I think it's time for me to be honest with myself. After being a lifelong Star Wars fan, I'm bored of it all now, other than the original trilogy. There's too much of it and not enough quality or scope. It's just the same themes over and over and over, designed by committee, with no creative flair or character. I did enjoy Andor but it is such a shame that so much money has been spent on very mediocre series. Can someone, incredibly wealthy, for the sake of humanity, make an Iain M. Banks film/series before I die.

There's nothing in the trailer that really does show it's hundreds of years before the prequels, I bet most people watching it don't even realise. I didn’t until I read this thread. Although I’m not sure directing all their subscribers here would be a viable marketing strategy.

To be fair I’m not sure that there’s anything in High Republic that really makes it that distinguishable from Phantom Menace era anyway. It’s not like it’s going back thousands of years to Old Republic times.

I don't really see the appeal of Star Wars without the Jedi.
Without them we end up with boring slogs like Rogue One, trade agreements and Andor.

Rogue one and Andor are the best two star wars things for 30 years...

The Bad Batch, after the very start, is Jedi free too and that's pretty damn groovy.

I kind of assume, based on the old EU and KOTOR content, that Star Wars adheres to the same rough rule high fantasy fiction does where the prevalence of magic negates the need for rapid technological progress. Plus once you’ve cracked faster than light travel and have laser guns how much more advanced are you really going to get?

It's clearly obvious games were not included else at least TIE Fighter would have been in the list.

If it helps, TIE Fighter is right on the border being released 30 years ago this summer.

There's nothing in the trailer that really does show it's hundreds of years before the prequels, I bet most people watching it don't even realise. I don't need to turn in my geek card then? I guess the same could be said for KotOR. Jedi, Lightsabers, Blasters, Fashion etc.. were basically the same as the movies, other than maybe a few things with Mandalorian armor. But it feels like for a TV Show or Movie they could have put in a few things to more clearly differentiate it and give it a slightly unique style. I guess the prequels tried to do that and had limited success, so maybe they just didn't bother. Maybe it's in the show but not the trailer, but you'd think it'd be something they'd want to emphasize in the trailer. [edit:] Actually, maybe I do need to turn in my geek card. When is the High Republic supposed to be anyway? I assumed it was hundreds or thousands of years ago. Is it just 30 years before Ep1 or something?

I think the High Republic is supposed to be a couple of hundred years before TPM but I don't think it really matters does it? It's set in The Past but to all intents and purposes it just lets you play with the iconography of the Republic and the Jedi as seen in the prequels.
Speaking of which, I have come to the conclusion that it's the Jedi stuff in general, and the more granular, weird lore established by the prequels in particular, that sets Star Wars apart from other sci-fi for me. I know that there have been good non-Jedi stories, but I can get broadly the same stuff from the likes of Star Trek, Guardians, Firefly, etc. But only Star Wars has the Jedi and all the associated bonkers batshit bollocks that Lucas dreamed up. That's what I love to see, and that's what I'm really looking forward to in this show.

I said pretty much the same thing to a friend a few months ago. I was all for genre pieces, in the Star Wars universe, like the heist film that was Solo. But there has to be a hint of 5he force, and/or the Empire. Otherwise it turns into a generic Sci fi show.
The High Republic is set a few centuries before TPM, so it has a certain amount of freedom to be its own thing. But there are problems, in so much as that there are a lot of comics and novels set in this period. I have only read the comic books, but the standard isn’t that high.

That's looks great. I've only just watched Ahsoka and I've seen Rebels, so I'm certainly going to give that a watch

Getting the writer who did the prison arc in Andor seems like a pretty good move for the 25,000 BBY film.
Going to be a while before that goes into production though so plenty of time for Disney to can it.

If they'd just recast her character with Rachael Ancheril in the first place, I don't think anyone would have noticed.

Somehow, amid all the other May 4th stuff, I missed a second trailer for The Acolyte:

First two episodes are up. I quite enjoyed it, though the pace is slow. The fight scenes are really well done. It feels like it hasn’t explained enough yet though.

Does it actually do anything with its different time period setting? Cos the trailer made it look like it was effectively the same as the prequels.
Given the hate the trailers received from some quarters, I assume youtube is collapsing right now under the weight of negative responses.

It isn’t vastly different, but it would be hard to say. The technology seems mostly the same, but it seems like a smaller aspect of the galaxy is being featured. There are times when the settings are reminiscent of Andor. I don’t want to say too much, for fear of spoilers.

Umm, seems pretty naff so far - the cheap sets and the stilted acting is reminiscent of a CBBC drama, and as for the writing... Scene: "My twin sister who I thought was dead... is alive! Maybe she's behind the murder."
Next scene: "Her twin sister who we thought was dead... Maybe she's still alive and behind the murder?"
Next scene: "Hey, my twin sister who we thought was dead... is alive! I think she's behind the murder."
FFS!

94% on Rotten Tomatoes at the moment.
40% audience score though - what's it done to upset the nerds?

Crouching Tiger Hidden Jedi:Teen Edition based on the first two eps.
As for the 100+ comments on the pirate site I watched it where it's descended into full on war, yeah. It's the "young woke brigade celebrating diversity" vs "whites are going extinct" vs "where's mah white heroes and villians" vs "fuck Disney pedo-corp" madness. Over the latest bloat of a milked franchise where I just thought the script and pacing were weaker than Ashoka...Asoka..? Anyone ?
Wake me up when Andor S2 appears.
