The Artful Escape (Series X)
Absolutely wonderful. Gorgeous graphics, amazing soundtrack, solid story. Loved every moment and can be completed in an afternoon.
Surprisingly, the Series X struggled with it at times. Slightly more a visual novel style game as I don't think you can fail but well worth a try. Especially if you like Rock Opera style fret wankery.
10/10

I've seen some middling reviews of this but mostly positive comments from normal players. Going on the wishlist.

Is it like Genesis Noir? I've got it installed on the S, just need to gather the willpower to actually start it.

Yeah, I enjoyed the Artful Escape. Can't remember what I rated it here (if I did), but it's absolutely worth a quick blast. Some of the parts where you could make your own tune were just wonderful. Part visual novel, part wonky platformer, part rhythm game... Not sure what else you could compare it to (I haven't played genesis noir)

51. Metro Exodus - PC - 2/5 (Enhanced Edition)
A bit of a curate's egg this one. Inconsistent pacing, a half-baked morality system and seemingly shoehorned-in 'big level' type design contrasts with a game that works well when it's pushing you forward through an area. Shooting's good, and there's a good sense of design and style in the world somewhat undermined by some dodgy accents.
Docked a mark for being the least stable game I've played in years; there was nearly a gigabyte of crash dump files in the game's save folder and at one point near the end I got a crash literally two minutes after loading in. Intensely frustrating, which in fairness was the most I ended up feeling during some of those boring, spaced-out big levels.

God of War 2018 PS4
Third time I’ve tried to get into this. The hype is so high that I keep feeling like I must be missing something but each time I try I just lose interest. Can’t really put my finger on why it doesn’t click for me.
Horizon: Zero Dawn PS4
Similarly to the above I’ve tried to get into this a few times and just don’t seem to be able to. It looks great, the setting and world are good and yet… meh.

Yeah, GoW is one that I've tried twice now and just never really felt the urge to continue after a certain point. It looks absolutely lovely, cleaving monsters in half never gets old and Norse mythology is legitimately interesting to me... It should be a sure thing, but meh...
Presume you meant recently abandoned?...

The Last Of Us 2
Finally finished after 66hrs of gaming goodness, just excellent throughout, graphics, story, pacing, gameplay, 10/10. I'll make more of an in-depth comment in the TLOU2 thread for those who may care. Easily the most enjoyable game I've payed in the last 5 years or so, reignited my love of gaming a bit.
Will replay the first one now.

Holy crap, 66 hours? Is it really that long, or did you just screw around for days?

Blimey... I'm guessing that's for the plat?
It was a 20ish hour run for me, but I didn't really hang around looking for collectibles and didn't even bother opening the trophy screen.

Yep, played through it over the summer and felt mostly the same. The production values are clearly astonishing and it has some good moments, but it never really fully clicked with me. I think most of that was down to the third-person camera angle - it just about works but never seemed ideal for this type of game.

God of War was great... I think. Although I don't think I found it great whilst playing. I think perhaps I convinced myself I liked it but I'm not honestly sure if I did or not. It looked amazing mind you.
I don't know.

I was fully expecting a 20-30hr play-through, I guess I just really enjoyed exploring everywhere and played with a cautious/stealthy approach generally which meant assessing whole areas and the enemies patrol routes before any combat etc, I’m not a trophy hunter per-se though I seem to have collected about 80% of everything and virtually upgraded every weapon on my a first run-through. Exploring everywhere underwater gave little reward disappointingly, I think only finding maybe two or three un-notable items. Shame they haven’t written a Strategy Game Guide book, I know you can find everything online now but I miss thumbing through those books.

Metroid Dread has been clocked. Absolutely loved it. There were times I thought my aging fingers wouldn't be fast enough to beat a boss, but once you click with them they're all doable. Loved the EMMIs. Loved the level design. Just top stuff.

Raji: ancient epic
its on gamepass and very much play it on GP then delete. Its ok game and quite short (does have some tricky bits where enemies are bit too much but soon you are over powered near the end) Combat is decent and the puzzles are easy.

It's a lovely world that you just never got any peace to wander around in.

And anyone who didn't get on with it on PS4 I'd suggest giving it a try on PS5, the 60fps is pretty transformative.

God of War was great fun at the time, rated it very highly. Not sure I would play it all again though, even with the 60fps mode.

This is the problem I had with God of War AND Last of Us 2.
I thoroughly enjoyed them both when I played them for the first time. Went back for a 2nd playthrough with the 60fps patch and ditched them both some 5-10 hours in.
The trouble with Sony's exclusives is that they focus so damn hard on story and character that gameplay actually takes a backseat. These games in essence are just interactive movies with some playable encounters inbetween. Its a great experience the 1st time, but becomes very tiresome on a 2nd playthrough from a gameplay perspective.
I wish Sony and their studios would take more risks. EVERY single one is a 3rd person, story driven game now and I am beginning to tire of them.

I bought a PS4 again last year for Last of Us 2 and the other exclusives. Managed 5 hours of Spiderman and 15 on Horizon. Haven't even touched God of War, Days Gone or Last of Us 2. I'm obviously a bit of a Nintendo fanboy or whatever, so these games just aren't targeted at me.
I'd play another Killzone though. If it were like Killzone 1 or 2.

The pacing wasn't great with the constant respawning and the only thing that was peaceful - Big Daddies and Little Sisters - you eventually had to get rid of. The only peaceful element that also led to some dynamic AI interactions.

Luigi's Mansion 3
Well that was a surprise. Looks stunning handheld on the new oled switch, fun characters, only 15 odd hours and a joy to play really.
A bit easy, but made a break from 50 hour open worlds or rpgs. More like this please.
8/10

Although it was quite a stressful game to play.

I did really enjoy HZD, but I wish these open world games would respect peoples time more. You could have had the exact same world, had the interesting side quests and dispensed with the collectathons and zeroed in a lot more to leave about 20 hours of gameplay. You would still have the lore, the characterisation but none of the metal flower bullshit.
I remember when COD 4 came out, the campaign was about 4-5 hours long, but the campaign was really enjoyable. A lot of people complained about the shortness, but I really enjoyed the brevity of it. I wish more games did the same.
An example would be a lot of netflix shows, the story could be told quite easily in 6-8 episodes, but they come out in 13 episodes and have 'flashback' episodes and shite. Just narrow it down, I don't have the time anymore.
