This court stuff has revealed MS considered trying to buy Bungie again. Guessing not offering them independence like they have with Sony would be a blocker.
Also interested in buying Sega and IO. Which probably lead to MS getting IO to make that Project Dragon game
Spend that money on......Voodoo Vince 2!

As sad as it was at the time (I absolutely adored the Dreamcast), Sega were better off out of the hardware market.
I wouldn't imagine we'll see more than another generation or two of consoles out of Sony and Microsoft, as they'll most likely pivot to digital storefronts on PC and cloud gaming options for smartphones and smart TVs.
The small form factor gaming PC market is already hotting up (not to mention the new generation of handheld Steamdeck killers like the Ayaneo 2S and Asus ROG Ally) it would make sense to dump the development costs of newer, faster hardware onto companies like these and focus purely on the games.

Took a while after going 3rd party but Sega have really turned it around and seem to be on a bit good run now days bar Forces.
Saturn/Dreamcast era is still peak Sega gaming for me though. Saturn had countless great arcade games and DC they started making some really good story driven games.
Would be great for them to be in a position of going back to some of those games. Would be all over a new Fighters Megamix.

I just noticed that out of the three editions of Diablo 4 on Xbox, only the £100 “Ultimate Edition” has the label for “Series X/S Optimized”. That label is a stand-in for current gen vs. last gen, or sometimes for “we added 4k textures”.
All versions contain the same base game- but whether it’s a genuine mistake or dodgy marketing, that’s proper seedy and I’m surprised it hasn’t been picked up by gaming outlets.
Kind of tied into my point earlier about gaming enthusiasts vs. casuals - everyone here would see that and go “OBVIOUSLY it’s the same game in all 3 editions” but I bet there’s plenty of people out there who saw the Series S/X label on the most expensive one and thought “I guess I have to buy that one to get the best looking game for my console”

Unless they’ve fixed it already. Either way, even if it’s only on the console store I think it’s dodgy. If it had been the other way around and the label was only on the standard edition they’d have noticed and fixed it pronto. |

And anyway, saying it’s *for* Xbox Series X/S is not the same as saying it’s *optimised for*. That has a very specific meaning about relative performance/resolution.

Really, it should be made clear from the console store. You shouldn’t need to look through the web browser to get all the details.

Yeah, it's an abomination of a store. The PS5 one ain't great, and the Switch one is slow as fuck, but the XBOX one just wants to piss you off. Especially if there's more than one edition of a game.

Some interesting lines in here from Jim Sony, including that publishers dislike Game Pass as it corrodes vale, that Game Pass loses a fortune to try and ruin the competition. He’s obviously biased, but I don’t think he’s lying, either. The article writer mention that PS++ is essentially the same thing, but Sony don’t appear to have a strategy to release AAA new games on… is it Extra? ++, anyway. I don’t even like Sony’s version of it and it’s caused value conundrums in me. Eg, recently they had a sale and I could have paid $20-ish to get ++ for the rest of the year. There’s about six games on it I’d like to check out. But I don’t like being locked into a limited timeframe (I’m slow af with even STARTING game let alone finishing) but now the cost of those games is up against $20. If Switch had the Virtual Console games Wii U did I’d have been all over it. If Wii U had been portable, I’d have been all over that.
