An amazingly comprehensive answer to the question that was asked.

That answer would have gone down great straight after the Hindenburg disaster.

I have a sneaking suspicion that he's going to win. I wish that were not the case, but his supporters are going to vote for him no matter what, and I don't think Harris has managed to do enough to build up her coalition.
No point worrying about it too much when I have zero control over what happens, but yeah... America is weird. Hopefully someday they will become less weird.

Yeah just as you're thinking "Wow, the last 8 years have been weird."; a purple giraffe wearing a 10 inch strap on is breaking out the KY jelly and nipple clamps.

I have a sneaking suspicion that he's going to win.. Same here 🙁 Can only hope that it eventually leads to a massive swing in the opposite direction one day, to give the Democrats the house and senate, so they can make major changes to the Constitution, Supreme Court and numerous other things that need dragging away from right wing nuttiness.

Looking forward to the mental gymnastics these MAGA Gamergate idiots will do to still be in support of Trump saying he will ban violent video games

Trump Vs The Markets is gonna be like Truss's mini budget on steroids and PCP. There very well may be a snap back towards the Dems, but America's global position will be irreparably diminished.

The mental gymnastics needed to reconcile that position with gun laws is... significant

He also clearly doesn't give a shit anymore. Its very strange to see someone trolling his own supporters but whose brain is too jellified to understand or care why he’s doing it anymore

If he does win, I'm not sure the other side will ever get the chance. My gut tells me that he won't win, and it won't even be close, and in fact you might even get a Dem majority in both houses, but I may be wishcasting.

I still wonder if there'll be a repeat of Jan 6th if Harris does win.

I still wonder if there'll be a repeat of Jan 6th if Harris does win. I would hope that now that a traitor, felon, rapist etc etc is NOT in charge of the army, any new attempts from the Gravy SEALs would be squashed long before they even got close to the Capitol...

Given the attempted assassination of Trump and this whole line that the previous election was stolen, the likes of Musk constantly saying if Dems win then Democracy is dead etc, I wouldn't be surprised if some decided to take it upon themselves to try something similar. She'll have constant security detail like never before. Assuming she wins.

I have no doubt he will try something if it doesn't go his way. And if the result isn't a decisive rejection of Trump, I'm sure the next four years will still be plagued by loads of people saying the election was stolen.
What will actually happen I reckon is completely up in the air. Polling for the US election is supposedly not well regarded, as they apparently still rely heavily on phone polling giving a very narrow range of people that they actually get to poll (who under 60 answers unsolicited calls?) I also expect that there is massive amounts of shy Trumpers who won't say they will vote for him, but will when they get in the booth.
Sadly, I think it could go either way and it will be down to a few votes in a few states. I am pretty confident that Harris will win the popular vote, likely quite comfortably, but how that breaks down is anyone's guess and I doubt it will get any clearer the nearer we get to the vote.

I think that's baked in at this point. That's inherently depressing that my brain went there and your phrase of it being "baked in". I am glad that while a lot about British governance pisses me off it still has its head screwed on to a degree.

You wouldn't see something similar happening in the UK (besides a few lone wolves attacking MPs). Not enough people give a shit about politics here for them to get that worked up to do anything beyond having a good moan.

There won't be anything at Washington level, the worry is stuff happening at state level. Apparently they have an avalanche of legal challenges ready to be launched. Some on Trumps side are already complaining that the campaign is spending too much time setting up legal attacks for after the election, rather than campaigning to win it

I'm not sure Trump will win personally. I know the polls are close, but a lot of the noises from his campaign and the moves they're making come across a bit desperate, like they're expecting to lose. I wonder if they have some internal polling that's less favourable.

Remember it looked like he would lose in 2016 and even in that race his own campaign appeared to think he'd sunk his chances multiple times. He didn't lose by much in 2020 despite being a blatantly incompetent moron for his entire term. It's good that the Dems seem a little more energized and it might be enough, but for my own sanity's sake I'll assume the worst until it's over.

I feel like they revised poll methodologies after that, but we'll see I guess.

The bookies still favour Trump to win. Which is depressing.

Bookies just reflect money wagered. In something like this, I can't see how they would know anything beyond that, unlike in sports betting.

The bullshit that's on the way whatever the result will make people wistfully long for the days of hanging chads.
A phrase that's got a very different meaning since 2000.

The pollsters have all revised their methodology, but we still don't know if there will be silent trumpers like the last few times, or even if they've gone too far and overcompensated towards Harris. Plus a lot of the polls are within the margin of error, and really the only polls that matter are in those handfuls of swing states, and those are mostly within margin of error. Plus there are all the local election officials trying to pull various shenanigans.
I honestly have no idea who'll win. It seems pretty likely Harris will win the popular vote, but that means nothing.
