Not gonna lie, a Quake 2 remaster like they did for the first game would totally make my day... and week... and month.
Too bad the official expansions weren't all that good (Reckoning was ok, but Ground Zero just sucked). So they should definitely add a few extra maps.

Basically the same as Quake. One decent expansion and one rubbish one. Hopefully they include a new campaign like they did with the Quake port

Released today, The Bookwalker : Thief of Tales looks pretty good. A top down game with turn based combat, looks decent.

I never played the expansions, Q2 was the first game I bought after we got our first family PC, damn I thought games couldn't look better than that, obviously that soon changed like really bloody quickly.

I played through Quake 2 and then my brother went out and bought a 3DFX card for the PC. Played through it again and my god. My tiny eyeballs nearly exploded. Such vibrant colours.
Also I recall deathmatching the absolute shite out of it. I remember being able to open the files for the skins and making my own as well. Happy days.

I remember being blown away by the PS1 version; Quake 2 had no business whatsoever running on that thing. (For context: Duke 3D on Playstation had trouble maintaining a playable framerate much of the time.) It was the last of the big PC shooters to be ported to the PSX/N64 generation of machines (Unreal was apparently in development but ultimately got scrapped), and was the end of an era of sorts. DC, PS2 and XBox versions of FPS titles would be much closer to their PC counterparts, and from the 360 onwards consoles have been more or less the target platform. But it's those fascinatingly compromised 90's era ports that are far more interesting to go back and look at today.
Anyway I should really stop rambling about ancient FPS games lol

All I remember (if I remember it accurately atall) is long nights fighting to get a fucking Diamond Stealth 1mb (?) card to run it. And failing, probably due to my utter lack of any relevant knowledge whatsoever. Caveat dickhead.

Had a lot of fun with Quake 3 on DC but seem to remember the one that released on Xbox being pretty dull?

@tage oh yeah, didn't that have 2 or 4 player split screen too? Had lots of drunk fun with that IIRC, which I don't...

Yup. Mindblowing what they accomplished on that hardware.

I was watching some Shadow of the Colossus gameplay on YouTube this afternoon - does the game ever provide any sort of narrative explanation for why the Colossi need to die, apart from the old, "Hero must save damsel in distress" trope?
It just seems kinda fucked to me, ending umpteen lives in order to save one!

That was the best part of the game. Made you feel like a total bastard for killing these magnificent creatures for your own selfish reasons. (well, at the bidding of someone else)

I think that approach *can* work in games - for instance, I've played through The Last of Us twice, and both times I gladly murdered my way through an entire hospital's worth of Fireflies because the game had done a masterful job of making me care about Ellie, and even though Joel's actions were selfish to their core, I was right there with him.
In SotC, though... man, I dunno! There doesn't seem to be any real setup for the characters or their plight, so I don't really care about them (not enough to want those amazing beasts to be stabbed to death over it, anyway.)

I managed 100 hours of Monster Hunter 3 before feeing remotely guilty about hunting the monsters.
But once I did I couldn’t play any more of it. I even bounced off 4 and World very quickly for the same reason.

I had some cognitive dissonance about Monster Hunter: World as well (not helped by the fact that I was crap at the game, and found killing monsters to be easier than taking them alive!).
Climbing a Colossus and stabbing it repeatedly in its weak spots somehow seems worse, though - they're just, as Dfunked said, magnificent.

It just seems kinda fucked to me, ending umpteen lives in order to save one! It's absolutely the point of the game. With each kill the protagonist looks iller and iller, and as the have progresses the music tends toward becoming more sorrowful. The final colossus has an incredibly mournful score, not triumphant at all. It's actually an amazing, amazing piece of music.
There's some cutscenes at the end which give a bit more context, suggesting it's a forbidden ritual of sorts and that you are being consumed by an evil entity. So yeah, it's basically "are we the baddies - the game"

It’s fine. Well, it’s probably better with an actual controller. I just played with the basic touch controls, which are simplistic. It’s pretty much Space Harrier to music by someone doing their best Queen impression. There’s unlockables and various modes which bring back Panzer Dragoon and the Pandora’s Box, but game design-wise it’s fully Space Harrier.

Whoop. I fancy that. Even if the game is shite, aesthetically it's very much my jam.

A new Crash game released the other day to little fanfare. Multiplayer, live service, battle passes, it's all there. Looks like it's off to a rough start though, saw an article that said it has about 30 viewers total on Twitch. Not the best metric but very poor for a new title.
Just makes me wonder how no one saw this coming and it released anyway. I played the Beta and while there was some fun, it seemed pretty clear to everyone who played it that it wasn't going to keep much of an audience in its current state. Surely this would have occurred to the devs and the publisher too.
The Crash brand is hardly that strong anymore and 1 game mode in a paid title was never going to cut it. Crash fans weren't clamouring for a 4v4 wumpa collection game either. I don't understand its existence.

It seems that the Red Dead Redemption 1 may be coming back in some shape or form on current consoles including Switch and maybe PC. Maybe.

Yeah, sounds like a remaster is coming next month.
Please don't be another GTA Trilogy..

I’ll buy it on Switch, but otherwise it’ll take a lot to make me upgrade my 360 version, which I’m already a chunk of the way through, again, at the moment.

That’s how I’ve been playing it! And man, do I prefer it to the second one. As beautiful as that game is on a graphical level.
