94% on Rotten Tomatoes at the moment. 40% audience score though - what's it done to upset the nerds? I watched the trailers, thought they were pretty average and moved on. Then a while later Youtube decided to start recommending me a bunch of alt-right 'fans' and I discovered that apparently everyone hated the trailers because there were no white guys in them. Something that had obviously never even registered with me. There seems to be a very large crossover between Star Wars fans and anti-woke alt-right types. Who of course already hate Disney because of a combination of culture wars, DeSantis and recent Disney+ stuff being a bit meh. Whereas I think we've all gotten a bit franchise fatigued with Marvel and Star Wars, they've put it down to being 'woke'. They never really got over Rey. Either way, I recommend being very careful when clicking on any videos critiquing The Acolyte etc.. as they might be legit, or they might fill your feed with dozens of misogynist assholes - which is a pain to reverse.

I like the basic concept, and it is mildly entertaining, but like nearly all recent Disney material the writing is awful.
Surely there must be some decent screenwriters out there?

I enjoyed the first two episodes, the first takes a bit of time to get going but picks up. One thing it shows is the Jedi Order are possibly the absolute worst police of the galaxy in fiction, they're fucking hopeless, no wonder Palpatine never got caught out earlier they're like Inspector Clouseau with laser swords but somehow worse. Quite impressed at how Leslye Headland has 4 of the first 5 sole credits at the end of the first episode, she's certainly the driving force behind this show, it's not as good as her co-creation of Russian Doll though. The biggest surprise was how little screen time Carrie-Anne Moss's character got, I'm sure we'll get a bunch of flashbacks to explain the motivation of the antagonist but killing her off so early on seemed an interesting choice.

I just can't be arsed to waste my precious time. Why couldn't they spend more time rolling out Andor? You've got me hooked. I want a second season. Come on!!

I enjoyed them both, not up there with the best, but entertaining enough and I'm looking forward to more.
It looks great and the score is wonderful, without being a constant drone.

I'd been paying no attention to this. Then I heard it annoyed a bunch of alt-right people so I think I'll give it a watch. Plus I'll watch anything with Carrie-Anne Moss.

The concept that in the melting pot of the galaxy, with many, many species mingling for generations, many people would be white is pretty far fetched.

Heh, same. Absolutely no interest in anything Star Wars these days, so this had flown under my radar. I might have to check it out thanks to the "Reeeeeeee! There's not enough white people in it!" crowd.

It's another black female lead in a Star Wars TV show, at least they had the decency of making her orange in the last one. Star Wokes nonsense!!!!11!!

I was trying to work out why I recognised her, and stopped myself from reaching for IMDB. Funny because I thought the first fight felt very Matrix (in a good way). Anyway the kids and I thought it was good fun. We smiled at the change of voices for the Neimoidians.

Hopefully it improves because after two episodes it isn't great. It's set in whatever era, separate from the films, but doesn't seem to matter that it is or make any use of that.

Considering the whole supposedly many thousands of years of scope and the propensity for planets with exactly 1 climate you would kinda expect some of them to be quite white. Hoth or somewhere say. As white skin or non-black skin is the adaptation that happened as people left Africa and ended up in cold places with no sunlight, like Scotland.

People living in space / less exposed to sunlight could also lead to a general reduction in melanin levels.

I suppose it depends what kind of exposure to space people have. I’d have assumed that outside the protective cover of an o-zone layer who’d need more melanin as you’d be exposed to more solar radiation and undiluted sunlight.
The trailers made it look like a 7/10 kind of series so I’m sure I’ll pick it up at some point. Although Love Island has started now so my tv time has been severely addressed.

I'm not sure star wars has put deep thought into the environmental effects on skin tone of their universe.
I mean, all the people on Tatooine and Jaku seem to be fair skinned.
Given that it's supposed to be a global melting pot of not only races but also species, I think white people have been pretty well represented so far. Though of course females don't count.

I’ve given up. This is the most boring pointless show I’ve tried watching for a while. I don’t care about anyone or anything happening and it’s so slow and boring. There’s not even anyone with charisma to help carry it.

