Do you have a game that is installed on your hard drive* and you don't want to uninstall it, but you somehow never quite manage to play?
For me it's Alien Isolation, which I installed at the beginning of the year, started playing, thought was ok, meant to go back to... and just haven't. I know if I uninstall it it'll get forgotten on the backlog, and I kinda need the hard drive space, but I keep telling myself I'll play it tonight... and I never do.
*consoles have those too now, right?
[edit] Not just the ones on your backlog, but the ones you actually have installed but aren't playing, but don't uninstall.

I've played the opening sections to hundreds of games, thought, 'this is pretty cool' promising to go back to it. Then life happens and actually finding the time to have a proper go at a game just never seems to happen.
These days, I like the idea of gaming more than being an actual gamer. It doesn't help when so many games don't respect your time either.

Loads and loads. There's quite a few things I've never played but which were a "bargain", so I had to get them.
Worst offender is probably... And my brains just gone on holiday. Something with Luigi.
Ah yes, Luigi's Mansion.

Oh god, so many of these on the Xbox
Return of the Obra Dinn - installed for months if not years, after I played the first hour and thought it was a neat idea deserving of a full evening at some point
What Remains of Edith Finch - bought after playing and loving Gone Home, never seems to be the right time to start it
XCom 2 - waited ages for a sale, played the first few missions, didn't quite click, now I can't uninstall it or I wasted my money
That's just a few of the ones I keep on the hard drive, either because they're small or I'm stubborn. If space wasn't an issue there would be dozens more

Mafia 3, Ori and the Will of the Wisps, Stellaris, Doom: Eternal, Prey
A whole host of others that I've forgotten.

This is basically my default state. Have loads installed, start them and then get distracted/bored. Especially the more indie titles from PS+

On my X, among all the games I want to go back to, like Elite, are a completely unplayed collection -
RDR2 Civ6 Stellaris AC Origins AC Odyssey
About a million hours of gameplay, roughly. And that's not including Game Pass. I think I'm saving them up, so there will never be a time I've got nothing to play. Whether I actually ever get round to them is questionable. As is the decision to buy a memory card to store unplayed games on.

Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon
Made it halfway through the game but for the life of me I can't be arsed to finish it. I adore its retroness, but just like with the NES Castlevanias to me it's more about legacy than actually having fun. Whenever I try to give it another go, I quickly think I could have actual fun instead and replay Ritual of the Night for the umpteenth time.
Sonic Mania
Sonic is cool and I love how well Sonic Mania does it. But there's always the realisation in the back of my head that I don't actually enjoy Sonic games as much as I want to. But I just can't bring myself to uninstall it.
Outer Wilds: Echo of the Eye
I absolutely loved the base game, I preordered the DLC but still haven't played more than a single cycle after reaching the station. It looks like there's no space flight involved which was such a central part of the main game to me, and I always think I need to be in the right mood to really enjoy it. Sadly, I never seem to be in that mood.

Across various Xbox and PS4,3 I would say around 200, that I will definitely get around to playing before/hopefully before I fall off my perch.

I only buy what I am ready to play, or nearly ready to play. Therefore I never really have a backlog and I only have about 3 unplayed games which I will get round to very soon.
I always take the view that if you aren’t ready to play a game for a while, then you can hold off the purchase as it will be much cheaper down the line. Never understood those that buy games day 1 and then don’t play them for months after when the game can be had much cheaper.

It's probably a different thread for a different time, but I think there's a particular type of game that's much more annoying/shameful to have failed to complete.
Like, I don't care that I bought all of the Crysis games and all of the Metro games (except Exodus) and fell off them. But Fez is a game I desperately wanted to like but didn't, and The Witness I absolutely loved but hit a wall. Maybe it's the games that make you feel smart for working them out - or dim if you give up on them.

Loads more I can't recall.

Prey - I keep saying I'll give it another shot when I'm in the mood for it, but that never happens.
The Vanishing of Ethan Carter - I love a good walking sim if I'm in the right mood, but again I've had this one installed since launch and just never got around to it.
Destiny 2 - guess I'll go back to my main squeeze for the anniversary event, but this is very much a play other stuff month.

Somewhere there's dormant Steam and Xbox account with my name on it. Like a shameful treasure chest, long abandoned.
I prefer to, or rather not think about my PlayStation pile of shame nowadays.

