Thinking about it, RE1 would actually be quite nice I suppose just for the fact that you could then have a run through of 1-4 and they all look fucking lovely. Then ditch the rest up until 7 and then do 8. That would be six sexy RE games.

Yeah, that would be great too.

I think they'll do 1 and then call it quits. 5 and 6 aren't beloved at all really, and Dino Crisis, Onimusha never sold that well (to my knowledge).

If Capcom insist on another remake it should be Powerstone 1 & 2. Amazed this hasn't been done yet.

I personally don't think Dino Crisis, Onimusha or Powerstone would even sell enough for them to contemplate putting the resources there. I don't think Resi 1 would get a remake just because it would most likely be even shorter in game length than Resi 3 remake.

To be fair I don't want a full-blown remake of Powerstone - a HD version would more than suffice.

harrypalmer I was going to give The Quarry a go but sounds like one I'd be better off missing based on that. Are the Dark Pictures Anthology games any better?

I thought The Quarry was as good as Until Dawn and nails the teens in a horror vibe. Couple of bullshitty deaths later on only thing I can really criticise.

A few others on here have enjoyed the quarry. It's been on my list for a while, and I'll probably get stuck in after my second RE4 run. It's free if you've got a PS+ sub, so nothing to lose really.
Man of Medan is the only on of the dark pictures anthology I've played, and that one was fairly disappointing.

Hmm if you didn't like Man of Medan, you probably won't like Little Hope. House of Ashes is definitely my favourite of the Dark Pictures games by far (although I haven't played The Devil in Me yet.).
I might even say House of Ashes is a better game than the Quarry, however the Quarry was more entertaining.

Biggest issue I had with Little Hope was how predictable the story was.

Certain things really rubbed me the wrong way in The Quarry. But don't take my work for it, give it a go. The story is actually fairly decent. I just found literally everything else really annoying.

It's that lack of gameplay and just watching scenes that would probably grate me, but yeah maybe I should just give it a go

Finished Everything and it was really quite enjoyable. I hadn't spoiled myself all that much, so I was pleasantly surprised how much there is to interact with in a number of different ways. The game claims that I have only finished what it calls the tutorial after three hours and if you are a completionist there is a lot more to do, but I think I'm finished for now. Still, it's a nice sandbox, so who knows.

Unfortunately I'm just trying to play through some of the shorter games right now. Recent free games and the big sale have quickly outpaced any progress I might have made in recent months.

I appreciate the appeal of getting through some shorter things. I'm struggling to complete anything at the moment, myself. I've somehow gotten stuck in a quagmire of trying to get through the Mass Effect Trilogy, Elden Ring and finally... finally... 'getting' Dark Souls. I don't see the end in sight for any of these things, and any time I think about trying something new just to freshen things up, I end up feeling guilty that I'm not working on clearing the stuff already installed. This is no way to spend my already limited free time

A Plague Tale: Requiem
Played on Series S / Gamepass
Wow. What an ending. The first game in a long time (that’s not from a PlayStation first party studio) to really hit me in the feels. Narratively I thought this was excellent and took the story of the first game forward to much darker and unexpected places.
I also have to sing the praises of Charlotte McBurney who voices lead character Amicia for a truly superb performance. The game puts Amicia absolutely through the wringer, and yet even as she does some really morally questionable things, the actor grounds her, makes her real, and keeps you fully onside. I felt that pain, anger and love in her voice. She definitely deserves to be recognised for this.
Visually this was a really good looking game. I kind of wish I’d played it on more capable hardware and a bigger screen, but even on the humble S it looks great. The art is wonderful.
Gameplay is perhaps the only place where the cracks start to show - the over-exacting and occasionally long stealth sections and wonky combat served up more than the odd frustration. Whenever I found myself faced with a big open area filled with guards that I had to get to the other side of, I died a little inside, knowing that I’d have to push on through to get to the next good bit - a puzzle or story sequence or exploring section. Things have improved since Innocence, thanks in large part to the crossbow and a more varied arsenal, but fighting was still the weakest part of the game by some distance.
It was also perhaps a little over-long, with some chapters taking me upwards of an hour, especially in the early sections where the story was a touch slow to get going.
But overall, the characters and the tale told here win the day. It’s one that will stay in my memory for a good long time.
9/10 for the story and visuals… 7/10 for the gameplay… so a very good 8/10 overall. Definitely recommended.

