Yeah, this is pretty infuriating. A competition needs to be all in or all out, you can’t have different games being explicitly refereed to different standards and that being officially mandated.

I look forward to the reactions in the premier league thread if city win the league with a "toenail offside" goal being allowed in the 97th minute. I'm sure they will be identical to the ones shown here. You know what the stupidest thing is about the whole "benefit of the doubt / margin of error / advantage to the attacker" bs, you're just kicking the can ever so slightly down the road to - was he a toenail outside of the margin of error or not? You have to pick a fixed point and just start there. Sometimes there will be stupidly tight decisions, it's not a subjective decision so it is what it is. If there were goal line technology style cameras on drones all throughout the stadium running the length and width of the pitch we would probably have the perfect angles and nobody would care, as it is, the slow drawn out process and shit angles you see can make it a lot harder to determine. Anyway, struggling to think of a more embarrassing qualification to a cup final. Europa League guaranteed for next year at least..

Thought they scrapped awarding the loser with a European place if the winner had already qualified?

Stay classy, Antony. I like the fact the all the players looking forward are celebrating except for Maguire who seems perplexed.

Maguire is probably thinking oh shit, that means we have this again with City.

I did have a laugh after Hojlund giving it stacks after scoring the winning penalty, and then turning round expecting everyone to have run to him, and looking a bit sad as they they were all just still standing around half way embarassed.

Doesn't he know your not allowed to celebrate goals till 2 minutes later these days anyway Feel a bit sorry for him TBH, single best thing you can do in a match and the joy is wrung out of it.

I didn't mind him having a bit of a celebration. Frustrating game for him and regardless of the feeling United fans will have for having won it (embarassment, guilt etc.) it was still a huge pressure situation and he buried it.
I had almost (jokingly) turned against the team at the point of pens until the Bruno pen. The Coventry GK literally shouting in Brunos face turned me back on to wanting to see him suffer.
Funnily I saw some criticism of Bruno after that yesterday when actually he was completely in the right and the goalkeeper deserved a hell of a lot more back than Bruno actually gave him

I don't mind a bit of shit housing between players anyway. Always made a bigger deal by people than it actually is.

Yeah penalties are always full of shithousing, especially from the keepers. Think both keeprs got yellow cards during penalties yesterday, which is just pointless as they count for nothing (was Onana's second of the match). All mind games of course.

Sure, feel free to miss the point. Bunch of individuals, led by the ultimate shithouser. What could go wrong? And why did you need notes

Everyone has a degree of lenience on their own team shithousing now and again but having to resort to it against a mid-table Championship club is tone deaf, desperate and kind of pathetic to see. Was nice to see Maguire show a bit of class at the end, one of the only ones with any self-awareness at what had just taken place.

Thought they scrapped awarding the loser with a European place if the winner had already qualified? Yeah this, I don't think we get anything for runners up? However we are inline for a Europa Conference spot as Liverpool won the League Cup, Europa Conference is the one everybody wants to play in anyway isn't it?

I wouldn't mind no European football or the conference actually. No European football allows more time on the training pitch with the new manager. Conference gives the opportunity of back ups and youngsters to get a run out.

We definitely need a season completely out of Europe to reset and have a fighting chance at getting more than 50% of the squad fit at any one time.

Especially now that the Champions/Europa/Conference trio are becoming full leagues with like 50% more matches or whatever it was... I imagine a lot of squads with only average depth or worse will have some difficulty adapting

Doesn't really do the club any good financially to miss Europe but I'm at the point where a complete reset would be beneficial so I don't really care. You know the expectation if we were out of Europe would be that we should win the league that year.

Hopefully with Ineos on board commercial interests aren't the be all end all anymore. Last thing we need is panic buying another couple of 30 years olds to drag us into the CL as a last hurrah.

Hard to imagine what football would be like if they still refereed this way.

Wish I didn't want both teams to lose so much. Hope for an open high-scoring game at least.
