With me, stuff still shrink wrapped are from sales or offers or gifts mostly, but I'm time poor. I often intend to open them the day I get them and play, I can't really play till evening, so something usually crops up. Then it's easy for that to turn into days, or weeks or months and then something else shiny comes along. Yeah, much the same here. I'll get to them at some point...

Metroid Dread and Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze on the to play pile.
Witcher 3, I've got to finish Heart of Stone and then play Blood and Wine.
Currently I'm alternating between Mario Odyssey and Mario Tennis on the N64 Switch app whenever the other one starts to frustrate me.
On the to go pile is Hotwheels Unleashed and Bioshock Collection. Neither I'll go back to.

I am trying to curb that impulse to get it because its on offer, and only buy the stuff I want to play straight away, which is kind of working because I don't have anything really recent in my pile of shame 😅 I’m a real sucker for a PSN Store sale and there are so many must play titles that I just have far too little time to complete. I’m down to maybe an hour and a half max on a good day. Usually more like an hour, which is nowt for most bigger titles now.

People like buying things and collecting things. I think when you buy something and don't play it straight away, the excitement wears off pretty quick and even if you've never touched it, it feels old next to exciting new games (to buy and not play)

Hyper Light Drifter has been sitting on my PS4 and PS5 hard drives for many months. I do intend to play it at some point, just as soon as I'm finished playing a couple of little games called FFXIV Online and the entire Yakuza series.

I only have a 256Gb SSD, which is enough for about *one* game with a few recent releases. I just had to install Android Studio, which takes an insane amount of space for what it is. So I had to finally uninstall Oxenfree which had been sitting there taunting me for ages.
My old laptop had a half finished Witcher 1 that I always meant to go back to.. so it stayed on there until I got a new laptop. Actually, I think it's still on there, as I always meant to transfer it to the new one... but never had enough space.

I couldn’t get on with how you could interrupt the dialog in Oxenfree. I get what they were trying to do but it just didn’t work for me.

Yeah it would’ve been good if it actually let the dialogue play out

It's very slow and I think perhaps a bit too heavy on the reading with little other gameplay, but in the end I still ended up enjoying it.
Myself I have had Vangers installed unplayed for way too long now. I'm a bit scared of it.

And Marvels Avengers. Don't think I've even managed to finish the prologue yet. Also, A Plague Tale has been sat at the end of chapter 4 or 5 for god knows how long.

I put about 5 hours into Far Cry 6 (PS5) before coming to the conclusion: - It looks pretty shit for a PS5 game
- There is no originality in the game whatsoever, it's just Far Cry 5 with a shabby new skin
- I'm totally done with annual iterations of games. COD, FIFA, Battlefield can all do one
So I'm not playing it, in fact traded it in to the pube exchange for Guardians of the Galaxy.

A case in point: I recently bought Monster Boy because it was 75% off and has been in my wish list for years. I told myself “if I don’t buy it when it’s this cheap I may as well just delete it from my list”.
Now that I’ve bought it I’m not sure it’ll ever actually get played…

I've tried and tried to get into Hollow Knight, but I think I'm going to call it. I don't like hard games.

Shadowrun: Hong-Kong. Was enjoying this, but just fell off and then didn't pick it up again. I have Dragonfall installed and about 70% done, but I had to stop it because I got major RSI and had to basically stop all mouse-related gaming all year. Shame, as I was enjoying it and it's actually one of the few RPGs that I *could* go back to. But Alien Isolation I can play with a pad, so there's no excuse on that one! I love the ShadowRun games, even though I find the combat a little bit dull. I abandoned Dragonfall for years after failing a longish mission and forgetting to save but went back to it during lockdown last year and finished it. I went through a phase of playing RPGs I'd previously abandoned but tried to deliberately pick the weirdest/funniest/evil/cynical/petty character choices rather than my usual "good" one. It started with enabling an accidental genocide in a Mass Effect 3 due to not paying attention during a cutscene, but also made Geralt act like a bit of a selfish prick in the Witcher 3 and made a really weird character in Disco Elysium. But ShadowRun was probably my favourite, there's a chance to do something that's both unbelievably stupid and pretty evil at the same time which ends the game without having to fight the final boss. I was finding the combat heavy final missions so dull that I decided to go along with it just to finish the game a bit quicker, but it ended up being pretty funny so didn't regret it.

These days I always assume the sale will come back around. On switch there are certain games on sale almost as often as not

RPGs are usually the hardest for me to go back to... after a certain amount of time you forget all the details of what you were working towards, what all the side quests were, how the mechanics work, etc... and the sheer amount of it makes it more and more daunting as the pause goes on. I do really want to finish The Witcher 1, but I think if I went back to it now I'd be absolutely lost. Shadowrun Dragonfall is a much more lean and self contained version of an RPG, which is something I really appreciate these days. As such, it's not actually that daunting to go back to.. it's more the RSI/Mouse issue. I guess it might be playable with a pad as it got ported to other systems, but I can't imagine it's very slick. The writing is excellent. The combat isn't dull exactly, it's quite good at first, but it doesn't really give you enough new skills/tactics as the game progresses. A lot of the upgrades are along the lines of "+2 damage" and don't really change how you play at all. Combine that with some *very long* combat encounters and it can get rather repetitive. That said, sending in a Stimmed up Glory to eviscerate everyone with her claws never really gets old, even if I use it in every single battle. It could really do with some late game upgrades that allow you to combo attacks or chain them for massive damage, to allow you to burn through the grunts at a higher pace.

For me, Resident Evil 7 is on top of my pile. I try but it just shits me up and I’m at the time of my life where something vaguely scary can happen and I need to go and wipe my bum. As disgraced comic Louis C.K says, it’s like a bag full of swept leaves that hasn’t been tied properly.
I’ve also got Alien Isolation but that’s just a fucking write off at this stage.

I'm surprised how many people, me included, have Alien Isolation sitting there. I didn't think it'd generally be that kind of game.

I think it's mainly because it has such a good reputation, it makes people want to play. But something new comes along and it pushes it by the wayside once again.
It's in my backlog as well 👀
