Love some of the conjecture being banded about when talking about this stuff (which I myself have been guilty of in fairness), "such and such *probably* said..." and so forth.
Can't we just all agree that both of these companies would happily pawn your grandmother's ashes if they thought it would benefit their market share.

All in the stuff that got released/reported on from the FTC case. Spencer confirmed Sony are blocking the FF7 and Silent Hill remakes from coming to Xbox. Said they got word that Sony was trying to take Starfield away from Xbox completely which is what made them step in and buy the company. I wonder about that last bit. It would have taken a very, very large amount of dough to make the biggest Bethesda game in a decade exclusive to one console, even if it were the market leader. Could have just meant 1 year exclusive like they did with Deathloop and Ghostwire. But the way it was put in tweets made it sound like Spencer said they wanted to keep it from Xbox completely which made them realise they needed to start being aggressive. They also take less than the standard split for COD after Activision threatened to stop selling it on Xbox. |

The thing though, is that there’d still be that stupid Steam thing where it launches the other launcher every time you boot the game up, right? Like with EA and Ubisoft titles.

Wasn't there that whole EU ruling about the way MS was abusing their control of windows to force people to use IE? And yet now windows keeps trying to force me to use Edge. Quite why they didn't apply a similar ruling to Apple devices and Safari, and Google devices and Chrome I don't know. Apple are currently/about to have to make shifts on iOS regarding browsers anyhow. As you could have Chrome/Firefox on iOS but it had to internally be built with Webkit which is the Apple maintained one and that's going to be coming to an end due to anti-competitive behaviour. At least, most probably everyone is anticipating it's going to happen. |

I've been playing D4 via the steam link app on my TV and you can't just add D4 to steam because it just launches battlenet on the D4 page and you have to click play. I have to start it up with a mouse plugged in first so I can click play and then connect the pad. |

Idiot launchers depend on the competence of the publisher really. Hence the EA one sucked. The Paradox or Total War launchers work perfectly fine without managing to jump in between steam, their nonsense and actually running your game.

So after this deal closes, what are the old Activision games that you hope MS brings back? That is to say, makes a new version of.
I've not thought much beyond Tony Hawk being on Game Pass, but I wonder if they'd try to make a third person Pitfall game to be "their Uncharted". Might be too similar to Indiana Jones mind.

Heretic/Hexen is the big one for me, now that they have both pieces of that puzzle (Raven + id).

I remember when Blizzard were claiming that they wouldn’t be infected with Activision’s evil when they agreed to merge into the biomass. It has me thinking about whether they’ll infect Microsoft when it consumes them, or if we’d even notice any difference.

Maybe, but I feel it’s like if Trump left government but all the people he hired and judges he appointed stayed on to propagate the culture.
I worked in a fairly large business (500 employees I think) with a fish-rots-from-the-head problem. Really good people left, bad people stayed, so the culture just got increasingly concentrated.
