My dad is the same so I hit him where he lives and gave him a lecture on patriotism. If you love this country so much, why are you so desperate for everything great about it, the institutions we created that are the envy of the world and a gold standard against which other services are measured, to be torn down?
Doesnt seem very patriotic or 'conserving' jack shit if you want to get rid of what actually makes this country great.
(he accused me of hating britain and wanting to tear it down, so I let him have it. IM THE REAL PATRIOT HERE, FATHER!)

I overheard a few middle-aged ladies in our small Devon town essentially saying that "it's not a surprise as they're all paedos at the BBC". Sweeping generalisation much Karen?
It just fucks me off how salacious this whole thing is, when at most it's a moral issue and has no bearing on the general fucking public.

Sadly the Beeb have given people an open goal when it comes to how they have dealt with abusers.

It is very depressing that no one has learned a thing since the passing of Caroline Flack.

It'll all be fine when they put who I like in charge and kick out those I dont like (who are prob just as bad)

Which brings us full circle with the 'everyone I dont like is a groomer' discourse we are being treated to at the moment.

Loved the BBC reporting last night.
"Our next guest is Rodger Ex-BBC with some thoughts on what happens next, where the investigation will be looking and what the allegations are about - Over to you Rodger"
"Actually, can I start by saying you're all a bunch of cunts. You're all being incredibly irresponsible, there is no evidence of any wrongdoing on his part and yet you're already crucifying him. How about you stop with the over the top, unnecessary and bullying coverage and let the BBC conclude their investigation without you whipping the public up into a hate mob. Cunts."
"Erm thanks Rodger. So Jeff, what will the victims be going through right now?"

It is very depressing that no one has learned a thing since the passing of Caroline Flack. I think #bekind is more hashtag “don’t say mean things to me even when I’m being a massive dickhead because that would hurt me and make you a bad person for trying to make me think about what I’ve done”

They say romance is dead. Not if you’re Kevin. Just your career.

It seems like the Fishwife-in-chief is something of a sex pervert himself I've only just read that whole thread. What the fuck is wrong with the entertainment industry?

By default, it attracts people with severe personality issues and then makes them 100x worse when their wealth/status means their behaviour is constantly validated.

The Sun finally got around to referencing that scene in The Thick Of It: Spinners And Losers where Malcolm mentions the potentially "libellous Huw Edwards rumour", and in their strive for accuracy they cocked it up and reported it as being from 2005 when in fact it was 2007, while describing the character as neither Malcom Tucker or Peter Capaldi's charcter, but simply as "a man".
Surprised they didn't go with "WHAT DID IANNUCCI KNOW, TELL US NOW"

So far every instance I've seen of abusive messages have come as a result of the person threatening to go public about having a relationship with huw. I don't think it's unreasonable to respond in an angry way to what is effectively a threat or blackmail.

Pretty sure cash has been their main motivation throughout. They probably thought the Beeb would offer them a settlement initially, but the complaints team did the old one ring and an email trick. Then they went to The Sun. Now they're pedaling their wares on the piss soaked streets of Talk TV.

I've been mostly avoiding this story as much as I can because it just annoys me, but there was a really interesting interview on the News Agents with an ex Sun editor. It focused a lot on the culture of the Sun and it's agenda, portraying it as a cult seeking to do the bidding of the "boss". Not surprising as such but it sounds way worse than I would have imagined and direct from the horse's mouth.
Also some interesting insights in to how a libel case may come about and be resolved.

One of the nastier things about this is the divestment of filth into other businesses. Having TalkTV pay the parents so The Sun can say 'we paid nothing, they were acting out of genuine concern' is groteque and should be the first line on any report into media consolidation.

I sometimes dip into TalkTV and its a weird channel. So many recognisable tv faces and newsreaders who used to be at BBC or ITN taking the most contrived devil’s advocate positions on real non-stories.
And a handful of nutters and grifters on the late night phone-in shows who appear at actually believe what they’re saying.
Sunday at 10 or 11 has a show called something like Unexplained Mysteries where an daft old bloke they found in the corner of the pub does interviews and takes calls on conspiracy theories. Only most aren’t conspiracy theories, they’re perfectly normal things that everyone involved is too thick to google the answer for.
It all has quite a professional quality to its delivery though. Its not like GB News where someone is having a Partridge style meltdown and has built a news desk in their garage after getting sacked from the proper telly.

Hey, leave Howard Hughes (yes, really) alone. The man is a saint (he also does a very long running podcast and often drops talkTV and his talkradio content onto it).

That's an unfortunate name for someone into conspiracy theories...
Or perhaps that's what they want you to think?
How deep does this rabbit hole go?
