Mitch McConnel had another of his space-outs when asked if he’d run for the next election, which is the most succinct answer. I like to think that, when questioned about his immediate future like this, in his mind, he sees his immanent death, and the tentacled maw of hell opening before him, flaming tongue beckoning him to join the others who voted against public healthcare. youtu.be/MLcYAy3xOJk?feature=shared

Brilliant. We have the technology to shop McConnel and Trump’s faces in there and edit the scene into his press conferences. Such a video would go so viral Fauci would denounce it.

I'm not sure if that's good or bad. I guess at this point there are very, very few minds left that can be changed.

It's going to be the biggest shitshow the world has ever seen. Like the OJ Simpson trial but far worse. I'm already exhausted.

It's another thing that leads me to believe that there's a lot of thought and preparation gone into this Georgia indictment (which is a good and proper situation). They've looked at the other cases and are cutting off Trump's strategies. He won't be able to act repentant in court, then claim the opposite to his supporters. If he tries to grandstand in court , he'll purger himself.

He won't be able to act repentant in court, then claim the opposite to his supporters. He will do this and they will believe him.
He'll spin it to his advantage " I had to say that in court it because the system is corrupt and they want to take me down"

It's a stupid idea and it won't work. And even if it did stop his name from appearing on the ballots, couldn't people just write it in?

I don't know about its viability, but I disagree that it's a stupid idea - insofar as I'm concerned, the Democrats need to chuck everything at the wall in a bid to stop Trump from winning a second term, and no (legal) idea should be overlooked.

They need to stop him by beating him in a democratic election. Saying "nuh uh, you can't vote for the person you want because we're taking his name off the ballot" is the opposite of democratic, even if was legally possible.
Of course it's not like the guy himself really cares about the democratic process. But that's exactly why it should be valued imo.

Refusing to put his name on the ballot *because he contravened the Constitution's prohibition on insurrectionist behaviour* doesn't seem undemocratic to me (although I do agree with you about the need to value the democratic process).
This isn't some underhanded jiggery-pokery about late registration fees, misfiled paperwork, or any other chicanery designed to circumvent the wishes of American voters - the guy literally incited an insurrection, which the Constitution formally prohibited in 1868.

It didn't seem to stop him or his insane cult attempting to destroy the democratic process again, and again, and again and again. Beating him in another democratic process will make no difference.

Are you sure? Maybe we’re all extras in a Pan’s Labyrinth sequel. Fascists are in charge. It’s hard to know what’s real. But this time it’s straight-to-Netflix.

Ulythium Jambowayoh I'm afraid all this as well as a televised trial will make him more of a martyr in the eyes of his followers...

He already had enough pull to stir up a fucking Capitol raid, and his fans are becoming professional contortionists with how much they're bending over backwards trying to kiss his arse... If someone has as little respect for the democratic process as he's demonstrated time and time again, there has to be a point where enough is enough and he can no longer be a part of it. Keeping him in it in spite of everything seems like the type of "When they go low we go high" thing that has worked... pretty much never with recent Republicans AFAIK...

I get wanting him to stop and go away, but do you really think making him more of a martyr is a good idea? I don't see where I proposed that as a solution. I mean we can talk about the democratic process in America and how much lip service is paid to it in regards to the massive amounts of gerrymandering in black majority areas, the demonising of postal voters, voter ID being brought into areas specifically to disenfranchise specific communities. It's a fucking joke is what it is. Trump will make and is making himself a martyr no matter what, he lost the election last time and hasn't shut the fuck up about it nor have people adjacent to him, the Republican party that exists now is an uncontrollable beast with a large amount of people who will never accept the legitimacy of a Democratic president, senator, governor, councillor and lawmaker no matter who is it. If Biden wins the election Trump isn't going to just stop. I don't have a solution because why do I need to suggest one, but let's not think the democratic process that currently exists is the panacea to the issue.

If the powers that be determine that the 14th Amendment applies to Trump, then *he* has "[made] it so people can't vote for him." Him, and no-one else.
How? By breaching the Constitution, the cornerstone of American democracy, and disqualifying himself from the presidency in the process.
His cultist fanbase wouldn't be able to vote for him in the same way they can't vote for those who weren't born in the USA, those who are under the age of 35, and many other groups besides.
