skalpadda Senate went 48+VP D to 50 R in 2020, 49 D to 49 R in 2022... but there's the added wrinkle of Manchin and Sinema that often obstructed things for the democrats (and are now independent) House went 222 D to 213 R in 2020, 213 D to 222 R in 2022. So bottom line... No.

We can all have our thoughts on Biden supporting Israel to the extent he has and feel aggrieved by it and even be validated for it. But fuck me, do you really think Trump would be any better? I cannot comprehend how on earth you've read any of my posts which state "I can understand why someone might think Biden was shit" and arrived at "this user thinks Trump would be better". Honestly an incredibly bizarre post if your thought process of seeing someone disapprove of a candidate on x/y grounds is to immediately assume that they think someone who is even worse on those same grounds would somehow be better. To be absolutely clear, my original post isn't directed at you or anyone in particular. More a general question on anyone who does think that way. But my apologies if it came across that way.

My bad then, I thought that was directed at me.
I'm finding the BBC's coverage of this a little odd - the general vibe seems to be "well, she's polling the same against Trump as Biden is", but leaving out that that's off the back of no campaigning as a candidate. Obviously as VP she's hardly invisible, but at least wait and see - the vibe I'm seeing around her is pretty positive with a ton of fundraising suddenly rolling in and importantly for the Dems, they're all seemingly actually getting fully behind her, which doesn't really seem like they've done for a candidate since Obama.
I do think it's pretty funny that they let the republican convention be out of the way before announcing this, they've had a whole week of "Biden Biden Biden" and it's just completely inverted the narrative. Doesn't even seem like it was really planned that way either, but the Trump gang seem pretty panicked by it. Be funny if they just start pushing the "he's too old" stuff on Trump now.

Drama and rapid-fire news generate clicks. That's really all there is to it. They'll take a talking point and beat it to death, then move to the next one before anyone can fully digest what's happening.
One of several reasons why Trump's BS firehose was so effective, it all blended together, began feeling meaningless and tired people out, without each individual thing sticking around to be properly fact-checked.

Not paid much attention to him for some time now, but I see Owen Jones has gone fully unhinged. He posted a YouTube video last night entitled "Biden to stand down - History will damn him!" and the image has the subtle caption "GOODBYE TO A MONSTER". Tbf we really shouldn't be paying attention to anything Owen Jones says and does. He's just an eternal contrarian who actually doesn't want whoever he supports to be in power because that would ruin the narrative he's created in his head of being the underdog and as a result would never have to answer to criticism or have to directly criticise those he supports.

He was at a mutual friend's birthday party a few years back, total bellend. Talked to me and my other non-London / politics circles friends like unworthy scum. I genuinely had no idea who he was when I started talking to him, my opening "what do you do? / how do you know birthday girl?" gambit, you know normal meeting strangers at events type stuff, I think didn't go down well. In hindsight, I love how I must have slightly dented his unjust sense of self-worth and pride.

I saw Owen Jones at a Waitrose in London yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything. He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?” I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying.
The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.
When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

I'm sure Owen Jones has a take on Waitrose that equates them with Myanmar.

Just thinking out loud here but would there be any harm in Biden terminating his presidency with immediate effect? Kamala would be the first female president by default (albeit unelected), and the presidency would give her defending champion momentum in the election campaign. And if she lost she wouldn't even have to worry about the Liz Truss shame of being the shortest-running president because as we all know William Henry Harrison died in 30 days.

If you wanted to hand Trump the White House in November getting Biden to step down now would be a good first step. It's a terrible idea. Let him be President until hopefully the next Democratic President is hopefully sworn in in January and let him put all his time into running the country rather than fighting an election.

Going to back to owen ratface for a minute, I don't think he is clickbaiter for the guardian, he has this condition: being a terminal, insufferable, twat face gimp. He is the sort of person that has be the centre of attention. NASA could put a colony on Mars and he could make it about himself.
Sure republicans this morning where scrambling around, phoning the Kremlin to get orders on what to do next. Glad Biden stepped down for the next election, he did the right thing in the end. Did read some comments on reddit that republicans may try to oppose Harris running "as its too late for a new candidate" they better not
also crooked felon/dementia/sleepy Trump is so old, really shouldn't be running for POTUS but the USA media will not cover that

I don't think it is a terrible idea, to be honest. Yeah, the true believers are going to shout about a conspiracy to install her as an unelected president (which isn't true, as everyone voted for both Biden/Harris knowing full well what that meant), but they can be mostly ignored. I wouldn't be surprised if most of them think Biden has been given the boot because he missed his shot from the grass knoll the other week.
The undecideds and the Democrats that are going to stay at home are the ones that need convincing, and I would have thought that would be easier to do if she had been doing the job already, even if it is only for a few months.
It ain't going to happen, but I definitely don't think it would be a disaster.

The fact that the Trumpists are lobbying for Biden to stand down immediately suggests to me that such a move would, at the very least, play right into their hands; for that reason alone, I think it's a bad idea.
Better to get Harris cemented as the candidate and get to work picking a VP, in my view.

It's just a shit thing to do, oh you think it's a bad day do you, well at least it's not as bad as the tragically bad day when your wife and child died in a car accident.
I'm sure if you had been through that you wouldn't love someone posting about it on social media. It's just completely classless and completely unnecessary.
