From a business case sense not all games will be exclusive, they're not that stupid about leaving all that money on the table. I can see Activision having more games stay MP than Bethesda. COD, Diablo and Overwatch will definitely stay MP IMO. I would say Crash Bandicoot as well because of how well the trilogy and last game did on PS and Switch. I have it on good authority though that this deal is simply so MS can make Blur 2. I think they're going to make Crash their exclusive platforming mascot in a "Banjo was literally RIGHT THERE" mode of thinking.

I don’t think Bethesda had ANY games stay multi-platform.

Seems they are all available on pc and Xbox.
Ms will leave call of duty on all platforms and that's all Activision make. King make mobile stuff so that's irrelevant. Blizzard games will be on a case by case basis I imagine.

Maybe they can have 1 studio making Crash, Banjo, Spyro and so on games. If this goes through MS should do it's own Kart racer or brawler game. Will have more than enough IPs to work with.

Whilst I think the main reasoning for the purchase was King and bolstering MS's mobile offering, with CoD/WoW/Overwatch a very sweet cherry on top for hardcore gaming moolah, I do also think there's a desire to bring back some of the smaller titles Acti has more or less abandoned. I think we'll definitely see more Crash and Spyro, a new Tony Hawk's, probably Pitfall, maybe even Guitar Hero in some capacity. Smaller "AA"-type games but the kind of really nice things to have pop up on Game Pass.

Given that MS have released *checks notes* the better part of FUCK ALL for years, your confidence in them magically being able to start churning out all those beloved franchises might be misplaced. Don't get me wrong, I want that to be the case but these fuckers can barely release games for the franchises they already have.

I’d love that to be the case, but I think Microsoft will quite brutally assess everything based on whether or not it sells Gamepass subscriptions. That definitely makes the back catalogue valuable to them, and Games-As-A-Service stuff like CoD and Overwatch will get pushed, and maybe there’s a decent market for kid-friendly games like Crash Bandicoot, but I’m not sure I see much more than a half-hearted effort going into reviving old dormant franchises. I have even less hope for the prospect of new IP being created. Xbox has basically been the home of Halo, Gears and Forza for three console generations, with comparatively little from first party studios to shake things up.

I don't see Hi-Fi Rush and Pentiment getting released if MS looks at things brutally. They are also happy to take sales from Steam now. Fable and Perfect Dark are coming back and Sea of Thieves is now one of its biggest IPs. Toys for Bob are probably the ideal mascot style game developer the will soon have. And again Blur 2

In response to Phattso
You mean games or series like Halo, Forza, Grounded, Ori, Gears, Pentiment, Ages of Empires, As Dusk Falls, Psychonauts 2, Flight Simulator... all that they have published in the last couple of years?
The release schedule hasn't been the speediest from them, but you can't really say they have released fuck all, particularly when you compare to Sony. I imagine Switch only owners would love a similar number of Nintendo published games!
There is also a wide range of classic franchises, as well as new series, coming out from them. I don't think it is unreasonable to suggest they would likely get teams working on bringing back old franchise's, particularly ones like Crash and Tony Hawk's that have had modern successes proving there is appetite for them.

That's a really small list, dude. Halo Infinite was a joke (much as I enjoyed it). Gears had some small DLC and that's it. Psychonauts was an acquisition and was already in flight.
Where's my Series X Gears? Where's Forza (mainline)? Where's Perfect Dark? Where's Banjo? Where's Viva Pinata? Where's any of the other dozen IPs they've used before or teased are coming?
It's a drip feed at best. Given their scope and scale they should be fucking embarrassing the other platforms, and they're not.

I think they are very hands-off, and largely leave devs to build the things they build. That's good when devs are solid at producing their stuff (Playground, Turn 10, Coalition) and a bit shit when they can't (343), but it also means that I don't think you'll see them delving into the catalogues to bring things back - they'll just approve titles that studios want to do as long as the titles support their business models.

Gears Tactics came out in 2020. I saw Gears 5 coming out around the same time, but must have been a re-release for Series X and S. My bad.
My list wasn't exhaustive, more showing the range of stuff being published, as well as the quantity. There are classic franchises that haven't had release for a while (like Ages of Empires and Flight Sim, also Wastelands), on going franchises (Halo and Forza Horizon), off shoots of franchises (Gears Tactics), new IPs (Grounded) and indie games (Ori and As Dusk Falls). It does show a willingness to experiment and dig into some back catalogues.
Maybe not things you personally want, but definitely a wide range.
In terms of quantity, I think you can only judge how much they are releasing compared to the other big publishers, particularly with the upset that they will have gone through with the pandemic. I would say, compared to Sony, they are at about the same pace and may even be releasing more.

I think the Sony comparison does them no favours, because M&S are churning out stuff at a much lower scale.
I'm delighted that some older franchises are getting brought back, and I adored Flight Sim, but I've owned a Series X for years now and the pickings are exceptionally slim. Not much better on PS5, but the relative level of quality and scope is higher. MS haven't put out something with the same craft and quality as GT7. Hopefully Forza resolves that, but it's still 8 months away as a minimum. Starfield gets me excited, but that's on double digits of delays and pushbacks now it feels like.
It's all moot now that Diablo 4 is here anyway. It's the One True Game.

(also worth pointing out that half of your non exhaustive list was acquisitions - i.e. games already practically done when they gobbled up the firm, so I don't think we can credit MS with much of that)

Hopefully they leave the conversion alone. Hopefully. I actually wish I didn't stack the full 3 years now, because now I have to wait till March 2025 to do it again, by which time the conversion trick may not exist. Might have been better doing it annually, then if Microsoft announce they're stopping the Gold conversion, stacking 3 years at that point. Still, can always top up on cheap GPU codes, although they're becoming less frequently available.

If and when they announce they're stopping it, you could stack codes and convert them on another account, and set the "Home Console" on that account accordingly and continue using Game Pass that way via your normal Gamertag. Depends on how much Ultimate you have left and how much you stand to save mind you, but it's an option if the inevitable happens and it's a few months from your current setup expiring.

Because they want those mid-range, AA "filler" games (I'm on about scope and scale here, not quality) that are perfect for Game Pass. In fact, you could say these things - whether wholly first-party or third-party acquisitions that have GP exclusivity - are MS's bread and butter at the moment, because their AAA first-party schedule is very slow. Off the top of my head, Ori, Hi-Fi, Pentiment, The Gunk (or whatever it's called), High on Life, Age of Empire remasters, even (arguably) Crackdown... that tier of game I think is perfect for some of Acti's back catalogue.

I don't know if, statistically speaking, Microsoft have released more games than Nintendo in recent years, but it certainly doesn't feel that way. Not remotely.
I've actively had to overlook some 1st party stuff on Switch because of the lack of time/money. On Xbox I don't even know what my next game will be, let alone when.

Last year was probably the only real weak year for MS number of games released wise?
Nintendo are in the great position of being able to take years between each sequel due to the last one having very long legs.

Playground Games who make the Forza Horizon series rose from the ashes by Bizarre Creations once Activision closed them down after the poorly received, but amazing Blur and an underselling James Bond tie-in.
Playground then became a thing after a group of ex Bizarre Creations, Codemasters and Criterion devs decided to do their own thing.
Also to make everyone feel old, the original Project Gotham Racing was released 21 years ago!
