Looking back on my old post and I missed off sonic youth dirty and royal trux thank you. So I’m up to 12 now. 5 is impossible to be fair, I’ve probably got around 40 that I can’t really choose between dependent on mood.

Can I choose the Guardians of the Galaxy awesome mix? Cos that includes a bunch of different stuff in one. Maybe that's cheating.

As Sui said, I too don’t really listen to music much these days but, if I was to pick five albums forever, it would be the first five Iron Maiden albums.

The Watcher, Forgot About Dre, What's the Difference, Bang Bang, Murder Ink; the album is loaded with great tracks

I thought it’d be more difficult to narrow it down, but the older I get the more I seem to listen to a select few albums rather than new stuff. Comfort in the known I guess.
Pearl Jam-Ten Alice in Chains-Unplugged Guns n Roses-Appetite for Destruction Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds-Ghosteen The Holy Bible-Manic Street Preachers
Honourable mentions to Angel Dust by Faith No More, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and When the Kite String Pops by Acid Bath.

These are my comfort albums, that always end up really stacked in playlists. Not particularly what I would rate as 'the best'. I initially had Aquarium by Aqua in here before I replaced it for context P.S. Give a listen to the funk flex album, it's goooood.

Killers
Powerslave Seventh Son of a Seventh Son Brave New World A Matter of Life and Death

I was looking back at this and it just says "Five albums you can't live without", not "pick 5 albums and that's the only ones you can ever have".
So... five classics I would really miss...
David Bowie - The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars Neil Young - Live Rust/Rust Never Sleeps Minutemen - Double Nickels on the Dime Nina Simone - Little Girl Blue The Band - The Band
Five with a country thing:
Steve Earle - Copperhead Road Buffalo Springfield - Buffalo Springfield Again Gene Clark - No Other Townes Van Zandt - High, Low and In Between The Handsome Family - Twilight

That one, Hootenanny, Pleased to Meet Me, Tim... all great records. And super influential, too. So many of my fave 90s guitar records, not to mention the Pixies, Nirvana and all that came after.

Doolittle - Pixies Every track is perfection, still listen to it all the time, and it was my favourite album from when I first heard it aged 13 until the release of..
In Heaven - Dick Stusso A masterpiece. Elements of country, soul, glam, rock, and rhythm and blues.
Pacer - The Amps It's essentially the 3rd Breeders album with a line-up change (but Jim still on drums) and it's amazing. I'm a bit obsessed with Kim Deal and have a playlist which contains everything she's touched (and a best of playlist, and an essential) and if that was an album it would be on this list as it get's played all the time.
(get's harder from here, the above are set at least for now, the others subject to change)
Transformer - Lou Reed My favourite David Bowie album.
Meat is Murder - The Smiths Morrisey becoming a raging twat has dampened my love for them a little, but it's still an amazing listen. Barbarism Begins at Home is outstanding and every track is a winner (with possible exception of the title track).
The London Sessions - Howlin' Wolf (and others) Howlin' Wolf playing with (amongst others) Charlie Watts, Steve Winwood, Bill Wyman, Eric Claption, and Ringo Starr. Blues crackling with energy.
Shit, that's six, but I can't pick what to take out. Bubbling underneath and likely to jump into the last 3 (or 2) spots anytime:
In Case You Didn't Feel Like Showing Up (live) - Ministry
Energy - Operation Ivy
Morrison Hotel - The Doors
Relatives In Descent - Protomartyr
Timeless - Goldie
The Speed of Sound - Various Artists (RAM Records)
Straight Outta Compton - N.W.A.
Critical Beatdown - Ultramagnetic MC's
As The World Burns - Arsonists
Paul's Boutique, Check Your Head, and Ill Communication - Beastie Boys
Live in Europe - Otis Redding
A Briefcase Full Of Blues - Blues Brothers
Hard Again - Muddy Waters
and many more, it's too hard
edited to prevent elstoof having an aneurism

There are the all time classic albums of my youth that I listened to for a decade or two and wouldn't want to live without... though I don't actually listen to them that often these days, or there are the ones I listen to most often, even if I might not put them on my all time greats list.
Classics of my youth: Nirvana - Nevermind Radiohead - Ok Computer Red Hot Chili Peppers - Blood Sugar Sex Magic Rage Against the Machine - Rage Against the Machine Led Zeppelin - Remasters (or really pick any album) (Honorable mention for Smashing Pumpkins - Melancholy and the infinite sadness)
But the ones I actually return to again and again: PJ Harvey - Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea Lana Del Ray - Born to Die Muse - (absolution is the best, but..) Black Holes and Revelations Rage Against the Machine - Rage Against the Machine (yeah, this one is just awesome) Bright Eyes - I'm wide awake it's morning.
(Honorable mentions to Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Fever to tell and a bunch of movie soundtracks)
though there's definitely a bunch of others that have just slipped my mind at the current moment.
