Yup. Condensation on the inside of the window had frozen at the bottom of the pane

Got up before the heating came on this morning and fuck me that wasn't pleasant! 15 degrees upstairs which is absolutely fine, but 10 downstairs due to the heat vampire fireplace.
Anybody got any recommendations for chimney draught blockers? Tempted by a chimney sheep, which would probably pay for itself in a few weeks seeing as the thermostat is in the same room.

Would be a bit of a struggle to fit a second one up there.

Are you going for slow-roasted, or biltong-esque air-dried?

What's your minimum set as on the thermostat? I thought most people have it around 14 degs for the cutoff.

I just have it off from 22:00 - 07:30 and at 15 degrees after that. Absolutely hate having heating on while I'm in bed (apart from that blast in the morning as you're waking up)

Yeah, same here. I don't want the heating coming on at all while I'm in bed.

Wow you guys go LOW! Our thermostat is set to 18 at night and when we're away. The house takes ages to warm up.
Also apparently it's not good for kids for the temp to fall below 18 :/

After the last half-month bill, I've been playing about with the schedules and have it at 17 when it's just me in the house. With 2 jumpers and gloves, it's just about manageable but still bloody cold. Genuinely must be age, never used to be like this! No chance my wife would put up with that though, so 19 degrees when she's around. And have dropped the time it goes off to 8pm. See if that makes a difference....

We have reptiles (well, just the one at the moment – Voldetort!) and a ten-year-old daughter.
1970s end-terrace, traditional construction materials for the time, but upside down, so the upstairs is all open plan, living, dining and kitchen, and the downstairs is a narrow hallway with three bedrooms and a bathroom.
Gas central heating, using a fairly new boiler and BG's Hive system.
We currently use a schedule of:
0645 - 0815 – 20º 0815 - 1500 – 19º 1500 - 2200 – 20º 2200 - 0645 – 15º
If we feel cold at any point, we boost it to 23º for an hour or so.
I work from home, the little 'un is out during school hours and for various activities, and Mrs. M. works about five shifts a week away from home but is here otherwise.
Looking at the Hive graph (we don't pay for the "Plus" version, so it's just one day's data), it looks like we touched down at around the 15º overnight. If I'm understanding it correctly, the heating came on in three short bursts during that time to maintain that temperature.
We don't have smart meters, so I really don't have any way of knowing for sure what it's all costing, but our combined electricity and gas bill is currently £206. We then get the £67 back to us a couple of weeks later each month.
We did recently have the loft re-insulated, and it was chuffin' freezing up there when I went up on Tuesday, so the insulation definitely appears to be working!

Guess when I put the generator on... Glad to going back to a real house today. I'll be making a much bigger donation to homeless charities this year, they must have it so hard these days.

I know we've had a warm november and then it's plummeted to temperatures lower than normal for this time of year, but my body is definitely suffering more this year than last year. If I just wave my hand in the air, I can feel the coldness. Checked all the window seals and there's a *tiny* amount of air here and there, but nothing really dodgy. I've bought some sticky draft excluder things for the windows anyway as they're cheap as chips and definitely cheaper than getting new windows. WHEN WILL IT END Sunday, apparently.

I have just sort of grudgingly accepted my house just won't get warm by virtue of being end terrace and 140 ish years old.
Lots of layers and put it on when I'm quite cold. Can't wait for Monday.
My new windows won't be done until Jan but I'm hoping I can take advantage of recession kicking in to get cheaper work done on insulation. Because, of course, I qualify for fuck all from the government despite living in the exact sort of house that needs it.

The “heatwave” is only Sun - Tue though, isn’t it?
It’s on the downturn here again after that…

At least it will get rid of the snow. The pavements are lethal at the moment.

We never put the heating on in the morning before work - other half hates me for it but the house takes so long to heat and we're only up for around 30-45 minutes before leaving so there's little point imo. No kids either.
