Ah. I see. No. He would always eat cheap and I'd spend more. He wanted to go out but he wasn't spending much because he did it with most people. So he'd order one drink and something light - slice of pizza, etc. I'd spend £10 to his £5, for example. So when I said "let's just split so it's easier" he stopped wanting to go out all the time.

I mean fair enough? That's not strange at all. See that Friends episode where they argue about splitting bills.

I’m not sure I’d go out with someone who was saying they wanted me to subsidise them 25-50% of their meal every time, no, especially if I’m being sensible and ordering what I can afford.

5 quid a pint here now for any half decent beer. Don't even have the "luxury" of a Spoons for a decent price anywhere near walking distance. It’s one of the reasons why it’s been actually fairly easy/I haven’t really had to try to give up drinking. I like beer fine but not enough to pay to have just one or two with a meal or just nip out for a jar after work. And I haven’t been in a Wetherspoon’s since 2016.

Civil service getting a £1,500 lump sum cost of living payment!!! Still non-consolidated and won't help going forward. Fuckers can stick it.

My mates are looking to get on the housing ladder, approaching 40.
2 weeks ago they had a deal of £650 a month on the table, for 30 years. Now that's £700 a month for 35 years.
Absolutely insane. I feel so bad for them. It's just ridiculous. How the BofE can justify upping the rates over and over. It'll cripple people.

A fixed rate for the lifetime of the mortgage?

No I think it's a standard temp fix.
£700 pcm on a 35 year £790 pcm on a 30 year
Assume 2-3 year fix.
They're both low earners, barely scratching £20k and trying to buy a 2 bed terrace.

Aye, surely they'll only be fixed for x years.
Although I'd they can even afford it they've got the gamble of only signing on for 2 years fixed and things being worse, or 5 years and things still being utterly fucked (which I can honestly see)

Was just the way it was written! 10 years is the longest I've seen.

Yeah it's quite brutal, really. Though I find it crazy they see £700 pcm between them as a stretch but then I'm earning about 3/4 more than they do.
They've also got dogs and such, which must hoover up money.

They're both low earners, barely scratching £20k and trying to buy a 2 bed terrace. They must have saved a massive amount of money if any bank at all is even considering to give them a mortgage at that income.

Buying off the landlord at about £130k.
Not everyone is a London metropolitan elite.

And probably still cheaper than renting.

Absolutely. I estimate their rent, or comparable properties, at around £700-750 for 2 bed terrace. Big rooms as well.

Somewhere along the line it has become normal for me to think I'm living in dreamland paying just under £1.50 for diesel.

My local Tesco the other day put both prices up 8p at random. Completely flying in the face of the other sites nearby. No idea why. Just did.

It'll still have a date. It's just changing to best before instead of use by (if this is the M&S thing)

UHT is the answer. Skimmed milk is what we have and nobody gives a shit when it's in a cup of PG or Tetley tea.

wonder if there's any noticeable increase in food poisoning rates, with "the sniff test" working a bit better when most of the planet hasn't just been infected with a virus known for fucking up a sense of smell
