His lawyer has been pontificating on TV basically admitting to some of indictments (but minimising it as an issue).
Lots of "real" lawyers saying this is really stupid. Supposedly if your lawyer says stuff publicly it is seen to be representing you.

It must be hard, given that he’s been charged with doing the things we saw him do and saying the things we heard him say, the best the Last Lawyer In America can say is “sure, he did all that, but free speech!” Trump’s only tactic is to delay until he’s president or dead, whichever comes first.

I'm happy about the indictments overall. But it's going to be a shit show right up until the very end, and honestly I think I'd rather an early heart attack so we can resume not paying attention to American politics.
Really, I just want him to shut the fuck up. Whether that's due to death, being in a jail cell, having his vocal chords removed and phone taken away, whatever. I'm not picky.

Interestingly, being in prison does not preclude someone from becoming President. There was a candidate who ran in the 1920's who could theoretically have become President and was in Jail. The fact that Trump supporters entirely believe that the system is against Trump, any conviction would prove in the mind of conspiracy theorists that the system is against Trump. So, bizarrely, in the case of any successful conviction, his numbers would probably go up. Lest we forget, that is exactly what happened when he was convicted, not so long ago, of actual sexual assault (albeit a civil rather than a criminal case). |

His poll numbers go up AMONG LIKELY REPUBLICAN VOTERS. It’s not a reflection of whether he can win an actual election, just that, the fucking weirdos that Fox etc have nudged Republicans into becoming are into that.
The weasels who were dead against Trump until he won, eg Lindsey Graham, will turn straight to pretending they were never for him as soon as the next guy comes along.
But it seems pretty certain the next guy will also be a giant cunt. Bizarrely, Chris Christie seems like their best candidate. No chance he’ll win. Vivek Ramaswamy will probs overtake DeSantis. Ramaswamy is a massive arsehole from what I’ve seen.

Either a backup candidate, or a backup plan in the form of some kind of golden throne that keeps the leader alive. |

One bright thing to note from the US I guess is that Trump has continued to beg people to protest his great injustices and about half a dozen nutters is all that turns up. I hope that means that the majority of Republican’s somehow realise he’s full of shit, even as their mouths run in the other direction.
