Quite a decent Direct from my point of view. Farming games and RPGs are always of interest. Pikmin 4 as well, though I haven't finished P3 yet. ricesandwich Holy moly! It's been forever! How are you doing?! Doing fine and still enjoying my Switch. I retired from pc gaming and I'm now on Switch and 3ds only.

Pikmin is meh? Blasphemy! But yeah, the Switch seems to be winding down a bit now and I wouldn't expect a new Mario game on it now tbh. Come on, it was an interesting little game on GameCube when there was only a game every 6 months but ultimately it's not at the level of other Nintendo output. It's fun but simplistic.

I'd play Pikmin over Kirby or Pilotwings. Liked Pikmin 3 more than The Wonderful 101 also.

ricesandwich Yeah, its hard to justify more than two platforms these days unless you happen to be both very wealthy and somehow unemployed. I am just on Xbox and Switch these days. Xbox for Gamepass indies and Switch for everything else. I vert stupidly sold my 3DS to fund another PS4 a few years back. I massively regret it, but not much I can do about that now.

I can genuinely see some people enjoying Pikmin more than Kirby of course. Edit: anyway I'm making it seem like I hate Pikmin I was just absolutely utterly bored by the direct and the terrible Niantic shite which they had miyamoto wasting his time promoting

Hard disagree tbh, I played the first two a couple of years ago and loved them, especially 2 which is up there with the GC's best games imo. The first one was narrow in scope but the sequel fleshed things out considerably. I still need to play 3 at some point though. Anyway, regardless of what I feel, the point is that there are loads of niche Nintendo franchises - the likes of Pilotwings, F-Zero, even something like Wave Race - which fans would love to see return, so Pikmin 4 actually happening (7 odd years after the game was first announced) is a pretty big deal.

Indeed 😊
Pilot wings has always been crap though. A cool tech demo on the SNES but not good to play

Pikmin 3 on the Wii U, with a remote and nun-chuck (and the Gamepad on a mearby table) is one of my favourite gaming memories. Probably my favourite Wii U memory. I absolutely rinsed that game for every penny. Even the DLC mission packs.

Pikmin 4 was the best thing about that Direct (save maybe the Bayonetta 3 gameplay demo).

I genuinely didn't know that Pikmin 4 was announced 7 years ago!
Anyway I was just grumpy after letting myself be distracted from work by the direct and it's approximately 17000 farming Sims only for them to wheel out miyamoto to talk about an absolutely stupid themed pedometer for 5 minutes.

Heh, that wasn't directed at you.
Agreed that the amount of JRPG/Farming Sims was overkill, even for fans of the genre.
Surprised nobody is talking about the true killer app - Fist of the North Star Fitness Boxing.

Apparently the Japanese title roughly translates to Fitness Boxing: Fist of the North Star: You've already lost weight.

I thought it might be amusing to reveal that since my Pikmin posts I started playing tinykin and it's rather good...

As for Pikmin, 3 is probably in my top 5 games of all time. It’s wonderful. Just has a nice mixture of metroidvania and micromanagement that is really engaging. I really got sucked in by the tone of the game too. It has a nice comradely between the three characters and as a semi enthusiastic appreciation for science that I really dug. Can’t wait for 4. Keep meaning to pick up the Wild at heart. Looks like a good pikmin type game.

Anyone played City Wars: Tokyo Reign? Never played a game of this ilk before and it looks pretty good. Any other suggestions?

Grabbed a few cheap games on sale: Gley Lancer, Gynoug, Metro 2033 Redux, Goblin Sword and Train Station Simulator. A few new icons I'll never select...

The nice thing about the switch is that you can delete the icons from the Home Screen. Makes me feel a lot better. Tempted to pick up the metro games myself. Never quite pulled the trigger on them. Don’t know what it is that stops me really.

Watching Cyberpunk Edgerunners and gone back to 2077. The combination really makes me wish we'd get a new Astral Chain, but at the rate Platinum develops sequels, it's better I don't ask.
I am due for a replay though. Just a shame I don't recall there being any or many choices that'd make a second playthrough any different.

Does anyone here have a recommendation for a good Switch screen protector? Standard 1000s of choices of various random brand ones on Amazon... my one I've had on since launch finally cracked, but they don't sell it anymore

In my experience, it's not so much the screen protector itself but how carefully you put it on. Some of them come with a little cloth to clean the screen but this leaves little fibres that can get trapped under the screen protector, making a little bubble. YMMV but this infuriated me and I had to rip it off and get another one. The second time I used a Kimwipe to clean the screen and got a tempered glass protector on perfectly.

Might scratch that itch. Watching videos this morning and it looks like it runs really well. Still a bit wary of video comparisons though. I brought Lego Star Wars on switch and whilst it’s is a good port the presentation of it is so much nicer on the PS5. Yes I brought both versions on sale. And I don’t think after a few hours play the game is all that either 🤦♂️

Yeah. That's it when it comes to good Switch ports. They can look great on their own, but when you put it side by side with another version, it starts to look a bit sad.
I felt that way with the Dragon Quest 11 port, but when I eventually got around to playing it, that impression eroded completely. It looks and plays great on Switch!

On a different note entirely, Polytopia is getting a Switch port. Its a mobile phone port of a rather decent turn-based strategy game. The aim being to uncover a map, tile by tile, battle opposing tribes and conquer the randomly generated land within a given number of turns. You harvest materials and crops, develop cities and open trade routes. Its highly addictive.
The mobile version is free for anyone interested, but you only get 3 tribes to play with, rather than the 16 on Switch. Each tribe starts with early access to particular perks that at least mix up how you approach the early game. For example, some tribes can cross mountains, others can move more tiles per turn. Some harvest more crops, etc...
I'm really not a mobile phone gamer, but I put a good 30 - 40 hours into this on my phone, trying to 3 star all the tribes and get onto the leaderboards. I'll definitely be picking it up on Switch for the bigger screen and cough up some cash to the developer.

Tales of vesperia and ni no kuni heavily reduced. Either worth picking up? Or would you recommend one over the other?
Coming to the end of xenoblades 3 (which I've absolutly loved!)

I asked over on the Discord channel, but if anyone has Animal Crossing that they're looking to flog, give me a shout. My daughter has decided she'd quite like to play it so looking to get her one for her birthday next month.
