Fun fact: I went out with one of the Beckhams' household staff for a bit. She used to play Spider-Man 2 on the PS2 with Brooklyn and Romeo. (I'm sure there were other aspects of her job). Anyway, she had no complaints about them.
I agree that Dave's obsession with getting a knighthood is a bit cringe, though.

Even calling it a "war" kind of pisses me off, as (to my mind, at least) that implies a degree of aggression on both sides; what's actually happening, of course, is that Ukraine is defending itself from an unwarranted display of Russian aggression. Erm, most wars are an unwarranted act of aggression? By your definition we couldn't call either of the world wars wars. |

True enough, but it still feels to me as though Waters' use of "war" to describe this conflict is an attempt to make the initial aggression seem less one-sided than it really was.
By framing it as a war, rather than as a Russian invasion that inevitably provoked a defensive response from Ukraine, he gets to peddle his bullshit pro-Putin line with less of that pesky cognitive dissonance.

Ehh, Waters is old school, he's been wailing against every war for decades now, from a similar "war is bad it needs to end ASAP" standpoint each time. He's just happened to say the same thing he always has but about a war that people feel differently about. He was banging on about the Iraq war way before it was cool to hate on it.
I'm not sure the use of the word war is necessarily the biggest issue to focus on. Ukraine themselves call it a war, while Russia absolutely refuse to do so. Surely if a war supposed equality in the parties then Russia would have no problem using the term.

I think his letter is just the calling card of a coward. He’s decided there’s no way Ukraine can win so is pleading for them to just roll over so we can have cheaper energy bills again. It’s both spectacularly missing the point and being horrifically disrespectful to those who’ve died or been displaced.
