Gone for it. It does take a while to get itself sorted, doesn't it?

Gone for it. It does take a while to get itself sorted, doesn't it? Do you mean the download, or letting you get into the game proper?

Been awhile since I played it but isn't the first scene a big boss fight?

No, there is a bit before that with the hunting and such.

Cory Barlog knows how to kick off a game with a bang. God of War 2 (PS2) had that big Colossus of Rhodes fight too.

3 had you scaling a colossus at the start too, that was possibly my favourite opening to a game ever. The sense of scale was amazing.

Well, it looks fantastic and I'm already liking the combat. Took down the big scary monster with only one death. It reminded me of the start of the Blood and Wine dlc for Witcher 3, in fact. I think I'm going to enjoy this.

Combat gets better as the game goes along too.

You will fight a good few of those along your way Sarafin, it's one of the most valid criticisms of the game, that enemy variety is low. It didn't bother me in particular though.

Oh I don't mind fighting more of those, I was just hoping that was the boss fight that someone mentioned further up.

Combat gets better as the game goes along too. Yeah I've fired up NG+, become thoroughly confused and gone back to a fresh playthrough

To my thinking, the intro (cutting the tree) is one of the best game openings ever. Sets the tone so well. The way it develops from the hunt, then the journey... rarely have I felt so taken with game so quickly. The Dark Elves can fuck off, though

To my thinking, the intro (cutting the tree) is one of the best game openings ever. That segue from the title screen was a 'wow' moment. Agreed on your spoiler. I'd forgotten about them. Didn't go in for the endgame/postgame areas much either. I liked the ideas but I was a bit burned out by that point and my WoW guild was getting antsy about me getting back to play TBC

Yeah, it was. I think the production polish is right up there.
I did some of the post endgame stuff - which is incredibly rare for me. But fuck Niflheim.

I got home. Here's the thing. I hate boss battles. I'm terrible at boss battles. Dark Souls can fuck right off. But this game has two boss battles in the first hour (I was going to say half hour but steam says I've already played for 93 minutes) and they both felt manageable, enjoyable even (and I'm playing on normal difficulty). That is basically witchcraft as far as I'm concerned.

The HDR is poppin' on the ps5. Poppin' As long as the textures don't pop in.

That's not a ratio that carries on throughout the game though, if anything there isn't as many as people were used to. In the games based in Greece there were loads of boss fights (most of them similar to the stranger that you just fought).

The opening of GoW and the opening of Horizon Zero Dawn have completely merged in my head. They’re really similar.

I'm enjoying beating the crap out of those skeleton blokes as well.

The PSP games were pretty decent too.
Think the only one I haven't really played is Ascension, which just sat on the shelf unplayed for whatever reason. Might have to dig that one out of the attic.
Would be cool if the rumoured PS3 back compatibility happens, although I somehow doubt they'll make it as slick as just popping a disc in and playing.
