This is incredible so far. As soon as I've finished it I'm going to play control again. Ha ha. I’ve just reinstalled Control for after.

One more thing. It seems like the game doesn’t want you to go straight for the next objective. Seems huge chunks of stuff is off the beaten path.

Didn't think too much of the first boss fight but other than that I've been having a good time.

I haven't tried this in performance mode yet but I really see no need to. In quality it is really smooth and I am assuming looks much better.

It was nice of the game to wait until after that fight to tell me I could quick turn. I didn't find it too bad though, I did have a shotgun for it however.

This has replaced BG3 at the top of my wishlist for next game purchase.
It looks bloody gorgeous, every shot is a potential wallpaper but the with more and more comments likening it to control has sealed it for me.
/Installs control

It's not like control gameplay wise but it's fully linked to it in terms of the universe and interconnect plot. It's more of a horror/scary/detective thriller.
I was so disappointed with control first time through but I must have been missing something because I love it now.

I found the setting of Control to be so dull. This, and its predecessor are the opposite of dull.

It's not that the boss fight is hard it's just not very good. Either way a small blight on what's been a great experience so far.

I didn't mind it but it's not exactly a high point. The funny thing is after not liking it so much the first time I played AW, I could actually do with a bit MORE combat in this. It's very fucking good but six hours in I've done an awful lot of walking about.

Actually I kinda want to start Alan Wake again. I remember I liked it well enough the first time around, although they really could have improved the combat - American Nightmare was better in this regard, so you'd think they could have gone back to the original game and refined it too.
For comparison, I really didn't like Quantum Break, and Control was decent but left me pretty cold overall.

Bigger blight is getting a GPU crash in the section after all the time. Can't get past it without a crash so going to have to wait for a patch or a new driver to try..

I was so looking forward to all the pretty gfx that I forgot I don’t handle jump scares very well. Failed that first boss fight a couple times, so going to wind down with some mario

Haha, yep. I'm a giant pussy. Some of the sudden cuts when you're just walking around the place made me launch a cat off my lap. Hell, even the deer in the general store made me jump out of my skin. Chapter 3 was pretty wild. Sam Lake doing the Max Payne gurn cracked me up. "Very meta" Quite surprised at the lack of combat so far. They clearly knew what kind of game they wanted to make and stuck to their guns. (or lack of) I can see it putting some people off, but I'm loving the slow burn and wandering around the place.

The combat isn't a high point anyway so it's better that they keep it to a minimum. It's mental that they made Max Payne all those years ago and have struggled to make combat feel as good since.

The combat in Max Payne outside of slow mo was like controlling one of those inflatable garage tube men. If was only incredible because of the slow motion.

Nah, that's nonsense. Max Payne felt good to play in and out of slow-mo and 2 was even better.
For years afterwards, developers seemed incapable of creating good feeling third-person shooters on PC. Even now, most only feel right with a pad. Remedy managed to do it perfectly fine 22 years ago.

Do you not remember that blood trail level in the first Max Payne? That was horrendous to control.

Yeah, you have the precise control of a mouse for turning, paired with the frustration of Max lurching off the edge when you tapped a key to move forward a tiny bit. God those bits were awful!

Don't like that you have to put together the clues in the minds place to progress even when she's already said out loud what she needs to do.

I am about 10 hours in, it‘s definitely one of the most stylish, best looking, best sounding and most atmospheric games, but there‘s also very little, well, gameplay, is there? Walk through a gorgeous, entirely non-interactive level until somewhere, a little UI symbol indicates that you can press X. You can also shoot your gun every 30 minutes or so. I‘ve played so-called walking simulators with significantly more player agency.

Hot take.... THIS IS AMAZING!!
And I would like to confirm that saga does , finally, react to what's going on. Those first few chapters early game were a bit bizarre how calm she was.

I'm not sure what it's like to play it now as I've not played it for maybe ten years. I absolutely loved it ten years ago.
The atmosphere and style is similar but it's much more slow paced than the original. Much more detective work and talking and stress.
It's not quite a walking SIM as there is action and shooting and boss fights etc but it's 75/25 a stressful/scary walking sim.
