Stock control options aren't great. But I created a mapping set, swapping the sticks and changing the trigger to ZR.
Then in game using Control 1.2.
It feels quite nice now

I never played this when it did the rounds. Is it worth me picking it up now, or will it be a pixelated mess for me as I don't have the nostalgia bit?

The fact the Xbox version isn't the unreleased XBLA remaster (or a version of it) had completely passed me by, even though looking back in this thread it had been previously mentioned.
So I got quite the surprise when I booted this up this morning to be confronted with 30fps AND occasional slowdown.
Took the wind out of my sails a bit if I'm honest. This is blatantly running via some sort of emulator, not running natively at all I'd wager.
Controls and plays well enough, it's Goldeneye at the end of the day, but really annoying knowing the jazzed XBLA version is sitting on a server somewhere unable to be released.

This has to be an MGM issue. Neither Microsoft or Nintendo are seemingly able to sell it and any modifications to the game are being done via emulation, so the game itself is untouched.
It's exactly what I expected, to be honest. Just wish Nintendo had sorted out button mapping on a per-game basis on the N64 app.

Still annoying, as the Perfect Dark port showed that they could get a N64 game running on the Xbox 360 at 1080p60, with MSAA4X on top for good measure.
But yeah, emulation is what it is. Conker and the other Rare Replay games were also much more limited in scope.

I'd love to know what the rights issue actually is and who's refusing to budge.
A jazzed up re-release with decent online multiplayer seems like a no brainer.
It's like someone is allergic to printing money.

Just had a quick blast on Dam on Series X. It plays really well mapped to a modern pad, but it's not exactly what I'd call a smooth, consistent frame rate, but far better than the N64 version of course. It seems to me it's running between 40-50FPS, but with very inconsistent frame delivery.
Also a shame they didn't update the font with a new asset. Most of the text is bluuuuuuury when blown up to whatever resolution this is running at on Series X.
Also, I'm getting black borders top and bottom, but the bottom border is a lot bigger. My TV has no overscan enabled, so it should have 1-to-1 pixel mapping. I'm going to have to piss around with the Series X resolution / VRR settings, aren't I?

The font has always looked a bit rough on emulators. Anyone playing on the switch and can say how the controls are? Seems they need to be remapped as chuchurkt said.
The SwitchUP video on the previous page also shows how to remap the controls and talks about how it feels.

It's also sitting on a lot of hard drives, given that it was leaked. If you have a PC you can probably play it. Though I assume multiplayer won't work on the leaked version. Never tried.

I forgot how random the auto aim is. This game is screaming out for a mouse+kb PC version.

Did the Pal version have borders? I believe it did, but they weren't huge like some N64 games. What's strange is that the bottom border is thicker than the top border. The game is definitely stretched beyond the original 4:3 (although you can still select 4:3 and cinema widescreen in the options) but that doesn't explain why the image isn't centered vertically.

Well free via Gamepass or having the digital copy of Rare Replay.
Cheat codes don't work on Xbox

Just wish Nintendo had sorted out button mapping on a per-game basis on the N64 app. From what I read EON the actual holders of the licence had no issue at all, apparently it's because of Nintendo who published it in the first place they get a say over what version gets released and apparently nixxed the revamped version because Nintendo wanted parity and not two different versions out there so everyone's left with the vaseline version.

If that's true then why can't they just release the XBLA version on Switch? Surely it'd run fine.
I had hoped that when Amazon bought MGM they'd sort out all the rights issues with GoldenEye but maybe that's a pipe dream. Or maybe the only reason we're getting this emulation is because Jeff Bezos cracked some skulls, who knows?

Rumor was that Satoru Iwata was blocking it for a while saying Goldeneye should only be allowed on Nintendo consoles. But yeah if they can get this version out surely they could release the remake instead?
But then it's also been reported Nintendo was the reason this took so long to come out due to the war in Ukraine due to the Russians in the game.

I forgot about the Russians and their little Napoleon hats. I presume they are supposed to be berets… Sensing that slowdown. Running through Dam and Facility (or should it be Felicity) is like muscle memory.

One of those games that's prob best left to memories haha. Shame the n64 games are so rough. Not helped by the iffy controls.

I haven't tried the Switch version yet, but you can no longer run faster by straffing. I can't tell if they've increased movement speed generally, to compensate, or if the frame rate makes it feel that way. Either way, I do know it feels like it takes forever to cross the dam now.
Also, zooming with the rifle and moving are the same input, so expect to find yourself somewhere else from where you started when sniping people.

Is there a way to use the right buttons as the "c buttons" and the left stick as the analogue direction?

I think thats kinda how the Switch version works. The right stick is the C buttons.
