Been confirmed it's N64 version and not the leaked 360 one. Oh. That's a bit rubbish.

I'm fine with the Xbox version having no online MP. There's nothing like being in the same room when your mate gets exploded by one of the many proximity mines I planted.
Edit: I wonder if Limited Run with do a special edition.

Surely nobody actually wants this? Great game at the time but not good to play by modern standard.
I guess with both consoles it's part of a sub so no big deal but it just strikes me as the type of thing people think they want but actually don't

Strikes me as the sort of thing to get excited about for nostalgic reasons before forgetting about after one multiplayer session.

Goldeneye is a stone cold classic. Obviously the MP was the highlight, but it had a cool objective based story campaign too.

The game won't have aged overly well and fos games have come a long way since then. Probably better to keep your fond memories This will always be the case. Even with the fancy new Xbox version, it’s still fundamentally an ancient game that the vast majority of people will play a bit as a curio and then go about their business. Not to go all PC Master Race, but 60fps and modern controller support have been available through emulation for ages, and it doesn’t make the game any less clunky compared to modern games. Nice to have it, though. If we do want to go all PC Master Race, we would have to also acknowledge that even for its time it was a bit arse compared to what was happening on PC. It was released a year after Quake and a year before Half Life. Doesn't stop Facility with proximity mines still being some of the most fun you can have with games and I imagine that will still be the case.

I absolutely rinsed and loved both Golden eye and perfect dark both single and multiplayer. I have particularly fond memories of pd multiplayer with my friends and cousins but I know that it just wouldn't hold my interest now for anything more than a brief hit of nostalgia. I accept and agree with it's all timer status but it's massively "of a time" as opposed to something like OOT which still plays really well.

I think it could still be fun for some couch co-op, but I think you'd probably have to have some nostalgia for the original. The control scheme is a bit weird these days.
Do you need a subscription to get it? You can't just buy it?
-- Relative to the PC games of the time, I think it had different strengths. I was playing it at the same time as Jedi Knight, and I love them both, but they were very different games. Imho, Goldeneye was a valiant attempt to adapt FPS games to match the limitations of console controllers. Don't forget, the n64 was near enough the first console to have an analogue stick, but it only had one. Dual analogue controls didn't come along until the next year, and even then it took a few years to work out how to get FPS games to control well. (Halo being the first to really nail it imho). Whereas the controls on PC had basically been nailed since Quake. I used to joke that on Jedi Knight or Quake I could jump off a ledge, spin in mid air and shoot an enemy while in the air falling onto a lower ledge. Whereas in Goldeneye I couldn't even jump over a 1m gap. But goldeneye was more about slow movement and targeting body parts, and had a bunch of innovative stuff in it that Quake or Jedi Knight didn't have.

'trying to bring back the Goldeneye feel' is being very polite 😄

Looked good in the trailer. Interested to fire loads of rockets in split screen mode to test the frame rate.

Yeah looks better than I thought it would.
Still sucks the remake isn't the one getting released.

I'm amazed they are only releasing this as either Game Pass or Rare Replay DLC. You'd think they wouldn't miss the chance to make it a standalone download.
There is no online, anyway.

Yeah they mentioned it would be free to anyone with RR when it was announced. I'm guessing as a sorry it won't have online play move.

Wait, so the Switch one has online multiplayer but the Xbox one doesn’t? Are we in Bizarro World? If they aren’t the same, why isn’t Xbox using the cancelled 360 remaster? The work was already done, they just needed to make it Series X native.

I think they are the same for the most part - it's just the Switch is doing online play via the N64 emulator (similar to Mario Kart 64), meaning that you'll still have to share a screen as it's emulating split screen, not true online.
Really wish we could get the XBLA remaster, ah well.

Yeah it's annoying.
Be great if MS/Nintendo and whoever controls the rights can get that version released. Clear MS would have 0 issue putting it on Switch as well.

I bought it on disk then got a free digital copy from watching a MS event on Mixer years ago.
But I'm sure it will be on sale as well. They always only mention games being on GP rather than on GP and available for *insert price*
It made the Yakuza announcements confusing as it sounded like it would only be available via GP.
