It's the worlds I like pissing about in in the newer AC games but after a while I get really tired of the actual gameplay and sack them off. The world is beautiful but good god the gameplay sucks balls.

That's kinda weird. For a minute I thought they were making an Assassin's Creed game inspired by Prince of Persia, then I realised it's just a skin.
I always imagined that Assassin's Creed games were like Prince of Persia games, but when I finally got to try one they're totally different. I'm not quite sure how they made climbing up old ledges feel totally different, but they managed it.

I fully suspect all that development on Skull and Bones has had a say on this. Too much time and money invested on a project that doesn't have much attention so best use it for something that does.

Remember they are legally required to release Skull and Bones because of the funding they got from the Singapore government and Ubisoft Singapore are apparently the main lead on this so it all makes sense with all that sunk cost fallacy.

Actually I remember on DF Direct I think John said something like Insomniac will have released 10 games since Skull and Bones was announced. That's fucking abysmal and depressing to have been working on this in some shape or form for that long with still nothing to show for.

I love Black Flag. Weirdly, the think I like the most is the 'Rogue Waves'. I always get excited when I see one. They had better keep them in and looking better than ever!

Black Flag was actually my first proper foray into AC after helping DadFE with some busywork like treasure hunting back in the Brotherhood days! In retrospect, I think it struck a good balance between the classic AC formula and the open world style of the latest three, in terms of exploration freedom without too much icon overload and the contrast between the open sea and the more tightly packed city areas. And, of course, the sea shanties  (🎶The worst old ship that ever did sail, Sailed out of Harwich on a windy day And we're waiting for the day, Waiting for the day, Waiting for the day That we get our pay🎶) JonFE I recall you wanted to play Black Flag back in the day but never got into it, maybe this will be the push you need? |

I was well over the format after Black Flag (which was excellent) and nothing I’ve seen since us made me think they’ve truly refreshed things. They’ve now become games I maaaaaybe download on Gamepass at some point, look at for half an hour and quickly delete.

According to recent playtests, it takes 24hrs to beat Mirage. Closer to 30hrs for a completionist run. Great news to me

That looks visually on par with Origins. Crazy to think how rapidly mobile tech has advanced.
Bit unrelated, but with Nintendo finally talking about their Switch successor, I hope that means they’ve decided to move away from Nvidia, whose Tegra development has been stagnant in their focus to push crazy $1000+ desktop GPUs. Apple and Qualcomm have long surpassed them on the mobile front.

Is it necessary though? They’re all ARM SoCs, so the technology shouldn’t be too different. It’s not like going from x86 to ARM or anything. Also the Switch didn’t use any nvidia specific tech like PhysX or DLSS.

Decided to cancel my disc preorder and wait for reviews. (embargo is midday on Weds)
I probably wouldn't be able to fit it in before Spidey 2 comes out anyway, so no harm in waiting.
It does look like exactly what I'm after from everything I've seen, though. I'll probably be swayed by a couple of good reviews.

I'll probably change my mind several times today and end up ordering it /edit Just spotted that Ubisoft+ is on Xbox now, so I might just dip into that for a month over the winter and play this + The Crew Motorfest. Or smash through Jedi Outcast in the next few days to clear my slate... |

Can play Mirage now on Xbox if you vacation to New Zealand.
I'd have bought this regardless, being a more old school AC fan, but a mate got it for me as a thank you for putting new brakes on his car, so quids in.
Anyways, about 3-4 missions in and it's already vastly more stealth focused than the last few entries in the series.
