The morbidly amusing thing is that so far every single one of his picks has pissed his base off. They're gonna have such a shit time.

I was sure that he’d have dark powers ready to snatch key positions the moment he took power but somehow he’s gone for similar clowns to last time.
I wonder what the chances are that someone like Hegseth won’t fancy the actual hard work of running a department and the Pentagon is able to insulate itself from some of his worst impulses through sheer institutional weight?

Just saw a head line about Trump appointing a squad to fire generals he doesn't like.
My mind initially read it another way.
Perhaps a sign of things to come.

The one thing giving me a bit of hope is that he’s falling the same trap of hiring either sycophants who are incompetent such as Noem, or somewhat establishment republicans like Rubio who you would think could function as the adults in the room. What the election says about how uneducated and uniformed the voters are in America is a whole other worry though. Just completely detached from reality at this stage. And right wingers firmly in control of the information infrastructure is only going to make the problem continually worse.

The whole thing is a symptom of where the US is in the cycle of empires rising and falling. The least of its citizens, be that through misfortune, genetics, or lack of opportunity. Have sought a sense of personal achievement, by attaching their own sense of worth with the nation's current, dominant position. They've been drawn to an apocryphal narrative, where the nation leverages its strength to their advantage. This is a hubristic view and will undermine the nation's dominant status.

And right wingers firmly in control of the information infrastructure is only going to make the problem continually worse. I feel like a likely outcome is he goes through a whole load of sycophants and incompetents who don't really achieve anything quite quickly before trying to do what he did last time. The question is if there's anyone left in the "technically less insane/competent relatively speaking" bracket who'd work with him any more for him to eventually fall back on.
I reckon the Musk/Trump fallout is going to be epic though.

www.theguardian.com/media/2024/nov/13/why-the-guardian-is-no-longer-posting-on-xThe Guardian abandoning posting on twitter, which is an interesting move. I wonder how much of it is just clickthroughs from twitter noticeably dropping etc? Stuff like this individually I shouldn't reach too much into, but collectively it does feel like the genuine, final twitter exodus could actually be happening this time.

Rick Scott came third in the senate leader vote and got eliminated from consideration, which is interesting given who was screaming for him to lead. They ended up with John Thule who was the least worst choice.

Fucking hell catching up on this is really, really bleak. I don't see a way out of some very dark times unless his presidency does something monumentally stupid in the first months or they completely eat themselves. They are absolutely fanatical and extremely dangerous.

Hope it lasts long enough for Musk to Tweet some vitally important national secret and subsequently get thrown in jail.

Hope it lasts long enough for Musk to Tweet some vitally important national secret and subsequently get thrown in jail. loudly "tut tut"-ed at and possibly fined for maybe 1/100,000th of his wealth, which will never be collected because rich people are above the law's consequences. FTFY (unfortunately)

Oh fuck. Truly a who's who of talent. This has all the hallmarks of Johnson appointing loyalists rather than you know basic competence. Well done America.

Jesus wept (well he probably is let's be fair) - but it's really like Trump think picking the worst people for jobs just to troll the dems (and us). I feel for our sane US cousins who didn't vote for this shit show. It really is going to be a car crash.

It does seem laughably easy to get a position of power from him by just flattering him. Then give it a while and it'll be "I never hired them, they were forced on me".

I guess there's some positives there if he's putting clowns in all the top positions, in that his government might (again) be too incompetent to do that much damage. But it's not something I'd bet on.
