I genuinely have some reason to believe its because the car is cold left overnight. Wonder if I leave the engine running for a bit first would it solve it, because like I said it's fine any other time of the day. But then I've been driving 15 years and never had this issue with any other car.

I emailed the dealer about if they could take a look at it, my worry is when they do they won't find anything wrong because it does sort itself out and is OK from there I had similar with a BMW. It randomly went into limp home mode when you put the power down but the dealer 'couldnt find anything wrong with it' on several occasions, which I find hard to believe given all the telemetry they output. Lessons learned: I should have pushed harder for a fix and, ultimately, rejected it. I never fully trusted it for the duration of ownership.

A small rant about car insurance.
Since the FCA stepped in with new rules to try and prevent price walking its made savings by switching much smaller. Great for those who never switched because they are lazy or whatever but not so good for the rest of us. The price still goes up each year anyway as my renewal quote is £438 with Hastings Prem for the year which is £95 more than the previous year. Includes everything I'll likely never need but even the top search result with AXA would have only saved me around £35 on the renewal quote.
As for direct line... ha! Over £700!
It was actually worth switching only a year or so ago but I also remember my parents having to ring round for car and home insurance before the age of comparison websites and I know of only one person who still did it this way until his sister put a stop to that nonsense recently.

Nitrous but it was going to make everything better for the customers! (of course it was) I've had similar this week. The Mrs is no longer using "her" care (because it's a manual) and so we decided not to renew the insurance as was. They said "ok" and proceeded to setup a quote for me, which came out as £300 more than for both of us on our other (much bigger, much more valuable, much more powerful) car - and then were surprised and a bit pissed when I said "lol, no thanks". I did do a quick shop round and can actually save quite a lot if I go via a comparison site for a new customer setup. Oh, and on the subject the other car. The manufacturer wanted £400 to update the (10 year old) sat nav, which would then doubtless be out of date again in a year AND another £300 to "properly tune" the DAB, which is apparently set for German frequencies. So I bought a 3rd party Carplay/Android Auto converter a few weeks ago and fitted it (with a fair amount of swearing, if I'm honest) over the weekend and it's a revelation. It'll stay up to date and cost less than the dealers wanted. Win. Still not "cheap", but well worth it.

Actually opened the bonnet of my car for the first time since i've bought it(a year and a half I think), like a big brave boy. Even topped off my oil and washer fluid. Can confirm there was an engine underneath.

My Direct Line renewal came in today at £350 more than last year. FFS, going to have to shop around now...

Mine is up for renewal too, renewal with Dial Direct was £150 up on last year. Still a saving of over a £100 by shopping around.

Same boat, Direct Line up from £740 to £1150. Penance for being a tesla wanker maybe but nothing changed since last renewal, 42 and never claimed a penny on insurance in my life. A quick confused.com and meerkat search and they’re £1,800 minimum even for crappy unheard of insurers. What’s the deal.

Same here with car insurance. I renewed last month with LV= and it had gone up about 25%. Same car (VW Tiguan), no claims and the same people insured to drive - just me and the Mrs.
Comparison sites were no cheaper - even LV themselves were slightly more expensive via the comparison than my renewal quote with exactly the same details, so I just let it auto-renew.
I feel like I’ve failed Martin Lewis, but the reality seems to be that if insurers can’t overcharge people who don’t shop around at renewal, they’ll just overcharge everybody instead.

Admiral gave me a renewal cost of £550 after paying £300 last year. Went on comparison sites and managed to get a quote from the AA for £300.
Called Admiral to see if they could improve their offer - told them if they could get to £350 or under I'd stick with them but anything over that please cancel.
What followed was a tedious 20 minute phone call where the poor bastard on the other end offered me 'special' discounts, asked me to tweak my policy and a whole host of other bollocks before only getting to £390 as their final offer.
Wasted my time and his time for no reason (other than following his companies' procedure I assume).
Hate having this chat every year with Sky, Building Insurance, Car Insurance etc.

Weird, Churchill keep giving me lower renewals year on year. I was bracing myself for an eventual rise this year but no it was lower again.
Maybe because my car is a piece of shit.

I've been with Adrian Flux for years now. Renewal quotes rarely take the piss, though tend to be a little higher than previous year and after a quick check of the price comparison sites, they've always managed to match the best quote.

A quick confused.com and meerkat search and they’re £1,800 minimum even for crappy unheard of insurers. What’s the deal. Insurance for electric cars has gone bonkers recently. Insurance for even the most basic Tesla Model 3 was twice what I was being quoted for some seriously knarly petrol machinery, even more if you go for long range and/or performance models. Even something really modest like an MG4 was pretty expensive all things considered. I've never quite understood how insurance works. Logic always used to dictate that something expensive and fast was more expensive to insure, but it's not always the case. Got a quote for a brand new FK8 Type-R at less than £300 once, only for another quote on a 54 plate 1.6 Focus to come back at nearly £800, from the same insurer no less. I'm sure there's some sort of insurance statistic/table somewhere that says an old banger of a Focus is more likely to end up in a serious accident or something, bit it still seems odd.

Teslas are stupidly expensive to insure, but that’s mainly because they sit in the same insurance groups as Porsche 911s and so on - 48-50.
It’s definitely a factor that goes overlooked when people choose electric cars to save money (rather than just to save the planet)…
Most “normal” brands aren’t that bad, but still cost more to insure than petrol equivalents.

Surely electric cars cost a shit load more to repair and are consequently more likely to be written off after an accident?

Write offs don’t cost insurers more money, they’re a cost saving tool

Tesla plan on launching their own insurance soon in any case, traditional underwriters are probably anticipating that

I think it’s two things, electric cars tend to have a lot of horsepower and they accelerate fast, and in Tesla’s case they can only be repaired by Tesla.

Write offs don’t cost insurers more money, they’re a cost saving tool They do if there are more of them compared to non-electric write-offs.

£400 was the cheapest I could get. Some no mark company, eeeek.
Wife scraped the front end into a wall, trying to avoid being parked on double yellows. Probably a grand's worth of work. I'd have taken the fine thanks.
