At least we can probably all agree that escooter users are absolute cunts whether they're on the pavement or the road...

People over the age of 23 using a skateboard as transport are the worst. Unless you’re literally Tony Hawk.

I think they are brave, tbh. I dislocated my shoulder just by looking at one

People over the age of 23 using a skateboard as transport are the worst. Unless you’re literally Tony Hawk. At least they make a noise so that you're aware they exist. Come to Walthamstow and witness the scourge of the silent, deadly, often unlit, almost always piloted by someone dressed entirely in black, who knows whether it's going to attack from the road or the pavement, e-scooter

I’ve never ridden one of them- what are the brakes like? Are they supposed to use roads alone or are pavements allowed?

I don’t mind adults on skateboards. I’d probably do it too if I could be confident of not breaking my hip these days.
It’s those weirdos on longboards I don’t trust.
What sort of person would actually choose to ride around on the skateboarding equivalent of a pair crocs?

I've never ridden one, so my only opinion about them is based on coming close to being mown down by them (there are several) as a pedestrian on an almost weekly basis at this point. Combo'd with the 8,000 lumens headlight pricks (there are several) that idle on my road they're basically Danno aligned stealth bombers at the moment

Is it this thread or the cycling thread to talk about cars?

Cycle couriers are the worst. I did that shit for years, not overly keen on riding a bike ever again after that.

We have been short term leasing the Kia Niro EV to test it out. We had regular hybrid versions before that.
I love the EV version. The battery base gives it much more stability, and the acceleration and overall control are GREAT. Bizarrely I think it is most different/improved at very low speeds, and reversing, just very responsive. The acceleration on this are already more than good enough, so the Tesla performance stuff seems fairly pointless (/ big dick swinging).
I don't really get what people are in about the learning curve with the regenerative braking. I don't recall any issues. Maybe cos I always chose automatic before, I was closer to a golf cart already.
Re earlier remarks on family cars: the boot fits a double buggy. The main issue I have in terms of buying an EV, with a potential 3rd kid, is that none of them can take 3 proper car seats (except the X that isn't available here yet and is fairly expensive).

I think the learning curve is the lack of coasting when you take your foot off the champignon, the regen kicks in like a brake when you don’t expect it

On the highway code changes - I am definitely worried there is zero communication of them, especially the change in priority for pedestrians going straight ahead over cars turning across their path.
That's is what I was used to growing up on the continent, so it's not like it's a new invention... I was surprised it wasn't so when doing my driving lessons in UK.

Also to come in on e scooters. I used the rental ones all the time when I lived in the US. They were great to get around when I wasn't on my bike. They were only legal on the road, and were quickly limited to something like 15 mph or something.
The speed at which I see them going here in South London, and on pavements / in parks is fairly insane. I find it weird there isn't more action - but I guess the issue is that they are basically illegal in the first place (where isn't the land public in London???), So you can hardly set speed limits.

I see that, I definitely got used to it towards the end of the test drive. I just wasn't sure what to do when the vehicle comes to a full stop, do you keep your foot on the brake pedal? I wasn't sure, I did it anyway as I couldn't find the parking brake. I got in the habit of putting the Tesla in Neutral as well as I honestly had no idea what was safe. It seems like you can just forgo using anything but the accel pedal for everything. I'm rambling sorry, I just found it really weird.

It catches you out because when, for instance, you’re used to taking your foot off the pedal and coasting towards a stop, the car will instead grind to a halt and that takes a bit of time to get used to. A “learning curve” of sorts

Legit thought that "champignon" was some car bro phrase that Nick would be angry at me for not knowing.

I kind of like being able to coast slowly in heavy traffic by coming off the accel. But to be honest, it's probably better control to coast with a pedal lol
Added to this, the regen stop is so aggressive in the Tesla. I found it really hard to regulate my speed. I was jerky driving like a new learner coming out of the lot.