My current shame includes:
Alien Isolation Bloodborne Disco Elysium Dishonored 2 Hades Obra Dinn
As games I intend to play or replay. But thanks to Rogueyone the PS4 Pro has a massive amount of storage and almost my entire library is installed at moment.

I’ve got about 10 PS4 games still in the wrapper including Alien Isolation and The Witcher 3
Not sure what’s going to tip me over the edge to ever play them

I've had Armed and Dangerous installed on the Xbox One, and now on the Series S, since it was made available for free on Gold.
I keep telling myself that I will play it eventually. I know it was made by the MDK devs so that's all the incentive I need. Just need to actually remember about it.
... right now I'm busy with clearing Stranger's Wrath off the backlog (it's been there for ten years), maybe I'll start it when I'm done.

I have a whole bunch. My backlog is stupid huge, but I do try to play through things. I generally try to keep my list of installed games to about a single unscrollable list in Steam, and work through those. There are a few on there right now that have sat guiltily for a long time:
Dark Souls. I've mentioned this on RPS, but I have played through Undead Burg multiple times and then just stopped. Over and over. Its still on the list because I keep looking at it and thinking, one day I'll break through.
Valkyria Chronicles 4. Played a couple of hours and then stopped and haven't come back to it for what may be a year?
Shadowrun: Hong-Kong. Was enjoying this, but just fell off and then didn't pick it up again.
Horizon Zero Dawn. Waiting for a time to focus on this. Played through a chunk on PS4 but was struggling to maintain interest vs the sluggish loading times I was experiencing. Bought on PC and seems to run okay but its a big game and never seem to be in the mood.

Shadowrun: Hong-Kong. Was enjoying this, but just fell off and then didn't pick it up again. I have Dragonfall installed and about 70% done, but I had to stop it because I got major RSI and had to basically stop all mouse-related gaming all year. Shame, as I was enjoying it and it's actually one of the few RPGs that I *could* go back to. But Alien Isolation I can play with a pad, so there's no excuse on that one!

Ahh a thread about my retirement pile!
- Gears 5 - Persona 5 - RDR2 - Nier Automata - Far Cry 5 (lots of '5's) - Prey - Hyrule Warriors: AoC - Rise of the Tomb Raider - Shadow of the Tomb Raider - Luigis Mansion 3 - Super Mario Odyssey - Watch dogs 2 - Jedi fallen order
And that's the only ones I can remember...

But do you still have them installed, waiting to go back to them 'someday'? If so, you have a lot more SSD space than me!

MS Flight sim.
Storing a load of indie games for a future unlikely to happen isn't really an issue, but storing a massive space hog in a genre I have no interest in 'just in case' is a bit silly.

I have Dyson Sphere Project installed still, completed it but dont want to uninstall it as it's an early release that they're still developing for.
I also have the most recent metro game that I installed quite a while ago after picking it up for peanuts in an EGS sale but still not played it and if I uninstall it I'll probably not reinstall.
Ghost Recon Wildlands is still installed, got like 60% through it and I'm loathe to uninstall as I know I'll never chuck it back on.
Prey is half done
Red dead is about 75% done
Nothing! Nothing else is being played as PoE is all I'm playing at the moment. Fucking thing is all consuming yet I love it.

Oh whoops, I missed the bit about them being installed. So: - GTA5 - Kena Bridge of Spirits - Days Gone - God of War - Immortals Fenyx Rising - Ratchet and Clank

The big ones are Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis and Monster Hunter World. And I mean the big ones literally, as they're some huge file sizes. But yeah, I have lots installed but untouched.

I too don't understand buying a game and not even opening it... Surely you buy it because you want to play it at that point?
I have a few I've played through but they sit on my switch hard drive just on case I go back those are Smash, BOTW, Sayonara Wild Hearts and Links Awakening. There's also a few I've put time into over the years but not completed that are sitting there. Resident Evil 4 springs to mind

With me, stuff still shrink wrapped are from sales or offers or gifts mostly, but I'm time poor.
I often intend to open them the day I get them and play, I can't really play till evening, so something usually crops up.
Then it's easy for that to turn into days, or weeks or months and then something else shiny comes along.
I am trying to curb that impulse to get it because its on offer, and only buy the stuff I want to play straight away, which is kind of working because I don't have anything really recent in my pile of shame 😅
