Ahhh America that shining star. So bright and great that it couldn't stand the thought of a woman, let alone a black woman, telling people what to do. At least those who voted for Jill Stein or abstained will sleep soundly knowing they went with their morals and secured peace for Gaza...

I’m still going to blame Biden for it. He should have stepped aside way sooner and let a proper primary happen, regardless of how well the country was doing at the time. There’s more to it than that, obviously, like people apparently being batshit insane, but this will be picked apart even more than 2016 was for snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

I kind of hope Trump wins. I'd love to see what happens when a country that isn't ours bans vaccines, takes fluoride out of the water, puts tariffs on anything entering the country and tries to deport a massive chunk of its workforce. Your wish as you commanded my liege.

Strange, the person I follow on Instagram who was an enormous cheerleader for not voting Harris because Gaza is now the loudest “America how could you?!” voice on there

Unfortunately it was all too predictable. Harris had to turn around a Biden administration that for one reason or another has largely been ineffective and people were willing to give the convict a go at brokering peace in Gaza and stopping the war in Ukraine - and the hard line on immigration is a huge factor, as is his tech-bro buddy taking over the world’s biggest social media outlet just to give the far right a bigger megaphone.
Of course the Biden administration might not have been so ineffective had Trump not scorched the earth as soon as he lost the presidency.
Now, how long before Trump starts going through his list of enemies…

Finally the war can end now, when Trump meets with Putin and Zelenskyy

He’d need to change the constitution. Even by his standards that would be impressive. Plus, he’ll be 82. Who knows if he’ll have the faculties to carry on. They'll definitely try. And if it's not Trump leading they'll be finding ways to make it impossible to remove the Republicans. And I'm not convinced they won't succeed. I may be proven wrong, but he’ll probably try get one of his dickhead sons or his daughter in there in his place. There’ll be a Trump legacy in the GoP for years to come, that’s certain.

Is it though, there is a chance that was all bluster and his military advisers will steer him against stopping support.

That's two Trump presidencies, Brexit and four Conservative governments elected since I've been able to vote.
Starting to think my values are in the minority.

Now, how long before Trump starts going through his list of enemies… personally I think it's as basic as misogyny and racism. Policies don't seem to be a factor when DT is telling everyone import tariffs on everything will be good for them and then going Grandpa Simpson for 30 minutes

He's not appointing anyone except those who will go "yes your Orangeness" at everything he says, so fat chance of that... That or he gets 25th'd as soon as they can so someone less unpredictable/more controllable gets to be the mouthpiece. Either way, shit sucks. Let's hope that a) they even have an election in 4 years and b) someone not evil wins it

Yeah, Zelensky’s victory plan won’t be happening now.
Obama summed it up for me when he said Trump was given so many free passes, Harris had to be exceptional all day every day. She had too much to do in too little time. America isn’t ready for a woman president of any race. I still think Biden is a thoroughly decent man, but he should never have started for two terms.
I’ve no idea where it goes from here, but comments like ‘you’ll never have to vote again’ are a real worry.
I’ll pray

Most definitely, it's easy to fall into a little bubble of progressive views and values but it often feels like we're just kidding ourselves.

Of course the Biden administration might not have been so ineffective had Trump not scorched the earth as soon as he lost the presidency. Yeah, I do think their is truth in this. Trump effectively began campaigning for the election before he'd even lost the previous one, with all the vote-rigging nonsense, stolen election, etc. etc. That was four years ago and yet feels like yesterday. The tone of ALL American politics shifted immensely after that and Jan 6th. Just last night watching the Republican talking heads on BBC banging on about "dangerous mainstream media" etc. as if it's a rational, normal dialogue. The BBC pundits often didn't even challenge them if they had to move to the next segment. The normalisation of falsehoods has engulfed politicians and political integrity is at absolute rock bottom.

A person is alright, people are told what to think by self enriching billionaires. This election was just fought on immigration and transphobia, two things which don’t affect most voters. And nothing is going to change until we stop allowing them to do it.

I know that most of my (otherwise seemingly normal and intelligent) colleagues over there voted for him. It’s baffling. But maybe if you are in that bubble it’s hard to see the wood for the trees. I don’t know.
Think I’ll be avoiding news for a while now, for my own sanity.
