Song I've got *almost* in my head, can't place, and can't summon the right google-fu to find
Had, I think, a 90s trance/chill out vibe Music video was entirely black screen with occasional words & phrases pulled from the lyrics & flashed up in white, with some adobe transitions
Lyrics was spoken word, an entirely baked guy with californian stoner drawl trying to remember the last night containing snippets such as: began with friend calling him up (or him calling friend up?) saying words to effect of "you missed a banging night", and friend (or narrator?) being "I know man I was there"
half remembered conversation suddenly stopped with something like " oh wait, they might have been the police" - a couple of minutes later the narrative is interupted with something like " oh shit, they were the police" wandering into fast food joint/diner utterly transfixed by the hum of the strip lights slightly assaulty section where this diner scene has a conversation with the owner culminating in narrator saying something like "I like your waitress, I'm taking her" and dragging her outside - there's a more minimalistic remix that cuts this section entirely, focussing more on looping the core refrain (which I can't quite remember) and is quite banging
please help Edit: got it, "eat sleep rave repeat" Fatboy slim feat. Beardyman. No idea why that popped in there this morning

The album radio based on Paul's Boutique on Spotify. Old school hiphop from the 80s and '90s (Jurassic 5, Mos Def, Beastie Boys, Stetsasonic, Wu Tang, etc.) Nostalgia!

The Smiths - The Queen Is Dead
Let's get the elephant in the room out of the way: yes, it was (perhaps obviously) the recent news that prompted me to revisit this album for the first time in many years... but that's not why I'm posting it here.
I'm posting it here because I'd forgotten what a brilliant record it was, and is - ten songs, and not a weak link among them.
'I Know It's Over' features what may be Morrissey's finest vocal performance ever; 'There Is a Light That Never Goes Out', 'Bigmouth Strikes Again', and 'The Boy with the Thorn in His Side' are all top-tier greatest hits material; and 'Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others', despite its silly lyrical conceit, remains one of Marr's many standout moments.
I could go on, but I won't.
Don't let Morrissey's recent (-ish) slide into outright cuntery detract from the brilliance of The Smiths. They don't deserve such ignominy.

I Know It's Over is possibly the best breakup/unrequited love song I've ever heard.
The "If you're so funny/clever/good looking" verse is an absolute stand-out - funny and devstating at the same time.
I'd argue "Never Had No On Ever" is the sole weak link though; just meanders.

Yeah, I don’t reach for the Smiths often these days (thanks Morrissey) but Queen is Dead and a lot of their other stuff is undeniable

Don't know why but the second half of this really grabs me. Just the way she plays around with the way she sings the words.

The good thing about The Smiths is that Jonny Marr seems to be an absolute saint and, imho, seems like enough of a Top Lad to make them at worst karma neutral. Thankfully they arent just Morrissey.
Also: Ive been listening to this a lot

Oh, absolutely - Marr seems like a great guy, and he was a superb songwriter into the bargain. (I say "was" because I've never checked out any of his solo material, but it wouldn't surprise me if he's still got it.)
It's worth shouting out Rourke and Joyce as well, because they were excellent musicians who contributed a lot to the band's sound.

@blue_Mike I’ve not kept up with South Park over the last ten years but there are some absolute bangers in that set.
Still mostly listening to Screaming Females at the moment. Such an under-appreciated band.

In a weirdly nostalgic mood. I must be one of the few people who bought the Bomfunk MCs album on the back of this single. Ended up listening to it on repeat on a coach trip I took to Switzerland with the Venture Scouts.
Looking back it's really not very good.
I still think Fashion Styley is a pretty sick deep cut from the album, though I doubt it will score many cool points.
edit - Just realised the aesthetic for the Freestyler video is very Mirror's Edge-esque.

Official stream of a full live set from Clutch’s current tour. Skip forward to the 35min mark for show time. They’ve not lost a step since I first saw them touring Pure Rock Fury 20 years ago.

I'm always kind of surprised about how good they are whenever I come back to them. It's "avant-rock, experimental and neo-classical chamber music" according to wiki. Much easier to listen to than suggested by that description though. At least that's the case for me.
