Don’t be silly, Microsoft could never buy Nintendo.
They’ll buy Sony.

As long as I can play Starfield on my Microsoft PS6, I'm down

I like that one of the reasons the FTC is appealing the decision is because it will look bad if they lose. Considering that’s Sony’s whole motivation, it makes sense. They’re ride or dying this whole stupid thing. Yeah, but making a point of it in the actual appeal filing is a bold move.

FTC’s appeal request to block the merger has been denied by the higher court, although weirdly it sounds like they will hear the case but only after the acquisition has gone ahead?

Also, the Marvel Ultimate Alliance games have Xbox series x versions recently released by Activision - why wouldn't they go on game pass?

Also, the Marvel Ultimate Alliance games have Xbox series x versions recently released by Activision - why wouldn't they go on game pass? Some games might, some games will not. Just because Activision publish something doesn't mean they can do whatever with it, the original contracts most likely don't have a clause for being able to put certain games on a subscription based service. Again, if they're arsed to renegotiate certain licences then they will.

Also, seeing as those games were delisted from the store ages ago, I would wager it’s a no. Same with the Transformers games. Activision must not have held on to the licenses for very long.
Actually annoys me about the Ninja Turtles game Platinum developed, which Activision published. It got poor reviews so I was hoping to get it on sale, but that game didn’t last long. Which is why I made sure to buy Shredder’s Revenge as soon as possible, out of fear that’d leave digital stores quickly too.

See all the old cod games have had online updates. Likely ready for when they go on Game Pass. Seems its only the current release that can't until Sony's deal ends in a couple years.

If it’s “more choice,” they should’ve @ed Nintendo too. @ing PlayStation is the same choice.

No chance IMO.
Would actually be surprised if they buy any other publisher this gen. Buy a few smaller companies but that's it.

So the choice is spend £50 on COD at launch, or get it as part of Gamepass. Obviously those tied into a new gen console already will have made their choice, but I wonder impact it’ll have on those still yet to buy a current gen console.

You mean I’ve upset him already?!
Edit - Actually, I did opt for a Series X this gen. And I’m still playing my Switch mostly, so yeah. It checks out.

If you're coming from a Xbox one or PS4 the only difference will be down to friends list and your digital library.

I think they would have a much harder job getting Take Two done now seeing how long this one dragged out. Would say GTA is too big to let a console maker own. IO would be a good shout but I would think they would be reluctant to have another owner considering how bad it went with SE. They seem to be doing very well by themselves at the moment.
Judge in the CAT hearing basically saying the Sony deal should be the end of it and MS and Activision should close the deal today or tomorrow.
Challenged the CMA on the quick 180 to want to sit and chat to MS after they took the FTC out of the situation.
Sounds like even he just wants it all to be done now. Feels like it's been about 2 years since it was first announced.

Still surprised this looks more or less done now, I would genuinely have bet money on it not going through just before the FTC injunction hearing.
The powers that be definitely made a complete hash of trying to block it, my nan probably knows more about the gaming industry than the FTC's lawyers.

It is baffling that both the FTC and CMA, set up to support consumers, have handled it so poorly they've got people cheering the megacorp instead

I think people would’ve been more against it if Sony’s actual arguments weren’t “but courts, what if they do all the things we’re actively doing??”
The leaked emails made both sides look terrible, but Sony’s official statements made them look like hypocrites.

Trying to find a side to empathise with between these two titans of the most uninspiring part of video-game space is like trying to pick the best ghost for Pac-Man to eat.

IO might not be bad shout. Their new fantasy rpg is allegedly xbox exclusive if any of the "facts" from the recent ftc case are to be believed.

Wasn't there that whole EU ruling about the way MS was abusing their control of windows to force people to use IE? And yet now windows keeps trying to force me to use Edge.
Quite why they didn't apply a similar ruling to Apple devices and Safari, and Google devices and Chrome I don't know.

I keep coming back to the fact that, while I think in general huge companies buying up vast chunks of an industry is probably bad, there are so many mitigating factors here that I've always been generally in favour of it.
I guess there's a trust issue (eg will MS make good on its promises, will they actually change anything, etc) but the fact that Acti has a terrible corporate culture, and the fact that so many talented devs are just chained to supporting CoD all the time, means there's actually a lot of stuff Microsoft could do that would be really beneficial; and it probably has to be someone of MS's size in order to do it. And, if Acti is looking for a sale, I'd rather a vested gaming company like Xbox was in charge than have them strip-mined for assets or absorbed into someone like Amazon.
On the other hand, if this CMA renegotiation ends up with all cloud streaming cut out of Game Pass in the UK, then the whole thing can get in the sea.

Meanwhile, the EU have a problem with MS bundling Teams with Office, and they have been forced to separate them to appease Slack.
I simply fail to understand how the Activision deal isn't orders of magnitude more egregious than this

To be honest I'd personally be less surprised if MS don't manage to fuck it up completely
