The "few games" that control and feel as great is the bit. DS has good combat but it's nowhere near the be all and end all of well designed controls or combat. The bow controls in DS are actually atrocious and still are in DS3. Nioh's bow controls put From to shame So, you have issues with "few games" but can name a grand total of 2? Well no, I didn't really prepare a list. Off the top of my head
Nioh Bayo Ninja Gaiden DmC Hollow Knight

I never got on with Godhand. I always felt like I was swinging at nothing. You had to be precise with lining up your attacks.
Madworld did that third person over the shoulder brawler much better IMO, but it was also some wacky Wiimote nonsense so opinions on its controls will vary.

Can I stop now. ARE YOU SATED Meh, Bayonetta et al are fun but pretty different games, the satisfaction of a deep backstab, the solid clang of sword hitting shield etc. you miss. Fair enough on Nioh but it's basically just a copy of Souls games.

I bought Dark Souls for my girlfriend's cocky son who could "beat everything". Apart from Dark Souls it turned out.
I had a go and asked what to do (and thus made the same mistake he apparently did) and killed two skeletons and then ended up at a boss in a courtyard. About an hour later, I was a shaking wreck, but the boss was dead and neither of us ever played it again.
Seems there's another passage you should go down which gives you easier monsters and weapons and such before you got that boss, but who knew. I'd love to like it, but I've always been told it's rock hard, so have never returned.
Can't say I trust any company, but Nintendo is the I've that gets it right most. I like ubisoft games but not the store mechanism they have in them now.

@spookyxelectric Not 100% sure they are - if they were a subsidiary, they wouldn't be doing stuff under different publishers? en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grove_Street_GamesLooks like the reason they were given the gig was because of all the android/ios ports. Edit, I think the name is just a coincidence: "War Drum Studios rebranded as Grove Street Games, adopting the name of Gainesville's Grove Street neighborhood in which the company was based."

Fair enough on Nioh but it's basically just a copy of Souls games. Bit pointless if you just turn around and say you don't like them. Nioh does a fair bit to set itself apart, the combat is quite a bit different
Basically you're saying, which was my original point, 'I like Dark Souls so I'm just going to say it's better than everything else'
edit: you didn't actually say you don't like Bayo and that but they're all actions games that are known for their very good combat. If you'd said 3D actions games in a faux medieval setting with clanging, then yes, DS is probably fairly unique in that regard

No, I said 'few games that control and "feel" as great as they do'.

Tidied up my posts. I think DS are great games but it's a pet peeve how they're generally lauded by the cult
"Feel" is entirely subjective. Again, there are a ton of games with great game feel but this isn't a thread about that. If you want to have a fight about it, start one

I hesitate to use the word “trust”, but certain developers consistently exhilarate me, and rarely disappoint. And they’re pretty much all indie developers, or had their start in that area of the industry.
Subset Games, Klei Entertainment, Supergiant Games, Suspicious Developments…they’ve all produced some of my all-time favourite games, and continue to do so. I also love Devolver Digital as a publisher, just for introducing so many similarly small, talented indie developers. I am definitely more optimistic about anything by indie developers of such calibre.
As far as big names go, Platinum Games, Housemarque (I’d love to play Nex Machina, Alienation, Resogun on a handheld someday), From Software. Platinum has released some stinkers, but I forgive them just due to Vanquish and Bayonetta 1/2. In terms of “trust”, Housemarque would have mine in this category.
My hot, edgy take is that Team Ninja is better than From Software, and Nioh 1/2 are better souls-like games overall than anything that From have released thus far, with the possible exception of Sekiro. Elden Ring might change that, though.

Resogun was available on Vita, if you have one in storage somewhere. And if I remember correctly, it was free as well.

Unfortunately, no. Was thinking more steam deck or switch, like a Housemarque collection, minus Returnal of course.
EDIT: haven’t played Returnal, but am sure I would love it. My meaning was their arcade-y back catalogue, in a compilation suited for handheld play.

Yeah, figured you meant Switch, really. Unlikely there'll be a collection on other platforms now that they're a Sony studio though.

It’s fine. I’ll just stalk and assume the identity of someone who successfully pre-orders Sony’s next handheld. My time is coming.

I'd argue Nintendo has made some mediocre games lately so I definitely dont think its just down to taste (Paper Mario, sport games, Mario Party Switch). I feel the Wii u ports are also hiding the fact that their output number wise been terrible for years now. I do not count Monolith and Mercury Stream studio's (so no metroid dread or Xenoblade games). I once trusted CDPR and fell for cyberpunk because of my love for the Witcher franchise. But honestly lately I only trust FROM to a certain extent. Dark Souls 3 was their biggest disappointment for me personally. I think most of those (eg. Mario Party, some of the sports games) are only kind of developed by Nintendo? Like it's a second-party thing done by a developer they own, though I guess the line can be pretty hazy. But they own Monolith Soft too, so I don't know how one could include Mario Party as "Nintendo" but exclude Xenoblade. But either way it's not a series that interests me, so I can't really speak to the quality of any of the Mario Parties. I admit that was a bit inconsistent from me. Still, I checked games released by nintendo past 3 years, and besides metroid dread, nothing that came out was great. It took animal crossing almost 2 years to reach its 3DS level. As a Wii-U owner I am a bit salty about all the ports and people who glamour for them like they are new games. Maybe it has clouded my judgement a bit towards nintendo for the past couple years.

Trust is probably too strong a word but From and Platinum seem extremely reliable.
