I've been playing this with the lad, who's 7. He's seen me playing Mario 64 on the All Stars Collection, but has no real attachment to it. He was watching me play single player and had a vauge interest, hoever when I told him we could play 2 player we ended up on it for nearly 2 hours knocking shit of of each other. It may look dated as anything but the old girl's still got it.

You can't buy it seperately on Xbox either. Not entirely sure why its subscription based, but I can definitely see it being removed from both services eventually. It’s been added into Rare Replay, which is £4 at Cex.

It's only been added to the digital version of Rare Replay though, I believe.

Also, its unplayable on Switch. Absolutely unplayable. That wasn't tested. At all.

From what I've read you just need to remap the controls, then it's all dandy.

I spent ages trying to get something to work. Went through every setting. It doesn't help I used to play the original with my arms crossed over, but I can't do that.
The closest I can do is with the Joycon in the opposite hands, but that writes off portable play for me.
The Switch has always been my primary console, but I'll be sticking with the Xbox version of this one, for sure.

Have you tried this: Stock control options aren't great. But I created a mapping set, swapping the sticks and changing the trigger to ZR. Then in game using Control 1.2. It feels quite nice now same thing is explained in this video at the 1 minute mark: Switch version looks nice. 30fps dropping to 16fps sometimes. 16fps in multiplayer apparently. Video also has some pointers for changing the controls to be more modern I don't have the Online Expansion Pass, so I think it's a moot point though for me.

I take it back, Goldeneye is shit.
Stuck on hardest difficulty on Bunker 2 by what appears to be infinitely spawning enemies.
How the fuck did I complete this as a 13 year old? Did I complete it?
My childhood was a lie.

Bill in the rain To be honest, I don't want to go to all that effort for one game, because I swap between games more frequently on Switch as it is. Its just too much for me.

My childhood was a lie. One of my favourite maps. I'm pretty sure you'll already know but remember to use the throwing knives for those first stealth kills. Should keep the reinforcements from spawning in. Also, leave Natalya in her cell until you've done everything else

Done it, didn't help that I was running around as if it was a doom level.

Bunker 2 is probably the most difficult level on OO Agent after Aztec and Control. A genuine achievement. I personally found Aztec to be the single hardest stage in anything I have ever played. Castlevania and Dark Souls included.

I am exactly half way through the campaign now. I'm playing 00 Agent, but replaying some levels on easier difficulties to unlock all the cheats.
It's definitely easier to play this version than the original. Aiming is better, the character accelerates into a sprint after a short time, etc...
Still, its weird how much of this game is drilled into my head. I did the Frigate level on my first attempt and instinctively followed the same route I used to as a kid, so I didn't forget any hostages, miss the bombs or the helicopter. On my second run through for the cheat I was nearly a minute and a half under the target time.
I hope I'm still chanelling this power at the end of the game.

Just got to Frigate, also working my way through it on 00 Agent.
It's a weird compliement but I love how small the levels are - I can refresh my memory of them on Agent difficulty before taking a crack at them on higher difficulties without getting completely burned out.

This might be nostalgic bias, but I think this might be my favourite single player FPS campaign ever. Not that I've played all that many, but I'd rate it above the Half Life games, Call of Duty, Doom, etc...
The objective based design is way more interesting than a cinematic corrdior.

Up to Control on my 00 Agent run and I've hit my first brick wall. Natalia is just getting shredded in seconds. I'm just not quick enough and I swear some units are just coming through the lower level glass.
Will have to bunker down and make an evening of this level, I think.

I'd read that you want to keep the glass intact so they can only come down the stairs or break through the glass at the end, it's RNG too so sometimes you might be lucky and just get a few.
Now Aztec on 00 agent can do one, can beat Jaws but then the swarm of enemies after are just too much.

I remembered that from back in the day, actually. Got my mines set up, but wont detonate them until the final escape.
But yeah, that level has brought me to a halt at the moment. I was fearing Aztec, so completely forgot about how tricky Control is.
At least I'm not taking much damage. Just need to be quicker and better positioned.

I always place the mines on the 5 terminals and place 4 around the ground floor behind the glass.
After a while when enemies have been flooding in from up top I set them off. If you can see them coming you can take them out, otherwise it's a crapshoot as to wether you'll get that one guard who with one clip can take out the glass and Natalya in 3 seconds...
Also I've found positioning yourself in a worse vantage point means enemies will more likely attack you instead of Natalya...

Good call, actually. If the glass is gone, that might draw more attention to me. I'll experiment with that this week.
On a seperate note; I just found out that Xbox tracks the number of attempts you make on Facility on 00 Agent. That's obviously a tracker for unlocking the cheat, which has taken me 28 attempts so far, with no luck. I've come within 6 seconds of the target time, twice. Haha

Facility and Statue Park both require some help from the RNG as well. I remember back in the day running (or strafing rather) through and restarting the mission if Doak wasn't in that small hallway next to the laboratories at the end.

I'm on Mission 5 (Severnaya) and had totally wiped it from my memory. Outdoors, infinite spawning enemies, and the key's on some random chap in one of the identikit huts. Then I fucked up and threw the remote mine underneath the chopper. Then I activated the radio instead of blowing it up (I presume? It's been 25 years!)

Haha. Yeah, you got to destroy that machine. I'm not sure why it lets you turn it on as well.

Snake Yeah, that random black box drop can cost you the couple of seconds you need to clear the target time. Fortunately not too many tries on that one. The Facility, on the other hand, is much harder. I've obviously forgotten how to do the opening section quickly as when I find Dr. Doak in the right area, I'm just a few seconds too slow. I need to get to that computer and unlock the door without the keycard and without those crazy soldiers blowing it up. A balancing act I've yet to remaster.

Had to finish the game on Secret Agent for the time being as Control is just killing me. So close, but if Natalia gets shot at even once, its over.
I did manage to beat Aztec on Secret Agent and unlocked all the cheats up until that point though.
I'm just gonna have to keep chipping away at 00 Agent Control, just like the old days.
Edit - Actually, a single pause for a cuppa and I beat it on my very next try. Also beat Caverns and Cradle on 00 Agent immediately after! Woo.

I finally got hold of this and you weren't kidding about the controls being nuts. I couldn't be bothered with remapping the controls for the entire switch, just for one game, so I'm playing with the joycons in the wrong hands, which works pretty well except the zoom button is a bit uncomfortable. (control scheme 1-2)
Really, the N64 emulator should have control mapping built in.
Game is as good as I remember, though playing in Japanese makes working out some of the objectives a bit tricky. And it's a game that'll apparently fail you at the end of the mission if you haven't completed all your objectives.
PS/ Out of interest, what age rating is it over there? Here it's weirdly rated 18+ so they've released a separate 18+ N64 emulator with only 2 games. Is that universal?

Just in Japan. I don’t fully understand why, but I know it has something to do with not mixing adult rates products with lower rated stuff.

That kinda makes sense (though it'd be better if the emulator apps had age ratings built in). I already had to whitelist the regular N64 emulator in the parental controls, as apparently for some reason it's rated higher than they're set to. Can't see any games in there that look particularly violent or dodgy. But Goldeneye being rated 18+ just seems very odd to me. I guess it and the movie were cert 15 in the UK, and it does have blood, but the graphics and violence were never remotely realistic, even at the time.
[edit] Nope, imdb is wrong I think. The movie was cert 12. Not sure if they're wrong about the game too now...