I might try and play it again on easy just to go through the story. Played it for maybe two hours at launch and wanted a way to drown the boy.

Resident Evil 4 Remake: 11/10 I think user Dfunked has already said pretty much what I want to say although I do like the island part. This nails it for me as Capcom being one of the best developers around currently they've pretty much been on a roll since Monster Hunter World, even despite Resi 3 remake not being what it should which appears to be because they farmed out development to an external studio to focus on making Resi 4 internally and it definitely paid off. This game could have easily missed the mark but they seem to have staff who deeply understand what made the original so special and they've added in more setpieces and subtle changes to augment those already brilliant moments. I'm not sure where they'll go from here, perhaps they'll do Resi 5 although I think they'll have to change a lot of that especially in today's culturally sensitive era, I don't specifically mean the enemies being mainly black being the problem as it's set in a Saharan area but more of the whole the tribal/savagery implications later on. No sure about calling them one of the best developers as they are almost only churning out remakes. I enjoyed 2 remake, 3 was okay and I'm sure 4 is great but I'd much rather their skills be tasked with new games. I really enjoyed village and I'd like them to put the staff skills to creating new stuff. It's pretty boring remaking things all the time with modern tweaks to the gameplay.

Last Epoch (PC)
Second completion, this time on Hardcore running a stun+bleed druid that transforms into a Werebear. I had never heard of a Werebear before but it seems that it is also in Diablo IV, so I guess it's a staple of ARPGs? Very educational month for me.
I actually bombed out on several HC characters before making it to the end with the druid. A few of these were AFK messups, one cat-related, but I tried out a good range of characters. It's a cracking game. The endgame doesn't launch you into the campaign at a higher difficulty; rather you go into a bunch of dungeons (timelines) which have modifiers (enemy health, damage, greater rewards etc) and are linked by intermittent quests. Exploring that a bit now but it's not really grabbing me. Might have to start a new char....

This is no way to spend my already limited free time My backlog is suffering because even though I'm putting a lot of time in, I'm replaying games on higher difficulties and/or with different characters. Never had this before. Out of 10 completions this year, five are repeats.

They've only made 2 remakes internally, all their other games internally are not remakes, so that's not them almost only churning out remakes. Also making a remake actually takes work and there's no guarantee of making a great game, Resi 2 regardless of being a remake is one of the best games out there.

RE2 must have been a pretty hefty undertaking too, even for a remake. Changing the style of game is above and beyond the scope of most remakes.
With 4 at least they would've had a solid template of what it looks like as a proper 3D game to begin with.

Many, many years after buying it, I have finally completed The Last of Us. 8.5/10.
Great story that actually had you engaged (obviously, TV show and all that) but the controls were a little janky I found. Enjoyed it a lot. Still to do Left Behind but can at least start the TV show, which my wife will.be delighted with. And now I know where that takes place in the game, I'm not that fussed if I don't finish it before. Number 2 after Ragnarok I think.

Yep, Diablo 2's druid had Werebear and Werewolf forms and associated abilities. Never played any though as I usually prefer elemental spells and summons. Perhaps once I get Ressurected.
Edit: Oh yeah, and I finished Transmisisons: Element 120, a very short stand-alone HL2 mod. I didn't like it as much as Minerva: Metastasis, but it's still very well made, very nice atmosphere and visuals especially. The story is written on some of those writing tablets or whatever they are called, so nicely integrated into the environment. It also has a variation of the gravity gun, which allows for rocket jumping essentially. Very well put together in a lot of ways.

A Plague Tale Requiem. Killrbee pretty much covered my thoughts with his review a few pages up. If there's a 3rd they really need to innocent the gameplay, especially combat and stealth.
Can't help think how much better Naughty Dog would do everything.
