New thread for next year.
I very much doubt I'll finish anything else this year so looks like I will finish on 36. Think I did 72 last year so half! But this year I have moved country and completed a lot of industry exams so has been a really good year.
Completed 1 on Vita, 6 on Switch, 2 on Series S and the rest on PS4/5. Should get a good spread next year including Steam as I'm 40 hours into Trails in the Sky which would represent the first PC game I've completed...well ever as you can't really complete Championship/Football Manager!

Guessing my year is finished with 45 titles finished. A new record but I really thought I would have managed to get 52 this year but a gaming lull in summer, more work hours in autumn and COVID isolation keeping me away from TV for last week led to this.
Stats:
PC 31 PS4 7 Switch 3 DS 3 Vita 1
Which is surprisingly high for PC and low for Switch. Hopefully next year will be better.

I finished the year on 40 which is my highest total somehow, despite multiple stressful things happening in 2021.
Series S: 23 PS4: 1 Switch: 3 PC: 12 Wii: 1
25 of the games I completed in 2021 were via Gamepass (split across Xbox/PC) so definitely feel like I got my money's worth for that.

For me it was 54. The breakup:
Series S (including back compat all the way down to OG Xbox): 27 PC: 24 Android: 1 PS1 (on PC emulator): 1 Switch: 1
Of these, 24 games were available thanks to Game Pass, Xbox Gold, Amazon Prime, or any other free or subscription-enabled method.
This year, I will try to finish an Xbox 360 game on an actual 360 again.

I have a few PS3 games I hope to finish on real hardware this year too (Dead Souls, Kenzan and the God of War remasters) Current first game attempt is on Vita.... May he a long one though... My most obscure one was the FDS title I completed a few years ago while working on the fan translation. I anticipate a middling 30-40 this year for my total though...

...And we are off... 1: Lake (xbox) beat on 03/01/22. 7/10Not bad, probably overstayed its welcome by an hour or two, or maybe I was just trying to push through it to fast. Very much a change of pace from Chainsawing everything on screen! I did enjoy the relaxed nature of driving around, delivering mail and trying to reconnect with people from "my old town" that really is it. The video shop you deliver to has some great alternative titles for films many old bastards on here would have watched and loved in the 1980's, (not me, I'm far too young ) game is set in 1986.

We begin.
01. 04/01 - Garage: Bad Dream Adventure (Android) - 7/10
Starts great, but the second half is basically one big fetch quest, and sometimes it's hard to tell what is truly meaningful and what is just the author regurgitating dramatic-sounding concepts.

I've somehow managed to get 2 completions already, but that's mainly because they were both around 90% done at the start of the year.
1. The Surge 2 9/10 2. Assemble with Care 7/10

I have been debating whether to buy this or not... Honestly, I'd go for it. The majority of the game is quite good, the fishing is pretty fun for a while, and when the writing hits, it really hits. The imagery and soundtrack deserves a mention too. The resource system (think Moon, but not as oppressive) and upgrades in the first half are a nice diversion from the endless walking around too. It can be a little obscure, especially until you learn the layout, but it does explain its mechanics fairly well. I never had to use a guide (not even sure if there's one around). It's fairly long, took me 13 hours including a lot of padding, but I'd say it deserves a look. I even found myself caring about some of the characters, pretty rare for an adventure game for me.

And we're off!
#1 - 05/01 - Dark Souls Remastered (PS4/5)
What a game to kick the year off with! So pleased I've finally beaten it, think I've bought the game three times. Split my time pretty evenly over PS4 and 5 which was handy.
I'm probably half an hour away from finishing Danganronpa on Switch too so should be another one for tomorrow!

#1 - 05/01 - Dark Souls Remastered (PS4/5) #2 - 06/01 - Danganronpa (Switch)
Third time I've completed it now and have to say, one of my favourite games and series ever. The story, atmosphere, soundtrack, its just fucking incredible. Immediately started 2 (which will also be my third playthrough). Even knowing roughly what happens doesn't diminish it.
I'm also about 2/3rds of the way through Guardians of the Galaxy on PS5 so hopefully can get that polished off in the near future, got some horrendous exams I need to study for so would like to get these off the list to focus on that (with Switch games being my downtime).

