The fan generated content world is a mixed bag as with anything but there’s some real talent out there. The whole thing is really a response to mainstream punditry becoming tired and outdated.

We had True Geordie as one of ours but now he’s got 2 million subscribers he’s jumped ship for the whole mma/boxing market and does the occasional videos on/with guests like Jordan Peterson.
His whole deal was just screaming about Pardew and Ashley though so I guess that’s run out of steam and now we’ve got Sam Fender instead.

The fan generated content world is a mixed bag as with anything but there’s some real talent out there. The whole thing is really a response to mainstream punditry becoming tired and outdated. There's definitely room for it - I'm much more willing to listen to Arsenal pods that are made by fans with an attempt to provide proper analysis. Some are better than others and I have been surprised at the success of some, but different strokes I guess. The likes of AFTV/Goldbridge are just doing it for clicks without any shame whatsoever, and it really gets my goat. I am firmly in old man territory though - I had never heard of these music reaction vids - probably because I don't routinely browse YT/TikTok or whatever.

I can't really imagine myself watching someone else watch the game live. I don't think the likes of AFTV or that ManU guy are where it's at for my generation at least.
However, I totally agree that the fan-generated content can be very high quality. I find the best tends to come from people with some degree of related professional training that happen to be fans and start them as a passion project. We are pretty lucky as Arsenal fans to have several really excellent long-running podcasts. They are established enough to attract high-profile guests and professional journalists.
I thought it was interesting that when the Athletic started they clearly tried to buy into this market and actively recruited talent from this pool. I was kind of worried it would ruin the independent nature of the pods or make them struggle to get talent themselves but pleasingly all that seems to have happened is the indies have got stronger (still get the same guests and presenters who seemingly combine it with being on Athletic payroll) and The Athletic puts out plenty of quality club-specific stuff too, that benefits from the fact their writers do follow 'their' clubs much more closely.

Stephen Howson is our best one. He's a bit of a nob but he really knows his football and does great scouting reports too. Basically you get a prematch video the day before, where he talks line ups, tactics etc. Then a quick post game video normally a couple of hours after the match (because he actually attends all the games) and then a match/team review video the next day. Mixed in with the scouting reports and other stuff. He's linked to Stretford Paddock, but I don't really follow them.

Some of the "professional reacts to things they're an expert on" stuff is worth watching like Dr Hope's Sick Notes (the Kingsmen Church fight one is great) and Saturday doesn't feel complete without the Gamespot Firearms Expert series popping up, no Jonathan Ferguson, Keeper of Firearms and Artillery at the Royal Armouries Museum in Leeds, this week was disappointing.
A majority of the rest just seem pointless.

Ironically, the Athletic's own Arsenal podcast I find less interesting than the two or three independent Arsenal podcasts from where they poached their presenters. It's not bad, it's just a bit overly formulaic, briefer and ends up feeling more superficial, as if the producer doesn't quite understand what makes the fan pods they are clearly trying to emulate, good.

I did not know Jonathon Ferguson did online stuff. His books are excellent.

I don't mind it - I like Amy Lawrence a lot, been reading her stuff since she was writing in fanzines when I was about 14 and she was 16/17. Clarke has some good insights too. It could do with being a bit longer though, I agree.

Theres some stuff in the more general reaction sphere that has more value like a vocal coach listening to a song and describing what happens to hit certain notes. Or a music video director showing how ones are edited to get a certain look. An experts opinion and analysis has more worth than regular joe listening to a song or movie because 9 times out of a 10, the reaction is always positive so as not to piss any fans off. Pointless

Not so much interested in the former, tbh. The latter is much more up my street, though and I'll check it out.

It could do with being a bit longer though, I agree. Me too, she's great. It just feels less than the sum of it's parts. I'm not really a fan of the 'regular features' style format which is more radio show than podcast. Whilst not bad, Ian Stone isn't a particularly good presenter and he was more fun when messing around with Alan Davies on the Tuesday Club. James McNicholas, being less of a name, doesn't really get as much time for his thoughts as on the Arsecast. To begin with they also kept making a big play of having Lee Dixon on, and actually though he is a legend, he came across as a bit patronising (started every sentence with 'when I watch football' as if us more mortals couldn't possibly hope to attain his perspective) and not especially insightful either. As I say, it's good, but it's still a firm third place of the Arsenal specific ones (4th whilst Tuesday Club was active), and given that I try and listen to a couple of non-club specific football ones as well (to briefly step outside the echo chamber), I often just don't get time for it.

Agree re Ian Stone. What's number 2 for you? Mine are Arsecast (especially Extra, don't always bother with the Friday one), Hand Brake Off and then Arsenal Vision 3rd if I get time. Loved Tuesday Club a few years ago but got bored of the moaning.

Arsecast, then Arsenal Vision for me. I enjoyed this season so much that I actually joined AV's Patreon (also wanted to give them something for the hundreds of hours I've had free). Clive Palmer and Tim Stillman are very good. The tactical analysis they do (both post-game and looking at underlying trends) and Clive and Elliot's scouting videos for potential signings are to a depth that you don't really get elsewhere (it's not just the youtube compilation packages that everyone watches excitedly). They are video not just audio (don't know how they get around the rights issues).
Again struggle to find the time to listen to everything I'd like to, so have paused that Patreon again for now but would recommend it.

I do like Clive, has a good way of putting things. Tim I am a bit ambivalent about, but fair play to him for his work on women's football. Was almost a lone furrow for years for him. My niece and her husband had my season tickets for the Bournemouth game and were in the Tollington after, chatting to them etc. Very grateful recipients of the jagerbombs! Keep meaning to sub to Arseblog but wouldn't find the time for the extra content. His 40-50k a month won't miss my sub.

And they're underway in the EFL. Had missed the draw, some good games there.

Wolves score two goals! In the same match!!!
I know it’s lower league opposition, but anything that helps the strikers score under live conditions is useful

Just too many changes for us. Appreciate you’ve got to use the squad but none of these guys are Ange’s players and it shows. Needs to make big changes at halftime if we’re taking this cup seriously (which we absolutely should be).

On paper it’s not a bad 11 but like you say, to make that many changes rarely ends well.
Be really disappointing to go out of this at the first hurdle. Best chance of a trophy.

LO Celso off at HT. It’s strange how none of our managers seem to fancy him. Seems well thought of in Spain and Argentina. Maybe just not suited to the PL.

I would take loosing 5-0 to Fulham tonight it the result was we spend a decent sum on a decent striker.
I don’t want to see us try and get through a season with a few forward players searching for goals rather than having a striker whose focus is on nothing but goals!

Personally I’d rather just see Richi hit the form we know he’s capable of and not spend money unnecessarily. Speaking of which \o/

“GOAL - Fulham 1-1 Tottenham Richarlison (56 mins) A strange one here as Spurs equalise against 10 men...
But Fulham are down to 10 men because there's a problem with Kenny Tete's boot. The Cottagers defender runs round the pitch with his boot in his hand and then down the tunnel.
Where's the kitman?
Richarlison heads in from a tight angle while Tete is out of the picture.”
Sounds like Kenny put his foot in it?
