pays whatever it is.

I just get eye rolls from my wife for being an old man and commenting on petrol prices all the time. Important to know imo

I see economists are trotting out the old "well if wages rises, interest rates will have to" bollocks. The Bank still clinging to the idea that wage growth has fed inflation.
Why do people even allow this shite to be spouted?

And no-one, probably bankers aside, are getting inflation busting pay rises. Most are still well under. Think last I saw, private sector was at 6%?
Edit: I see new figures are out. 7.2%.

Finally have a smart meter after switching to Octopus so I can get that sweet SEG.
The engineer laughed when I told him the Eon guy refused to touch the gas as it was "in the wall cavity" of my stone 1890s house.

I had a look at what our monthlies would be if we move to a new fix at 6% when our rate runs out next summer... It was not good.

We ended up fixing for 7 years at 4.5%, we never thought we'd be doing that but we just didn't want to contemplate it being even higher in 2 years time. Just hoping that it kind of pays off.

Not looking like it... I will probably see what we can do to borrow less next time. I'm afraid £200 extra a month ain't going to do much. Just hoping for a good bonus round this year for my private sector wife, as although work is slower this year, it is still likely to be more than my annual salary.

[ Overpay. I'm lobbing money at mine. £200 extra a month. Keep going on martin lewis and see what you'd get for your predicted amount. Surely that is terrible advice? You would be better putting that money in a high interest account for the period you are locked at a lower rate and then paying the chunk off when you are no longer in a lock in period. If your mortgage rate is 2 percent and a savings account is paying close to 7 wouldn't it be better to do that?

If your mortgage rate is 2 percent and a savings account is paying close to 7 wouldn't it be better to do that? Actually funnily enough that is exactly what I have been doing, I have a couple of regular saving accounts that I am maxxing out. I've calculated that our mortgage would go from 20% to 33% of income. I feel like that 20% is relatively lower than it might be for a lot of people out there, so are a bit more protected. I feel like this is the issue that is actually going to kill off any remaining Tory election hopes. There ain't any cash left for any kind of mortgage support wheeze.

Without the impending inheritance from my mum's estate, I think we'd be in proper trouble. Should able to pay off a good chunk and bring LTV down to under 30% which should keep things manageable.

Best I've seen is 3% locked for a year.

Yeah my bank advertised me a 6.17% savings account when I logged in one day. Took me 30s to open the account.

1.43% to 6% is going to be painful.
No benefit to me but as long as the bank is OK, that's all that matters.

Grr. I can't open any new UK accounts as I'm not resident in the UK, and all my legacy ones are paying naff-all interest.
Domestic JP banks pay almost zero interest, but offer accounts denominated in other currencies like GBP/USD that are paying decent interest.
So I think I might have to bring most of my saving to Japan, only to put it in a GBP denominated account. Which is going to be a pain in the butt in terms of transfers, exchange rates, exchange fees, etc.. Either that or stick it into stocks.
Big hassle, but leaving it in accounts paying 0.5% is killing me.

Hmmmm, I should clarify; I'm trying to find banks that are also not investing or being awful to people or the environment. It's surprisingly difficult. TLDR - solar panels have put me on a high horse

I know. I'm genuinely trying to limit my impact on the planet. A small, insignificant gesture, I know but one I want to make.
It's why my next holiday I'm flying and then taking trains between countries, rather than more flights. I also recognise I'm comfortable enough to make these kinds of choices.
If anyone does know of a bank that isn't total cunts then please let me know.
