I can’t get on with the new combat style. Last one I played was Black Flag.

Put me out of my misery with Valhalla: when does the main story end? Am I literally going to have to get it level 300 or whatever and clear every single county? Or does it stop sometime before that? Think I was probably around level 400 when I finished the main story, but had cleared all the areas, finished the Ireland DLC and quite a bit of other stuff by the time I got to the end. Some of the areas may be optional, but I think whether you do them has some impact on the final story. I did find the main story a bit of a slog at points, but broke it up by doing some of the side quests n stuff. Sorry, not much help.

Think I was probably around level 400 when I finished the main story I am level 160, with three counties still to clear, ranging from level 190, though 220, up to 250. Then there's what I presume is the endgame region at 350. It has taken me 50 hours to get to level 160. I've enjoyed it, but it's definitely starting to outstay its welcome and when Elden Ring arrives it's going to push Valhalla off a cliff. I just wanna mainline the story now, and then come back to the mopping up and grinding (which I kinda enjoy in these games!) later, at my leisure.

I'm enjoying Valhalla so far, but I'm very purposefully not just caning through it. I pretty much just jump on and play 1-3 hours a week, and I'm fine with that.
It helps that I'm a fan of Viking history, so it's fun to see those events based on real bits of history.
It was actually AC Revelations that got me interested in Vikings, as the great chain spanning the river in Constantinople interested me, and then reading about it discovered that the exiled King Harald allegedly escaped over; literally rocking his longship over the chain. Then I read about the Varangian guard, so I actually got into vikings more through their expeditions to the south and east than through their conquests in England.
Whilst they are obviously fantastical depictions, I have found a few interesting tit-bits of real history through these games.

I do want to add, I know a lot of people find Valhalla a bit dry and humourless, but i actually think Eivor has a very dry sense of humour that I really like, she's great (and it is definitely she, I'll have no truck with male Eivor. Male Odin is fine though).

I also have been purposefully not caning it. Since fucking November, mate. Almost three months. I'm ready to move on. I've laughed. I've cried. I've battled. I've cowered. I'm ready to punt the story into the sun.

I didn't think anyone would bite.
The Viking age is unusual because it has a very defined start date. The Viking age began in 793 whith the raid in Lindisfarne. The end date is a little more debated, but certainly from an English point of view 1066 is a often used, as it saw King Harald (the one who escaped from Constantinople) met his fate whilst combatting the Saxon king Harold's forces. (Harold of course would then be defeated by William the Conqueror. The fight against Harald, and the rushed march to engage William was doubtless a contributing factor to Harold's defeat).

King Cnut is often derided as somebody who attempted to prove that he was above God, by sitting on the shore and ordering the waves to stay back.
However most readings suggest that Cnut, a Christian, did this knowing he had no power, as he wished to show his sycophants that nobody, including himself, was above God.

I bet he was derided because of his name too... Those Vikings could be right meanies!

Hey all,
So, my PS5 has two profiles: mine (who’s region is set to Ireland) and my girlfriend’s (who’s region is set to Spain). AC Valhalla was purchased on my girlfriend’s Spanish account, which gave me access as both of our profiles are on the same PS5.
No problem.
However, can Dawn Of Ragnarok only be purchased through her Spanish account or can I purchase it from my Irish one?
Technically she owns Valhalla so is it her that needs to purchase it to give me access?
It might seem like a mute point, but I have some Irish PSN credit to use up and don’t want to find out I can’t play the DLC because I didn’t purchase the base game on my Irish account.

Is there any free DLC with which you could try out such a cross-account purchase?

Ten days on from my last post, another 15 hours on the Valhalla clock, STILL NO CLOSER TO THE END! :-D
Three territories left, one of which (if the pattern from Origins holds) is endgame, means I can't be far away. But I am 40 levels under what's recommended for the two I think aren't endgame. So I'm going around Ravensthorpe and mopping up the sidequests to get me in touching distance. Maybe within 20 skill levels of the 250 target would do me - right now even the grunt archers are taking more pummeling than my patience will endure.
I have enjoyed it a lot this week though - some strong side stories, pretty much unlocked all the skills I care about so I'm deadly in combat, some really really nice visuals and set pieces. Not a bad crescendo if the end really is just over the next hill.

Personally hope it's more like the older games, Unity even. Give me a hyper detailed world pushing consoles to their limits to get lost in. Then remove 99‰ of the filler and replace it with animation that blows your socks off and makes me feel I'm in control of an assassin.
I'd argue Assassins Creed Unity still looks better than any of the recent games and it came out in 2014.. Though I seem to remember it pretty much melting consoles and PC's at the time.

I’ve heard that they may be dropping all the extraneous gunk for this and going for a more linear experience like AssCreed 1. Which will be a very interesting pivot for Ubi if true.

It's been suggested that they'll re-use assets from Mirage to finally do a remaster of AC1.

Yeah, I was a day one defender of both the original Assassin's Creed and Unity. I do love Origins and Odyssey not Valhalla or Syndicate though, but I'd welcome a return to form for the series. Although I'd also say that my disdain for those two and Watch Dogs Legion had more to do with their direction and writing than the formats.

Seeing as it's probably going to be cross gen I doubt it's going to pushing consoles to the limit especially as this is a smaller game that was originally going to be dlc then expanded upon to pass the time to Assassin's Creed Infinity.

The Origins/Odyssey/Valhalla engine is no slouch, tbh.
Valhalla was ugly, but every element of that game was a 6/10 at best.
I loved Unity, but I'd honestly say Odyssey beats it in every regard aside from NPC density.
So if they ignored last gen, kept the detail of Odyssey and just got halfway closer to the NPC density of Unity, set in Acre or something? That'd be incredible.

I can forgive a lot about AC1, given that it was basically an untried prototype at the time in terms of setting and content. I'd never played anything like it.
I quite liked Altaïr as a character as well. Even though his character growth was limited to the scenes with Al Mualim and with his targets, I thought they handled the gradual peeling back of the layers of his understanding quite well.

I still like Valhalla, though it's far too long.
I am a Viking nerd though, if I didn't have that interest I'm not sure off it would click anywhere near as much. At the least though I disagree that it's ugly.
Still need to play Odyssey fully. It might well be a better game but I just don't have the same level of enthusiasm for Greek history and myths as in do for the Viking era.
Based on what over played though, I think Origins has been the best of the new games. When they dived deeper into the RPG elements it got too fiddly.
A simpler game would be good now though.

Smaller scale and more stealth focused has me interested again... thought I was forever done with Assassin's Creed.

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed all of them apart from Syndicate, which was just a bit toss.

I've been a big fan since AC1. Only ones I haven't played are Rogue and Syndicate (I do have Syndicate but can't seem to get into it). I've got the last three on the go and I dip into them every once in a while. They're too big to actually finish but I don't mind.
This one I'm actually looking forward to as well. I think my favourite out the lot is Unity, so a return to one big city really appeals to me.