Worse than Secret Invasion? Going by the critics, it's superior to that. Yet to start it myself but I've enjoyed all the D+ Star Wars to varying extents (some of them just as Saturday afternoon time killers, mind). I think some people overdo the hate/praise because it's Star Wars, but to each their own.

Worse than Secret Invasion? There’s more originality but that’s about it. I don’t see what the critics are liking about it. It’s good it’s in a new era and in theory gives them more freedom, they’re not doing anything good with that though. I’ve liked all the other Star Wars tv stuff to varying degrees but I can’t get through this one.

Ive watched the first two. It is really weird. The Junior Jedi is the 40 year old guy from Russian Doll, the old meditating Jedi is a 20 something year old guy with the WORST beard ever laughably glued to his face and everyone speaks in that contraction avoiding, faux Shakespearean Star Wars monotone except Girl Wolverine who just uses her normal voice which is unbelievably jarring.
Its just chock full of really careless nonsense that makes it feel like someone who doesn't really know what they are doing is in charge.
That said, I don't hate it. I'm glad its set in a different time period so we don't have the shadow of ANH or TFA looming over it. I did always want SW to tell more standalone stories. Its a bit lame and the story is stupid ('what if we took 'balance of the force' ridiculously literally?') but, yeah, its summat to watch. Its not good but its not agitating me like a lot of the other Star Wars stuff which I suppose is a win.

I enjoyed last nights episode, a self-contained flashback fleshing out the characters a bit - though I'm assuming what we saw was not really how everything transpired.
It's certainly not must-see TV, but it's enjoyable enough and I'm interested enough to see where it's going.
I do agree there are no standout characters though, and it's taking it's time to get going (which I'm fine with)

All the Star Wars stuff on D+ isn't bad - it's just inoffensively boring.
I've started Andor, Visions, Mandalorian, Obi-Wan and Ahsoka and ended up giving up before I'm even half way through.
The last bit of Star Wars content I can remember enjoying was The Last Jedi.
I think I'm done with Star Wars until there's a new film that comes after the godawful TROS.

Not a criticism specifically of this but one more in general, I hate flashbacks in programmes. They just make everything grind to a halt or try to rewrite things in a poor way. The worst ones are shows where you see the end then they flash back for nearly the entire programme to show the build up to that.
I think Godfather 2 is the only thing that I've ever liked it in.

I’m two episodes in and more than anything I’m just bored. It’s never good when a series has to explain its own dubious decisions.
So she’s a mechanic (they pronounce it differently, obviously) but because R2 droids exist they have to have someone ask what the point of her is, and the answer she gives is that “she’s more flexible and better company”.
It’s such a minor thing and yet I keep thinking back to it in disbelief that that was the best they could do.

Agreed. The Ms Marvel show ground to a halt with their flashback episode*, and there was another one around the same time that did the same thing.
*The actual Partition time period was interesting, or would have been if Dr Who hadn't just done the same thing, but it was a bunch of characters I didn't care about.
I'd heard that Ep3 was really good, which was why I asked how many episodes. But I guess that was the flashback episode?

More broadly, I guess that if you look across networks, most TV shows are bad/ok/average, with only 10% or so falling into the v.good/great category. Which is why networks cancel a bunch of their shows each year after a single season.
We tend to focus on the ones that are in the good/great category though, as those are the ones that get all the hype. (Breaking Bad, Succession, etc..) But for each of those, there are a bunch of ones we probably don't even hear about. Few people watch them, and even if they do they don't really talk about them.
The problem Disney+ has is that almost all their shows are part of 2/3 big beloved franchises. (Star Wars, Marvel, etc..)
And if shows that are part of big beloved franchises are in the bad/ok/average category then people hear about it, or still watch them. And complain.
I'd guess Disney+'s ratio of good to bad shows probably isn't that far off the average for networks. But people expect every Marvel/SW thing to be great, which is kinda impossible, and the failures or averageness is much more noticeable.
