Been hearing good things about Astlibra Revision recently. Haven't played it myself as I'd never heard of it until a couple weeks ago, but it looks really interesting!
Currently Steam only but it's apparently scheduled to release on Switch as well sometime in 2023.

Available now isn't it? Queued up the download via the Xbox app just now, anyway.

Oh, nice - definitely available now Had a quick spin on PS5. Was expecting it to have a lighter feel like NieR Automata (for obvious reasons), but feels slower and more considered. Nice treat for the weekend.

As Diablo shat itself last night I was able to download and have a quick blast on the Lies of P demo.
I'm...quite impressed tbh. It's one of the first soulslikes that actually have that same impactful combat and responsive controls. It looks great and more importantly feels great. I only gave it about 20-30 mins but I really like what I've played so far. It's firmly on my radar now.

Also, I think possibly the most exciting announcement to come out of either last night or the Sony showcase was Human Fall Flat 2. Me and the boy cannot wait.

It did run pretty decently even on my laptop though. It was holding 60fps even in open areas, of course on 720p with FSR2 on Quality and low settings.

In lieu of more bloodborne, I’m willing to take that quite frankly

Hey, "more Bloodborne" isn't exactly a bad thing... As long as it's not as blatant as Palworld, like holy shit they couldn't have made the Pokemon ripoffs sorry, influences in that thing more obvious if they tried

From what I can tell, Lies of P is to Bloodborne what Lords of the Fallen is to Souls... and honestly, I'm not bothered about either.
Remnant 2, on the other hand, kind of appeals to me.

For all From's influence, they haven't influenced people to be very original or creative

It’s games though innit. How many fps games went to limited weapon load outs and recharging health after halo. I don’t blame devs for going down this route. People like these games, and I’m one of them. Plenty of other games out there that are innovating, they don’t all have to. So long as they imitate well, then I’m fine with that.

I mean, yeah games recycle ideas all the time, but imo it becomes an issue when everyone copies the same game. If new games draw inspiration from a variety of other games that's cool, but if it's just one or two games that creep into everything, everything can feel uniform and stagnating. Especially if you're not a fan of the game/mechanics in question.

I didn't realize, but ACE Team have released "Clash: Artifacts of Chaos" some months ago. It's apparently supposed to be Zeno Clash 3. Or at least it takes place in the same world. They seem to have to switched to 3rd person.

Without further pushing my negative opinions of Darks Souls on here, I think they’re pretty simple games to emulate. Obviously where the series excels in it’s world building and narrative, but in terms of general map design and combat mechanics, it’s relatively simple to replicate. Now, how well that is replicated is another story altogether, but it’s not the most complicated template for a game.
Also, Dark Souls is a series that built the pillars of its fan base through social media. It’s grown through word of mouth, but also from streaming communities and I think this is what developers are trying to capture when they imitate Dark Souls. Just like with all the Gang Beasts, Stardew and Overcooked clones, they are more interested in social engagement , rather than pushing or developing the general design of these kinds of games.

I always just see it as 'We want to make a Dark Souls because it's popular.' And it's always just what if Dark Souls but science fiction or in space or steam punk, etc. They don't bring anything new or interesting. Most of them also copy the tone, story delivery, door opening animation
Nioh is a good example of a game inspired by Dark Souls but from people who actually had their own ideas and it even does some things much better than From
Remember that Mortal whatever it was game that decribed itself as an uncompromising hardcore action game? It's a bit much being pretentious when you're just copying someone else. Most of them come off as me too hacks and will be forgotten about

I find it ironic that Lords of the Fallen back then was shagged for being too similar to Dark Souls, but looking at it today, it at least made an effort to look different and add a couple ideas to the mix. Now that soulslikes have become commonplace, it seems many of them just carbon copy From's elements.
Like, I could tell for sure that Lies of P was going to be a BB clone fifteen seconds in, when I saw the door opening animation.

D.O.R.F.: Not too much info right now, but looks like a fairly typical old-school RTS. C&C probably, but the art style does also remind me quite a bit of KKND.
Edit:
Another one that has come up recently is Stygian Revery, yet another so-called "Boomer-Shooter".
"Stygian Revery is a first person shooter set in a dieselpunk universe where technology and magic combine in a grotesque future where mankind has to fight cosmic horrors and abominations in order to survive."
There is a pre-alpha available for download over here.

Surprised this didn't have it's own thread, but guess others aren't as interested in Balder's Gate 3. I would make a thread for it, but this bit of news probably doesn't massively warrant one. They've just launched a sort of ARG thing called Blood in Balder's Gate - bloodinbaldursgate.larian.com/It is a sort of murder mystery thing, where you vote each day for where to head next and which ever place gets the most votes will be the location for the next day. There is also a satchel you can go into, which is blank at the moment, so I expect there will be more to it than just voting for locations. Seems like it could be fun. Only a couple of hours before voting for the first day ends.

You can’t beat fighting what look like bacon knights to ambient Trent Reznor tracks in the first game.
