U2 - The Unforgettable Fire
The sound of high school. Seems like a very long time ago... and in fact, IS a very long time ago. Sigh.

3rd Secret - the new album.
It's just came out and the group is made up of various Soundgarden, Nirvana, and Pearl Jam alumni. Interesting but not blowing me away.

Quite disappointed at the lack of forumites listening the the official FG band's new album today... For shame! Been listening to Wet Legs stuff if that's official FG policy and will probably get the CD for the 1st time in an age. I wish them well.

Yeah. going in with a "Soundgarden, Nirvana, Pearl Jam" mindset is probably destined to disappoint! It's more of a Krist Novoselic + special guests thing, this is the kind of style he goes for, and of course female singers changes the dynamic even more. I quite like it, a lot of it's got a classic British folk vibe going on and I like that. But it is all a bit samey and nothing particularly stands out.

Titus Andronicus - The Most Lamentable Tragedy Great album from a great band. Would like to see a return to this/The Monitor style.

Titus Andronicus - The Most Lamentable Tragedy Great album from a great band. Would like to see a return to this/The Monitor style. Yeah, same. Personally, I really like the first four records, then it's a big dip on the 5th. The most recent one (the Steve Albini produced "the Obelisk") is interesting, but for me, it's the Monitor that's their peak. "Still waiting for the Fun-Wah Bus to carry me to who knows where" Saw them live back in the noughties and Patrick was probably the single angriest person I've ever seen on stage. But afterwards, with a beer and a cigarette, he was really funny and good to speak to (although I only did briefly because he was surrounded). One of the more interesting indie/punk figures of recent years.

We had a few lectures between songs about the evil of eating meat and a few others things. "You will always, be a loser" is possibly one of the best singalongs I've experienced at a gig. Really want to see them again.

rhaegyr yeah, that sounds exactly like it. But at the Fleece in Bristol, he was angry about the sound quality, angry about being the support act, angry about the beer and angry about something to do with merch. He was just really not happy onstage. I love that song (No Future Part 3: Escape from No Future) and in fact, the whole "No Future" suite. But that one particularly. So good.

Wow.. The Fleece. *enters wibbly nostalgia flashback mode* We left Bristol last year, but as far as I know, it hasn't changed at all. In all those years, it's basically the same (great) place.

I used to go there all the time between about 2001 and 2006. Never lived in Bristol (well, i did actually for 2 weeks, but that was another time) but was sentenced to 5 years in Swindon so I used to catch the train down from time to time to see live music there. Then try and catch the last train back, which didn't always work out well.
It was a great little venue iirc.

Pink Floyd - The Wall
I can only listen to this about once a year, its such a heart-wrenching, emotional gut punch of a record. Staggering in its ambition, musicality and breadth of themes. Each time I hear it I'm more and more convinced it's one of the greatest artistic achievements of all time.

I used to listen to that on repeat, especially with the "isn't this where we came in?" loop.

90s hip hop mix Youtube threw up for me. Great tracks non-stop, basically the soundtrack to my uni years in Bristol

Not one of Slayer's best songs, the vocals are a little shit, but damn the main riff is nasty.
Also slightly "inspired" the Doom OST:

U2 - The Unforgettable Fire The sound of high school. Seems like a very long time ago... and in fact, IS a very long time ago. Sigh. Aye. Brilliant album though, itβs between this and Achtung Baby for my favourite U2 Album. Amazing how they produced something as good as Achtung Baby then decided to turn utter shit.

ecosse. TUF is a great album. For me U2 were at their best with the Boy/October/War albums. Strangely when I was at school you either liked U2 or Simple Minds (if you liked either of course!)...I was totally and am totally in the SM camp

I used to listen to Live in the City of Light while driving to school. Very good for driving unsafely fast to and then crashing. I liked both at the time though.

As usual, I'm catching up on this thread at work (the videos that aren't blocked, anyway) Not heard of Titus Andronicus before. First thought was 'they sound like early Bright Eyes' and Wikipedia says that they supported Bright Eyes at one point, so it seems like I wasn't too far off.
