I really can’t imagine what this lock out is referring to. The Switch does occasionally check to see if you hold the licence to games you have installed on your system, but that’s only when using multiple accounts over multiple systems. And without an internet connection you can be locked out of access those games after a week or two. But that’s not quite the same thing.

Whoever told her that seems to have been an idiot. I'll log in anyway as I want to go through Pokémon Violet (think that's the one on there), it just seemed like a weird requirement.

Golf Story is quite straight forward and charming. Feels like a modern GBA game. I really enjoyed it and I played it at launch, in which it really needed more time on the oven, so now it’s all polished up it’s definitely worth a shot.

You've just reminded me that my switch has been off for a couple of months with a dead battery. I really need to get better at powering off properly when not in use. Given it a charge just in case I get Wonder or RPG for Christmas.
Can't say I've ever had any issues after months of sitting there unused, apart from needing to be online to prove you own digital purchases.

Mine used to be the same, since it was docked most of the time. Ever since I took it hostage in my room while I was dealing with Covid though, I've been using it undocked much more often, so it usually just stays in my room turned off instead of taking it back to the dock. It helps that I don't have any games going right now that I really want to see on the TV though (having finished both TotK and Xenoblade 3). When I properly start Octopath 2 it'll probably start visiting the dock more often again

Anyone played through Dave the Diver on the Switch? I'm playing the demo and it's a bit choppy at times in the water, and has already crashed on me once. Wondering if the full game has been patched and is not quite as bad.
Also tempted by Crosscode which is about a fiver in the current eshop sale.

My partner clocked 70 hours of Dave the Diver. She had the game hard lock once, apparently, but says the game runs fine.
Saying that, she’s not the kind of person who is all that fussed by game performance generally.

Anyone looking to offload a switch? Daughter has been using my son's but now wants her own...we didn't want to get her one until we knew she'd like it. She's not much of a gamer.

Received Super Mario RPG and Xenoblade Chronicles 3 for Christmas. Went with the former first, as seems it is quite a short, whereas XC3 I'm guessing ain't.
No knowledge of the original game, but finding this really charming. Unsurprisingly, quite lightweight for an RPG and the gameplay doesn't seem to change too much, but there is enough fun characters and moments to keep it consistently engaging. Plus, the odd mini game along the way mixes things up a little bit.

Yeah, 12 hours seemed ideal to me so I jumped into that first too. It's a lovely little game

I don't play JRPG's all that often anymore, I'm not a huge anime type of guy, I usually bounce off things quite easily and yet I still loved it. The gameplay loop is just so compelling. No time seems wasted as there is meaningful reward for just about everything you do. Even the occasional aimless wandering nets you items to check off colony requests which builds affinity which unlocks more quests. Most shocking of all the quests are good! They usually provide background on the particular colony and provide depth to the inhabitants making the world feel lived in. What a game

Can't wait to play XC3. Played the first two last year and loved both.
Currently enjoying Dicey Dungeons, it's quite similar to Slay the Spire and is great for little 15 minute runs. Quite a nice variety of mechanics. And a truly brilliant chip tune soundtrack:

The previous 2 really pulled me in with their over the top nonsense storylines and can't wait to see where they take this one. Good to hear the quests are good. Only downer I had from the previous 2 were the side quests being really dull. 2 improved on them a tad, but were still not great.

I can almost guarantee you won't be disappointed (the almost is only just in case you find some mechanics unappealing), plus you'll be able to retroactively catch the references 3 made to the series! /still hoping for a port of X to have the whole series on Switch

It's all very clever

/still hoping for a port of X to have the whole series on Switch Even as a Wii U owner I missed out on X. Think I considered picking it up when the digital shop was closing down, but the price was crazy, so ended up not bothering. Would be great for a remaster to be made. Maybe it could be a Switch 2 launch title.

X will always be my favorite in that series. It isn’t close. But that one had excellent sidequests as well. They’d go from silly to extremely dark, and they really helped expand the lore of the colony.
Really wish they had ported it to Switch, but it’s not happening. Maybe the Switch wasn’t a big enough leap over the Wii U to eliminate the framerate or pop-in issues. Maybe the next console.

Spent new year at the inlaws so played some different Switch games from the ones we own.
Mario Kart 8 has some cool tracks. While it seems like an evolution of Mario Kart Wii, it's *so* much easier. I think that's almost entirely down to the controls being much easier, and maybe also that it doesn't have MKWii's tendency to boot you from first place to last place in the space of a few seconds.

Lol, probably. I got first place in almost every race, with the others being 2nd and 3rd. Maybe the npcs are just shit.
Whereas in Wii we'd usually be in 11th and 12th place. Bloody princess peach!

It annoyingly seems to default the second player to the assist mode (you see a little antenna on back of cart to know it is there) and it seems the only way to turn it off is in race the first time (or I didn't look hard enough at options)
Playing on 150CC recently we were getting beaten by computer players sometimes.

If you’re not playing Grand Prix mode the difficulty defaults to normal, which is a fair bit easier. It is generally an easy game, but 3-starring cups can be tricky. 200cc is there is you want an actual challenge though and it’s actually great fun trying to master each of the courses at that speed.

I never knew you could complete MK8 (or I guess never really thought about it), because I just spent most of my time racing online. But my boy recently 3-starred all 50, 100, 150, 200 and mirror cups (not DLC, mind), and got a nice end credits scene, and now gets different splash screens and sound effects for the menus[/spolier]
which I thought was cool. I thought getting Gold Mario after 200cc was the final thing.
