I see one of those Yaris GRs near me and I get jealous every time I see it. Looks like a blast to drive.
I don't think I'd go back to manual gearboxes. My last two cars (Golf GTI and Audi A1) have both been Auto and I'm awaiting a new S3, also auto.
I guess if you're a drivers driver you still want manual but I am lazy. Plus an auto in traffic is glorious.

If you get a GR Yaris just make sure you get the circuit pack for maximum skidding opportunities... and don't overlook the Fiesta ST because it's almost more fun than the Yaris.
But yes, autos are game-changing if you have to ever use a UK motorway at peak times (and sit in queues of traffic).

I would absolutely love to upgrade to a GR Yaris. I have the bog standard Yaris Hybrid, and that is a dream to drive. No wonder the GR Yaris stock are like gold dust. Such a great fun car to use.

We've got a Yaris hybrid as my partner does 100 miles a day commuting. Brilliant car 70+ mpg is normal and it's all so easy to drive. Really only fault I have is there's a bit of wind noise.
Just about to replace my 12 year old 100,000 mile mx5 with a nearly new one that's done 2% of that. Loved the old car but service bills and road tax are getting a bit pricey and just can't face spending more on it as it rusts. Having to de-ice the interior of my windscreen this winter was the final straw! So getting the direct replacement car.

Out of interest have you been back to the dealership for services/mot to keep the warranty going each year upto the maximum of 10? I know a local garage that I use for my Fiesta and they are brilliant. I've checked and he does have a number of guys who are trained for hybrid systems but of course it'll probably void the warranty.

Use them for Hire Purchase for 2.5 years, and then Toyota usually will renew when it comes up to 3 years. Give them the old car back, and get another new Yaris ready to go. These shapes of Yaris have been the best ones they've made. Piece of piss to drive, really good for MPG and does everything you need it to do. I've had them serviced at Toyota and generally have been faultless. We've had more issues with the Rav4 than anything else, a dodgy key battery issue that never seems to be fixed.

Coming to end of my pcp, so going through the fun of negotiating right now. Their best price, which has been revised down once is about 5% off list (this for a new Tiguan). I think demand is relatively high and lead times long so not sure I’m getting much better than that.
Only area I might have some wiggle room is the settlement on our current car. I checked out that site quad mentioned on the previous page and it was valued at £2k more than they are offering. I bloody hate all this nonsense!

Not getting much change out of the dealership. Got to just under 5% off the list price and they only gave an extra £250 on the part ex price. They (I guess rightly) pointed out that the online prices are for selling now and the price they have given me is for 12 months. They’ve basically said fuck off that’s the best we are doing so I feel I’m not in the best negotiating position. Seems it’s a sellers market right now.
Upshot is an extra £35 per month on a new pcp deal. Will have a look round at other options but think we will find ourselves in a similar position elsewhere. Interest rates haven’t helped to be fair.

Well I opted for another Ford fiesta for the wife. 5 door Zetec trim in white, 35k miles and full service history for £9k and they wouldn't budge on the price either. Got the impression they knew the car would sell given its low milage for a 16plate car that's had all services and MOTs at the dealership.
I liked the Yaris but I just can't justify the price but I know what I'll have once my car becomes a bit expensive to fix in future
Edit: Got to work and thought I'd have a quick look at the front tyres on mine. I think they might be on the limit if not over.

Hate that moment where the lights are amber turning red, you're pretty close to the line where youd have to slam the brakes but there's a twat right up your arse. Drove on ahead, I don't think I could have stopped the guy behind slamming in and I know I passed the lights still on amber but fuck there's that feeling still that I hope I wasn't caught for that

Cheers, there's none I see listed on that road. I am careful and do and should know better but I get tetchy about cars so close behind me as the only accident I ever had was a result of someone doing that to me so it puts me on edge a bit nowadays. Won't happen again.

That actually made me queasy to read. It's taken me years to get out of my pcp agreement and the thought of doing it again makes me shiver with dread! Did you mention in your other post that motorway.co.uk valued it 2k more than the settlement figure, or have I got that bit wrong? Because if so, you could get out your agreement and have 1-5k ish in your pocket. You'd obviously have no car at this point, but you'd be out the pcp game and could get a runaround while you save up for something else? Or do you want to continue the Pcp route?

Honestly don't really have an issue with the pcp route. I just find it pretty easy and can upgrade every few years without too much hassle. Its just a bit frustrating that we can't negotiate too much and the interest rates are working against us.
We can't really do without a car for any period of time due to the 3 little ones. I get its not for everyone though.

Oh yeah, definitely - if there's plenty of you, then yeah, you need something, and probably need something fairly reliable. I'm just downsizing and getting rid of debt, so I'm in a different situation.
Don't go BMW though. BMW drivers image aside, it's really fucking expensive. I have nearly as many features in a 56 plate jazz than I did on my bmw's. Overpriced. And they're not that comfy either.
I want one of those transit custom vans. That would be so fucking useful for me, for both work and shifting stuff, and moving music band equipment etc.
I might check some prices actually!

Best mate is considering getting a Citroen Ami, trying to talk him out of it. He seems a bit fed up with cars in general, and how much it all costs. Anyone tried one? 5th Gear managed to get one on two wheels at 10mph :/

Yeah, I was looking at getting a vw passat second hand. They just drive forever, but couldn't find one in my price range, so thought I'd buy a metal swimming pool instead.

I got a new Seat Ibiza, first time with a start stop keyless function. Past two times I've left the house I reverse out of my drive. I have the clutch down, buttons pressed, engines started but when wanting to shift to reverse or any gear really, there's a grinding noise. Pretty sure the clutch is all the way down. And I don't even think its an issue with the gearbox or transmission because on both times I stopped the car, turned it on again and I can put the car into reverse or 1st no bother. Just wonder if this car needs more time to fully start or something after being out in the cold all night. I dunno, I'm in a rush these past two days, half asleep, just curious if there's an additional step I'm missing.

Reverse gear usually doesn't have a synchronizer, so the trick is to put it in first and let off the clutch a little till it bearly starts to pull, then shift to reverse. If it does it in first gear as well, somethings up.

If it does it in first gear as well, somethings up. You can also put it in reverse, let the clutch up a tiny bit and then nudge the gear stick fully into reverse. Ive had a few manuals that dont quite get all the way there on the first try.

My work mule does this. I've always just taken it back out of gear and given the gearstick a bit more of a tug (oi oi) the second time.

Reverse gear doesn't normally have synchromesh because you're supposed to only engage it when you're stopped. So it doesn't need to switch from an already moving gear.
If it's grinding when it's cold, but not when it's warmer, it might need the transmission fluid checked or changed. If that's ok (nice and pink/red, not sludgy brown), but you still have to partially disengage the clutch to get the vehicle into any gear when it's cold, it (the clutch) might need adjusting properly. If it is adjusted or has an auto adjuster, it might be the slave cylinder.
If you've just got it, I'd be straight back to the dealers.

Not only did it happen to me again this morning, but happened to me mid journey when stopping at a junction. Couldnt shift to 1st gear after coming to a stop. Not a great start to the morning, but corrected itself in the end. I emailed the dealer about if they could take a look at it, my worry is when they do they won't find anything wrong because it does sort itself out and is OK from there

I can’t get into first gear before at least two coffees in the morning, it might be worth trying a spoon of instant in the tank?
