Spotify started playing me The Mystery Lights (not to be mistaken with the Mystery Jets) and I'm annoyed I've not heard them before; they are a real rock and roll throwback and I'm loving it (my favourite band are The Doors and there are some shades of that old school rhythm and blues rock).
The album I'm listening to is from 2019, but they have a new one out this year it turns out.

The live line-up might be 50% session guys now but I’m not sure I’ve ever heard them sound this clear on a live clip before. Chino in the best form he’s been in probably 20 years too.

These KEXP shows are something else in terms of sound quality.

I picked up Hendrix’s Cry of Love and Rainbow Bridge on LP yesterday and played them at decent volume today. They are the first big posthumous releases and contain most of the nearly finished stuff that would have come after Electric Ladyland (notably Izabella, one of his best songs, was held back).
Anyway, simply brilliant - got them from a travelling record stall at about a twenty quid total discount - they are the heavyweight reissues from the last couple of years and sound gorgeous. Cry of Love is by far the better of the two although RB has its moments. I’ve always been drawn to that funkier period of Hendrix after he got Billy Cox in the band, still music’s biggest loss IMO.

simpleRelated - have you seen the Woodstock sessions for Team Sleep? There are six songs to watch/listen to I think. its a bit sad what happened to Deftones. Stef won’t play outside of the US because he won’t get vaccinated and I think his mental health is a bit battered nowadays generally. Infamously a flat earther. And I still think they did Sergio Vega dirty.

Stef was always a bit of an odd one but he does appear to have really fallen down a rabbit hole of anxiety, paranoia and conspiracy from the hints of information that come out.
And agree, what they did to Sergio was so disappointing. All those years and they turn around like oh yeah, you were never in the band get lost.

My man! Izabella is absolute peak Jimi in his "funkier" period with Cox. I do love the version at Woodstock with Mitchell on drums with his looser jazz style, but with Buddy Miles on drums at the Fillmore East shows 69/70 it's just total perfection, so damn tight and funky!

jimnasticsCheers, have been obsessed by the man since I was about 15, I’ve got just about everything save for the Dagger releases. Am familiar with the box set too - although it’s been delayed (again). You can listen to a few of the songs now on Spotify and presumably other platforms. This might be a reverse granny/eggs scenario but I’ll counter-suggest the set Songs for Groovy Children for that period. It’s the (almost) full Band of Gypsys set from all four of the Fillmore Gypsys shows and is very very good - in particular there’s a version of Stone Free running to nearly 20 minutes that is pretty jaw dropping. It’s funny with Hendrix that a lot of the posthumous material just doesn’t suit the vinyl experience at all, but it’s good to have anyway, so I own far more on CD/my iPod than my record collection would suggest. For deep dive madness I recommend this site: jimihendrixrecordguide.com/
