I must've missed the Tekken that surpassed Virtua Fighter 4 or 5. In mindshare and pure visibility it has. That's an objective fact. Gameplay is purely subjective. |

Tekken is the 3D fighter since VF, Soul Calibur, DOA etc all fell by the wayside. Tekken has more mass appeal due to flashy characters with personalities and big flashy moves. It even has an ongoing story! VF doesn't have any of that, characters have next to no personality or much reason for the wider audience to care beyond just rooting for the karate guy, the judo guy etc. Doesn't bother me and VF is still pretty big in Japan, but there's not much there for a Western audience to care at a glance. VF is the best at easy to pick up but difficult to master, as well as each release being a tech showcase at the time. If they can do that again, with actual rollback netcode this time, then it can find an audience but it still won't reach Tekken levels

Should've been clearer - I was talking purely gameplay terms. Don't think I've played a better 3D Fighter than VF4/VF5.

Well that's fine, I prefer VF5 over 4 especially when it was rereleased for ps4 not too long ago. I wonder what direction they're going in for the new one. The only issue is the amount of people who talk about it vs the amount who actually buy it.

As its likely RGG doing it, I always imagined they would expand out quest mode to some light version of a LAD game. And similar to that mode on Tekken 8, it would be about you as a player wanting to be the best VF player and win a global tournament. Wondering around visiting arcades in the LAD maps having some kind of shonen-esque tournament arc

Tombi! has been dispatched by Limited Run Games, I can't bloody wait, loved it all those years ago but never quite managed to complete it, aiming to correct that.
In for a retro treat over the next month, blood Omen 1 and 2, and resistance 1 and 2 all on PlayStation plus, shame that the resistance games are streaming only though.

do we have any fins? once worked with a finnish guy who spoke english, japanese, and finnish and i cannot imagine three more tricksy languages
anyway, he had me drink "finnish coffee" which was piss weak regular drip filter coffee strengthened by adding instant coffee to the mug of tears. and jesus fuck he was pulling my leg, right? right?