Unremarkable, really. Probably more interesting for big Sonic fans, but I've only played a handful of titles.

#1 - 05/01 - Dark Souls Remastered (PS4/5) #2 - 06/01 - Danganronpa (Switch) #3 - 08/01 - Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy (PS5) Platinum
Excellent game, definitely do still love a story focused linear game. Story and writing absolute top notch, laughed out loud many times!
Got Danganronpa 2 on the go now on Switch and think I'm gonna go back to Yakuza 5 to push that along some more.

Basically an early walking simulator, but one that works well enough thanks to its visual design.

1:Lake (xbox) beat on 03/01/22. 7/10 2: Guardians of the Galaxy (xbox) beat on 09/01/22. 10/10 Loved it from the intro to post credits. Looks lovely on the series x. Played on "performance" mode. I did have some serious slow down for many chapters though, only from chapter 9 on though ? not too sure what that was all about. The story and interactions between you (StarLord/DuffLord ) and your crew are excellent. Issuing commands to the other 4 Guardians during combat is handled very well and easy to do, with some nice abilities. Such a shame it has already been stated we are not getting DLC, hopefully a sequel at some point in the future will happen though. I have started a NG+ and will likley did into this from time to time, just to see how they are getting on

1. A Plague Tale: Innocence (PS5) (16/1/22) (8/10)
And after having been so close to finishing it for so long finally got some TV time to finish my first game of the year. I really liked the atmosphere and the French 14th Century setting was a nice change from the norm. The rats were quite a cool gimmick although got a little silly as the game went on. The story wasn't too had and I went for French voiceovers (with the side effect of French speaking English soldiers) over English (where I imagine everyone speaking English with a bad French accent, the trailers were bad enough...). Looked very pretty for what I imagine was a AA game. Gameplay had a few frustrating stealth sequences that took too many retries but the atmosphere made up for it so gave it an 8/10 and will be keeping an eye on the sequel. I missed a fair amount of collectibles (guess I got about half) and got 54% trophies.
Currently about halfway through Mary Skelter on Vita and deciding between Guardians of the Galaxy or Beyond a Steel Sky for my TV game (also started Tales of Arise). I don't think I will get a good yearly total this year but we will see...

1. A Plague Tale: Innocence (PS5) (16/1/22) (8/10) 2. Beyond a Steel Sky (PS5) (22/1/22) (8.5/10)
Finally got and played through Beyond a Steel Sky. The art style worked better than it initially looked even if characters can look a little odd but the backgrounds are fairly nice and the game was made by a fairly small team. The story was a nice follow up to the original and works well with its own themes and manages to convey a sense of scale despite the limited locations you would expect in an adventure game. Puzzle are mostly decent although a few were annoying as I hadn't actually potted one of the items (or hack locations) (and it has a semi-decent hint system if you wish to use it). Dialogue remains fun. Voices are a mixed bag but decent enough for what it is. Overall they did a pretty good job of following up the original after such a big gap.
Next, perhaps Spider-Man or Guardians of the Galaxy on the PS5 (or Tales of Arise but the former will be shorter). Also still got Mary Skelter to finish on Vita.

Interesting concept, yawn-worthy execution.

Bloody love Yakuza but would say this was probably the least strong in the series. But still brilliant. Immediately started 6 to try and finish Kiryu's story.

Seeing this reminded me I planned to grab Garage:BDA but it seems to have vanished from the UK Play Store... Seems that it has been temporarily removed. Not sure why. I see it is back but seems to be censored now from what the dev says on Twitter. I wonder if the iOS version had this problem as I would have assumed Apple to be stricter than Google. Also, how bad were the Psych sequences? Would it have been too had for just switching the age rating up a notch? This puts me off bothering with the purchase which surely isn't what they want for such a niche release...

As a matter of fact, if all they wanted to censor was Psyche's nudity, they really missed the point. On the other hand, if that's all that has been censored, then it's not worth passing the game over.
