Got the Clio booked in at Renault tomorrow - £132 just for them to look at it. Hope they are wearing masks when I drop it off the robbing feckers Went round to check on it today and it was the same, deep puddles behind both seats. I’ve not driven it since I dried it out a week or so ago so it must be rain water getting in rather than a blocked hose or something It’s pissing me right off

That's another reason why I'm driving a fish tank as opposed to a bmw. Got quotes for 175 each for the bmws Yeah, I feel you. Mine has an A1 service due - and it is needed, so it's not really "due but I can put it off for another few months" - which means lots more money. I hate paying for cars man. Yeah it sucks. Its like throwing money out the window. Fucking things.

When I had a Megane one of the design flaws was that the doors leaked around the mirrors meaning the door pockets would have a half inch or so of water if it had been raining, I used to line the pockets with copious quantities of paper towels which would soak up said water to which I would just empty out and dispose of, every time it rained, was much quicker than sponging it out. It did help that my work conveniently had copious supplies of paper towels available in the bogs.

Let's see how all purpose this thread is...
Have just put down a deposit for a Tern GSD s00 electric cargo bike. Intention is to use it instead of the car for anything near-ish. Which in London probably means a further distance than in the car as it will generally be faster to get places than driving!!!
We currently use bikes modified to be electric and a Thule double trailer, but it's a faff for non day trips and the electrics are just not as good. I often end up being too lazy, especially when wet / tired, and drive instead.
So plan on using the bike as a car replacement.

Can't remember if I posted this at the time but the wife's Ford 08 fiesta has a leak in the boot and the radio has a mind of its own. Half the buttons are not lit, none of the buttons respond and if you do turn the radio on the volume goes to max unless you continue to spin the volume dial back down or press it off again.
Other than that, it's fine!

Just to update on my Clio situation. They couldn’t find the leak but sent me a quote to strip out the interior, which was £578, in addition to the £132 for the initial “look” at it
Back to square one. I’ve argued that the £132 wasn’t justified for a visual check and they agreed so it’s not cost me anything
If I had a workshop I’d just strip it myself. Will have to find a cheapo garage to sort it

fucking fucking shit DVSA. Son booked his driving test 24 weeks out in September, for February, on a Friday afternoon when he's not working, I'm not working and we can get to the test centre.
Today, they've email to say his driving examiner is no longer available, so here's another day, Thursday lunchtime, end of March. WTAF.

I think I know where it’s coming in now quadfatherI took it to the main dealer as I thought they’d have some expertise and experience but it was sadly lacking. Didn’t have to pay the £132 though, which was nice. I think they were a bit pissed off to be honest. When I turned up to pick it up this afternoon I said “I’m here to pick up my car” and the receptionist walked off without so much of a word, didn’t even ask my name. Came back, gave me the keys and said “Out that door, turn left and you’ll find it” I’ve done some research and I’m certain that it must be blocked with leaves and gunk under the scuttle panel so instead of water draining out, it’s coming through under the dashboard I need to take the scuttle panel out and the whole wiper mechanism to fix it. Or possibly blast it with a jet wash and see if it dislodges the crud

Anyone have any dealings with Cinch? Just bought a Suzuki celerio from there. 6.3k for 21k miles, 2017. Been looking for a week or so and bearing in mind I need no mod cons (gets used for running kids to school (15 mins away, then me to work 15 mins back, and the reverse), it seemed the best price for reliability I could get. Hoping I’ve not bought a dud. Hate buying cars with a passion!

Big well known company with good reviews and a very reliable and mechanically simple car. No worries at all but you can email Rylan if you have any issues anyway

I think their warranties are pretty good, as well. So even if it is a dud (and that seems unlikely, their entire business model is that the cars are good ones), you can return it for any reason within 14 days and I believe that they have a 90 day warranty on most parts, too.
I believe they pride themselves on it covering more than most warranty packages.
You should be fine.

Well that’s a relief. I usually buy bangers for a year or two but that market seems to have collapsed (or more properly, be costing around 2k for something you used to be able to get for 5-600, which is where the risk calculation totally breaks down for it).

You can still see the Prius DNA, but it does look a bit sleek and modern.
I always wondered why we didn't get futuristic cars sooner, since most concept models look much sleeker than the production models. You'd think the masses would be used to such designs since we've had so many science fiction blockbusters for decades.

My mum has had a Swift for like 13 years. Reliable as a MF'er and really cheap if anything needs fixed. Horrible to drive mind.

Oh. I’ve never wanted a Toyota in my life (well apart from a supra in 1995) but they announce a Corolla GR and new Prius both of which I would seriously consider and they don’t offer to UK. Consider my back well and truly turned now Toyota people.

I saw a Yaris GR on the way into work this morning. I’ve got a Clio Trophy, one of the best hot hatches of all time, but I was still a little jealous

Ooh, got similar cut from the same cloth //waves my 94 Clio Williams in the air. Nice! That’s a £20k to £30k car these days isn’t it? Crazy how prices have gone over the last three years. There’s Clio Trophy’s on Autotrader for £21k and £22k and they only cost £15k brand new at launch I only paid £5k for mine in great condition in 2014 before the market for them dropped a little and you could pick one up for peanuts, like £3k with high miles Since the pandemic prices for a lot of modern classics have sky rocketed

Today, they've email to say his driving examiner is no longer available, so here's another day, Thursday lunchtime, end of March. WTAF. Bit late to this, but I'd recommend Testi app if anyone is in the same boat. It's a new version of the auto-booking apps. It scans the test centres you specify for cancelled test dates (you need one already booked). If one pops up you fancy, you fire in and swap it for yours. It's an updated version of the auto-rebooking apps that the DVSA banned. You have to manually confirm it, you can get loud alerts to your phone, you have to be quick. Our local test centres are mobbed. My son was looking at waiting 4 months for his (3rd) resit. But one for the next week popped up, and we grabbed it. Also paid for an app with test routes for the relevant centre. It was not his usual, but the one where I passed. Complicates it needing to liaise with an instructor....ours "quit" after the first fail, saying there was no more he could teach. I did agree with him, nothing wrong with his driving, he just need to not do daft things on the test. Passed when he probably should have failed, 4rd time lucky (the opposite from his other tests...). Great he's now got the freedom to leave the house and go to random places at 3am...

I'm just going to let him do his test in our smax. It was really cheap to insure him as a learner on it (300 quid), and it counts towards his no claims bonus.

They keep turning up in stock at work and once the kids are out of nursery I may be tempted to do something silly and PCP one for a few years...
