It's believed Iwata was against it saying it should only appear on Nintendo consoles.
But I've read mixed articles on this some saying that's not true and it was rights issues.

I had heard that Nintendo had no say in the matter seeing they were only the publisher and that it was actually EON who had the issue because at the time Daniel Craig had just been announced and therefore his likeness had to be in the games and subsequently it led to Activision publishing Goldeneye reboot on the Wii initially.

Yeah this is silly, given the game's age I really don't think anyone is going to give a toss. Ironically this nonsensical delay is probably drawing more attention to the situation than just releasing it would have.

Seems the Switch online is a standard feature of the emulator, it emulates each player as one controller on a game, so each player will get four player split screen. A quarter of a 7” screen. Fun.

The game won't have aged overly well and fos games have come a long way since then. Probably better to keep your fond memories

Even with the fancy new Xbox version, it’s still fundamentally an ancient game that the vast majority of people will play a bit as a curio and then go about their business. Not to go all PC Master Race, but 60fps and modern controller support have been available through emulation for ages, and it doesn’t make the game any less clunky compared to modern games. Nice to have it, though. |

I want to say, though, that maybe I just don't like Rare's brand of shooters.
I mean, Turok came out more or less as the same time, and I can still enjoy it just fine (...just not with that N64 controller).
