There's a massive difference between cyber security, which I am very much not qualified in, and investigation/forensics, which I am (in specific disciplines).
One pays a lot, the other doesn't.

Which is mental, when the chief inspector of the accident investigation unit I used to work for, who reported directly to the secretary of state for transport, earned less than that.
Saying that, there are comms people and business development/analyst types where I work now who earn that for doing essentially fuck all.

Yeah, I do cyber security with a specialism in cyber forensics. I work with other investigative teams who do actual investigation stuff. I don’t interview people or any of that stuff.

I miss my warrant card and being able to warn people they could get locked up for lying to me.

Well I've just received a job offer at another firm, before my notice period ends, giving me a month off before I start. Winning

I assume you've already checked it out but banks recruit for those investigation/forensics skills in a number of different departments.

I assume that's forensic accounting and the like, which, again, not me.
Obsolete data systems, I'm your guy.
Mass fatality on-site injury methodology, totes me.
Working out what MP is hiding money in the Caymans, nope.

I did see a police job the other day that actually would be a step up from what I earn now, and would only most of the time be dealing with nonces and online radicalisation, so I'm vaguely tempted.

I'm genuinely surprised you don't work in the film industry in some capacity

I may have had an equity card at some point, but that wasn't for me. I tried to get in at the BFI for a while but it pays like shit and I don't have archivist-level knowledge or skills, which is what a lot of they do is.

Plus, if you did you'd end up hating films and everything about the industry. Best to keep it as a passion and hobby imo.

Working out what MP is hiding money in the Caymans, nope. A mate from Uni is a director of a bank in the Caymans. Let me know if you need blackmail info to get an in to start you off.

Voluntary, perhaps.
Has anybody used a career coach? I have a couple of industry contacts I'll be reaching out to, but I'm intrigued as to what to look for.

4 1/2 years after being told my site is closing and I've finally got my 'youre at risk of redundancy' letter! Think I've got about 4 weeks left now until my last day. Probably time I dug out my CV.

Everything in place for "consultancy" or whatever they call it, proper redundancy payments and so forth? All the best in your chosen future field!

Sorry to hear that.
I'd definitely think about getting you CV done on their time. At least you should be eligible for some redundancy.

We've known about it for so long now that I'm kinda glad it's finally drawing to an end. I think even if the contract got extended again I'd be on the lookout for something else. My sister is a bit of a pro when it comes to CVs and she's very keen to give it the once over so it'll be winging its way to her just as soon as I've found it. I think it's been a good 8 years since I've looked at it.

Aye, first of 3 consultation meetings is next Monday. The contractor I work for is letting us pack up in 4 weeks time and then they're gonna continue paying me for another 7-8 weeks, which I wasn't expecting at all, and then I'll get my redundancy payout on top of that. We've just had a new facilities manager start on site in the last fortnight who seems a bit more proactive(the last one we had for two years never once spoke with any of us). I feel like the previous bloke would have just given the redundancy payment and that it, so I think I've done alright.

What does it mean to be "working outside IR35"?

Inside usually gets PAYE, pays normal tax etc. Outside works for their own limited company and is paid and taxed by them.
Outside, you don't normally have the same conditions as a permanent employee - sickness & holiday pay, pension and probably bonus, benefits etc.
Traditional contractor. Inside IR35, you will likely have some of those.

Ah. Considering a role, but the wording seems mealy-mouthed. It's a six-month contract, and I'm tempted as it could be a bridge to going full-time contractor.
Edit: Per your edit, is this scenario typically done by being 'askew Ltd', rather than acting as a sole trader?

It can be a bit of a minefield, especially if you don't have your own company or do taxes/accounts. Although, a lot of agents will offer to handle that for you, it's worth asking them to explain the whole thing and if they can't, then run 😁 www.qdoscontractor.com/ir35/what-is-inside-and-outside-ir35

Rather than being perceived to be working directly for the employeer, I think. It's a tax legislation thing.
