Couldn't find a thread for AC games, apologies if I there is one already.
With the current Black Friday deals, a question about AC Valhalla editions – what are the Berserker packs and "A Set of Rune"? Are they worth the premium over the Gold Edition (which is the base game + season pass)?

If it's anything like previous games, it's superfluous tat. On Origins, for example, it meant that I started the game (or obtained very quickly) amazing armour and weapons. Which made the actual loot drops feel like shit and took the shine off the game somewhat. I also succumbed to Valhalla in the sales. £22 from Tesco. That'll do. Fuck the gold edition though. It's 60 hours just to finish the base game, there's no way I'm signing on for the extras too.

Not really. It's just extra gear and cosmetics, nothing you can't live without or won't replace fairly soon anyway. Depends on whether you like to have everything.

To give you an idea of how valuable the Berserker add on is, I had to look up what the content actually was there now. Not worth it.

Apparently I'm already 25hrs in with this one. Only "liberated" two shires so far, so barely scratched the surface. Couldn't believe how long the opening segment was actually, before getting to England at all. Aaaaand: I'm enjoying it. The last one I played (to absolute death) was AC Oranges which I thoroughly enjoyed but, being a soft reboot of the series, it had more than its fair share of rough edges. Valhalla seems to have smoothed the vast majority of them off, and built nicely on the formula. I skipped Odyssey, so doubtless there was forward progress there as well. After Fenyx, though, I couldn't face any more Greek shizzle hence jumping directly to Valhalla. The combat feels a little more involving than in Oranges, and it even matches some of the scenic views from that game. Hard to top the pyramids, obvs. I'm really liking the longboat as my personal taxi, too. I was a huge fan of Black Flag, but all the naval stuff since then felt throwaway. It's better, but differently applied, here. Apparently Odyssey did a good line in boat on boat action, too. Anyways, AC Valhalla. Worth the £22 I paid for it so far.

I generally enjoyed Valhalla but it goes on for too long. I was kinda glad to see the back of it in the end. But the initial first 30-40 hours? Decent stuff.the fact I actually completed it too is a win.
I quite like pathfinder mode, it removes a lot of the tat from the map screen and only appears when you semi stumble upon it. Makes its feel a bit more involving and less overwhelming. The side Quests where nice little vignettes too.
If they tried to make 30-40 hour games instead of 70-100 hour it be a lot more palatable. I think origins was about that and probably why it’s my favourite out of the three new ones. I might do some Dlc stuff at some point.

I think I ended Oranges with about 80hrs under my belt, including all the DLC. Feels like I'll only just barely be finished with the main campaign in Valhalla at that point. But hey, if I'm still enjoying it then so much the better. It's comfort gaming, and sometimes that's enough. I'll have the Halol Infinite campaign for contrast next week at least.

I still have the last part of the last DLC from Odyssey to complete (for nearly 2 years now), and I want to finish that first before starting Valhalla. But I couldn't be arsed so far...

Free crossover DLC stories for both Odyssey and Valhalla, and they are both out tomorrow, December 14th!

I'm quite enjoying cracking on with Odyssey every now and again. It's a lot less shit than Origins was.

Well, over 2 years since I last played Odyssey and straight into a boss fight against Cerberos. Not a great idea.

Started playing Valhalla after getting the gold version for 30 quid. And I'm enjoying it a lot. Will I get bored? Will have to see, but so far I can't complain.
Biggest issue is that I find it hard to tell exactly whose on my side and whose an enemy in busier melees, as I find the uniforms of different clans can be a bit samey at times.
I really enjoyed Origins, but couldn't get into Odyssey at all, played for a few hours and just didn't feel all that engaged. Might well go back to it at some point though.
It doesn't help that I quite like the history of the vikings and that era, and their mythology, but have no real opinion on Greek history.
And, being from the West Midlands, there's a strange humour in hearing place names like Tamworth in a big budget game.

I played Odyssey on PC and Valhalla on Xbox. Is that an issue? Do the games actually talk to each other or is it just a bit of story in Odyssey and then a bit more story in Valhalla?

It's just story. You aren't carrying progress over like a Mass Effect.

With all this talk of Dlc, think I’ll head back to Origins and give the hidden ones a go. Completed the main games but havn’t touched any of the Dlc yet.

Found Origins better on a second playthrough a few years later. Patches probably had something to do with it.
I have yet to play any of the 3 side-scrolling ones, though I acquired all of them through Games With Gold a few years ago. I suppose for completionisms' sake I should probably emulate that DS game they did as a prequel to the first one with Altaïr.

So I played through the new Odyssey DLC that dropped this week. Spoiler Free Version: Something happens at a certain point during it that brings the plot in line with something that was mentioned during the close of the main game, and when it does it leaves you at a huge disadvantage for a while in terms of combat ability, and forces you to play in a much more defensive, stealthy way from that point on. After the credits roll on it and you are back in free roam, this restriction is lifted though, should you wish to keep doing your thing. Also, stick around for an after credits scene.
Spoiler Version, Through End Of Main Game and All DLC: When the Spear Of Leonidas stops working, you lose access to every one of your combat abilities. This had to happen I guess, because when Layla meets Kassandra in Atlantis in the present day, she mentions that she gifted the spear to Herodotos after it lost its' power. When this happened, I suddenly only had access to basic bow fire, and light and heavy melee attacks. From that point on, I was forced to stealth my way through areas with large groups of enemies, lest they overrun me. I did like the after credit scene of Kassandra visiting the Library of Alexandria in Egypt as the Origins theme played, but given that she's now crossing over with Origins and Valhalla I have to admit I'm worried they might start retro-actively inserting scenes of her into the other protagnonists lives, even if they were unaware of her. Was she in the crowd watching Ezios' family get murdered? Was she in Lisbon when Shay Cormac triggered the great earthquake? Was she in the next box over in the theatre in London from Edward, Haytham and Jennifer Kenway? I hope not, that level of fan-service grates on me.

Question: does it make sense to play the DLC for Odyssey if you haven't started Valhalla yet, or should you play up to a certain pont in Valhalla first?

Can't see a reason not to play through the Odyssey DLC first, because they are all extremely good fun and move that games' plot on a bit. As for Valhalla, I have so far finished the main game but not done any of the DLC yet, so until I jump back into it, I presume the crossover mission will be available to me immediately. If I was starting a new game in Valhalla, I imagine I'd have to wait until a certain level/time before the crossover mission becomes available.
I'll probably do the Ireland and Paris expansions first, as I intend to play them in the order in which they were released.

I have "parked" Val maybe permanently, after 150+ hours and both season pass dlc's. I'm not really interested in the new mega dlc coming next year. I did however play Odyssey a bit yesterday (again having spent over 100+ hours with it) and it was so great to be back with Kass, my favourite Assassin and the stunning setting.
My main AC at the moment is a playthrough of Syndicate on PS4, completed on Xbox when it released. I love Syndicate and think it deserves more love...Govenor'

I'm just starting my journey with Kassandra. Just killed two thugs and have no clue what I'm doing. That's how all the best games begin. Now to loot the bodies.

I loved the opening island of Odyssey. Seems pretty big at first, then the map opens up to you.
Is it worth coming back just to play the new DLC? I finished off the game and the main DLC, then moved on to Valhalla and found it pretty jarring going from a superpowered demigod to someone who hurts themselves if they fall a couple of meters.
