It almost defies the laws of probability.
Thought we just about did enough tonight - Brentford played well 2nd half but we defended well. Spammers away, was inevitable.

Last time to be drawn away in a one legged match was March 2021 vs Leicester.
However the last time to be drawn away to a stadium with fans, is all the way back on 5th March 2020, away to Derby.

Either Smith Rowe hasn't got match fitness or he just isn't suited to our game. I think his number is up if he doesn't start pressing more and doing defensive duties.

He was ok first half, but faded 2nd. Lost a couple of dooals too, which Mikel would have noticed.

muddyfunster Sagoe Jr was ok 1st half. Had the confidence to give it a go, which was great to see. And Odegaard made sure he got some applause from thr away fans at the end too.

Nice to see the FA fucking over lower league teams by getting rid of third and fourth round replays. Pricks.

If they are getting rid of replays they really need to have some sort of ranking system, always fielding the 'lower' ranked team at home. Some clubs have more of less ensured their very survival in the past by securing replays at their home ground.

I'm not sure it hurts the lower league teams. If anything it gives them a better chance of a giant killing as how often do they force a replay and then get absolutely smashed. They rarely win it where as they might scrape a penalty shoot out.
The one thing it may cost them is the pay day but giving lower league teams home advantage would sort that (but probably not easy to implement).

Losing that can cost vital transfer cash or stadium improvements that are otherwise impossible during the season. I know we benefited from the fourth round replay against Luton back in January.

It's also just destroying the history, bit by bit. No Hereford vs Newcastle! If PL teams can't manage 2 extra games Max then there's something wrong.

I thought the economics of it were the other way around?
i.e. the gate receipts are split 50/50 so small teams ideally want to play away in a big stadium as they can massively improve on their usual gate receipts.

It's double edged innit. A home draw against a big side gives them chance to progress. And if they pinch a draw, gate receipts keep them afloat for another year.

Either way it's sad for sure. I guess it does intuitively give smaller clubs a better chance of progression. Would be interested in the stats for how often the higher division team prevails over two matches vs one match.
I'd much rather they just binned off the league cup altogether. It is a bit alarming that European and International football is just grabbing more and more of the calendar.
PL will have to drop to an 18-team league next.

Yeah I wouldn't mind seeing the league cup go, despite it being one of the only things we can win now!

And 4 up, 4 down too.

Yeah I wouldn't mind seeing the league cup go, despite it being one of the only things we can win now! I don’t really want it to go, but the two legged semis are stupid. How they survived even after ET was axed is beyond me.

Ten hag still has no intention of ever playing Casemiro and Amrabat together in midfield. When that is probably the only partnership that makes sense.
Strong ole vibes now
